I saw Pat on 3 August in Seoul. What a show! I brought my video camera and started videotaping from about 25 feet in front of the stage (directly out in front of Pat). It made for good sound, but not for really great closeups. After 4-5 songs I ended up moving to the front of the stage right in front of Pat and just hung on the edge of the stage to steady the camera and I filmed the rest of the show from there. I got some awesome closeups (nothing but fingers and fretboard). The only downside was that you couldn't hear the vocals very well (most of the sound was coming from Pat's amp). But I mainly went to see Pat, so that didn't bother me too much. Pat was a real gentlemen - before and after the show. Anyone who wanted a picture with him, autograph, guitar pick... whatever - all they had to do was ask and Pat took care of it. It wasn't a well advertised event. I found out about it by accident. Only about 250 showed up. It didn't matter though. The band rocked like it was 5,000. After the last song listed on the setlist, Pat had already gone back stage and taken the tremolo bar off of his guitar and was putting it away... but the crowd was yelling so loud for another song that the band came back out and finished the show with Stevie Wonders' "Superstition." Pat was still screwing the tremolo bar back on the guitar when the song started. Great show and great time had by all. Randy |

Richard-I don't know this for sure, but 1981 was when Pat co-headlined with Rainbow (Blackmore, Joe Lynn Turner). I believe I read that they alternated opening for each other. The following year Pat and Black Pearl opened for Aerosmith (minus Perry and Whitford). That was my first PT show when I was the ripe old age of 15. Again, I don't know this for sure, but that would be my best uneducated PT guess. |

Blur, Oh, yes...the Black Pearl tour... my first exposure to PTB as well. Yes, PTB did open for the newly formed Aerosmith absent of Perry and Whitford. Perry went off to do the Joe Perry Project for which I had tickets to see his show in the bay area and was cancelled within the last couple days leading up to the show. PTB was quite professional during that performance(Cow Palace) and more into playing rhythym at that point - after having read what some wrote here about PT's off-the-stage problems I was surprised being that I found the PT and the band to be rather finely tuned. I will live to regret not having seen Blackmore and PT during the same performance...ouchh! that hurts! I passed up opportunities to see Blackmore in concert once...one of my absolute favorite guitarists of all time. No one can play with the passion that Blackmore played. To add further insult to injury, did PTB with the Thrall and the rest ever play the west coast along with Rainbow during the Dio years?? Anyone know. |

Hello Hammerheads, I happen to know that Pat, Mars and Sandy Gennaro played Boston in 1981 at the opheium theatre, They were the headliners, and I don't beleive they co- headlined, although I know they did with the B.O.C. a couple of years later. This show was recorded for a re-broadcast and if I recall there was quite a bit of feedback on that recording and only 5 songs were broadcast. Hooked,Love Can't be right, crash n burn, life in london, and can't think of the last one. anyway if this helps cheers, ptb is the best. Dee |

Shiva - Don't think PTB with the Thrall lineup ever toured with Rainbow. To my knowledge, the only one was the Radioactive tour together. The Heat in the Street/Crash & Burn lineup played an amazing Day on the Green in Oakland in 1978 that I went to: AC/DC Van Halen Pat Travers Foreigner Aerosmith They just don't make concerts like THAT any more! Pat Thrall had just joined the band at that point. Pat mentions this show on the Solo Live In Henderson CD. They then opened for Rush at Winterland, which I didn't get to see, but I did see them again at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, with Cheap Trick. Then at Oakland Stadium, again with Cheap Trick (where Pat debuted Snortin' Whiskey, from his "forthcoming" album!) The Crash & Burn tour played at the Oakland Auditorium (now Henry J Kaiser), which I got to see, and the following night at the Warfield, which was broadcast live on the radio. Unfortunately, they were WAY better the previous night in Oakland; they must've stayed up partying too late! ;-) Those are the only Bay Area shows with that lineup that I remember, but there could have been others. Cheers! Steve Z |

December 15, 1982. Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC. About 12,000-13,000 in attendance. Rose Tattoo went on first. YAWN! Then PT and Black Pearl hit the stage and were extremely tight! They had the crowd rocking through the entire set. Pat threw his guitar about 20 feet up in the air at the end of the show (of course he caught it). I really liked Sandy Gennaro. Aerosmith was horrible. Rougly half the crowd had left by the time they came out for their first encore. I departed as well but I didn't care. I had come to see Pat Travers and I was not disappointed. I have seen him roughly 15 times since then playing for as little as 50 people and as many as 5,000. He's rocked every time and he's a legend who sounds as good as ever after all these years. Thank God for Pat Travers! |

Steve- Ah yes those day on the greens. I will have to ask my sister about that one, I was a little too young to attend that one - goes to prove you that life is about timing. What an unreal squadron of bands! Those were the days. IMO those were pretty much the best of times for rock the best bands were just about all peeking, in-style, etc. Music for music's sake not as entertainment ala dancing female pinballs with choreographed moves on stage. Do you remember the concert?? Hee! Hee! I mean being that those concerts were pretty much party havens probably too many folks got wasted and those concerts/bands were wasted on them as well. The Warfield...the first concert I went to there was Malmsteen when he was 21-22, at that time he did not yet go solo (Alcatrazz). Malmsteen with backing band composed of the previous opening band and 50 minutes of straight soloing-instrumental work. |

I saw Pat in Sasebo, Japan on August 4. The show was a part of American Festival and there were over 30.000 people. The set list was almost the same with the Tokyo show, but obviously the performance was better. One of the highlights was that Pat, Glenn Hughes and Charlie Morgan (from Elton John Band) did play "Mistreated" at dusk. It reminded me of the legendary Deep Purple performance at California Jam 1974. Pat sometimes says that "See you in a big time". It was a suitable place for Pat play loud. There were TV cameras at the festival and apparently, the show will be televised by a local TV station soon. I must get the copy somehow. The VCR Japan tour was really successful for Pat and many people were impressed with the performance. I hope to see the PTB in Japan soon! |

The Day on the Green show, yeah, I DO have some very fond memories of that day! (I was only 15, so didn't do too much partying yet!) I had just gotten turned on to PT a few months before that, from a radio broadcast of his show in San Jose back in Feb of that year (I still have a crappy copy of that, too). That show was a trio, with Pat, Mars & Tommy. I subsequently got Makin' Magic & Puttin' It Straight, and was really pumped to see him. Pat Thrall's appearance was a surprise, but I do remember how well he sounded with the band. That's really cool that Pat still remembers that day as a highlight of his long career! As for the rest of the day, Van Halen was awesome, AC/DC was great, Foreigner was kinda dull, and Aerosmith was, well, Aerosmith in the 70's! Sloppy as all hell, but still cool! Gotta say, they're such an amazing live band today, compared to back then! Cheers! Steve Z |

Hi PT fans. Have been a big fan since hearing Makin Magic. That album & Heat in The Street are a couple of absolute favorites. Had almost given up on listening to these songs since my old albums are very used up. Was thrilled when I found both CD's on Ebay. PT has a truly powerful "Sonic" sound shared only w/Hendrix & SRV. Solos are clearly thought out & the interplay between the bass & drums, especially on "Hooked on Music" & "Need Love" are amazing. It is amazing & hard to understand why you NEVER hear this great musician on the radio. Glad I found this great website. Greg |

Yo Greg, Thanks for checking into PT central, the home of the true Hammerheads. Yes, It is amazing & hard to understand why you NEVER hear PT on the radio. After all, PT is considered, by many, to be one of the all time greatest guitar slingers to ever tear-up the concert stage. I guess "classic rock radio" is too busy playing the same ten songs over and over that they have been playing for the last twenty years. That's why we say...PT ROXX!! |

Hé Hookie! Look what PTB is doing with us! Totally upsetting our private lives...and we love it, haha! Well, PTB took a special place in our hearts, and there is nothing you can do about it. So, how great another guitarplayer can be, we will alway's put Pat on a higher place, cause he can 'make magic'. And he keeps on ROCKIN'!! And that's the most important! Some guy's on the Rick Derringer site said that RD was better than Pat...hahaha.....so we wanted to respond on that, and yes, no one disagreed after that one. Anyway, have fun you all at the gigs, we're not yealous, ahum.....Cindy, can you make it?? And, no PTB on our radiostations. But we have the cd's....Ginbel rules. Now we are going to order tickets for Gary Moore and ZZ-top. They're gonna be here for one gig. Hope it's not getting sold out. greetingzzzzzz from the Dutchies. |

PT Fans- I thought I would post a review of the Backbeat concert. Perhaps, I will post at a later time The Boardwalk review or maybe Scott, Jo, Darren, and Sandy could post one so it will come from someone different.? Set list: -Hooked on Music -Life in London -Just Enough Money -Crash and Burn The above songs to the best of my memory are in sequence - correct me on this Darren, Sandy, Scott, and Jo if I am incorrect. Songs below vary except where noted. -I LA LA LA Love You -The Pain -Fortunate Son* - CCR (featuring Eric on vocals) -Whipping Post -Medley Makin' Magic, Rock N' Roll Susie, Gettin' Betta -Snortin' Whiskey -Stevie -Boom Boom Out Go the Lights (Last song) ENCORE: Guitar Solo (volume swells with long delay), Born Under A Bad Sign *The Boardwalk concert only. The Backbeat Concert. Opening bands: Ones and Zeros - pretty good for what they were, "new rock" style band (think a tinge of double vocal grunge effect like Alice in Chains and bottom heavy. Someone else commented that they sounded a little like Creed. Did not personally care for the style of music. Tones were not focused, very blurry.) Wishbox - same band that opened for PT at the Boardwalk when he did the solo acoustic set. A Pop-rock influenced band. They were definately better this time than when they opened for PT doing his solo acuostic set. PTB came on around 10:10pm (PST) and left the stage around 11:45pm. PTB began playing Hooked On Music and nearly half-way through PT broke two strings on his custom shop Gibson Les Paul. PT said, "The evil demons have got the worst of me.." PTB left the stage. After another 7-10 minutes, PTB came back on stage and started off playing Hooked On Music as if it was their first time on the stage that evening. The set above was played through with some improvisation throughout to accomodate technical glitches ( the battery went dead on one of his BOSS pedals, PT broke another string towards the end of Born Under A Bad Sign - this resulted in a shortened version and solo for the song. The band managed to play-it-off such that hardly anyone would take notice unless they attended The Boardwalk performance the next evening where PT literally whails an exteneded solo at the end of Born Under A Bad Sign - some amazing and awesome riffs were pulled off! The bass drum for Eric practically went rolling away from him - drummer for Wishbox (one of the opening bands, and his drum set) helped as roadie. Both evenings, PT's guitar could not seem to stay in tune very well.) PT mentioned about half-way through the set, "This could be our best concert to date...Could this be our best concert? Could it be?" looking over to Rick, both with big grins across their face. While it was difficult to "keep the vibe" going due to technical errors the band did a very professional job of rockin' the crowd. The band was well-received by the audience, if not stunned, at the intense jamming throughout the set. I personally met someone at my table who was 50+ who had not seen PT before, though a rock/blues fan and years of waitressing experience in the bar business. I asked her halfway through the set what she thought, "Awesome!!" Towards the beginning of the set, PT told the PA person, "Bring it up baby...Keep going. I want you to bring it up until you think it is too loud and then a little more." That brought on an intense cheer and roar from the crowd. The sound system at The Backbeat was second to none for a dance-nightclub hangout. Great clarity and definition (large JBL speakers). The Canadian die-hard PTB rock fans commented on how clear and articulate the vocals were up-front just a couple feet from PT. PT's guitar came across with good definition even in the low-end cutting through the mix very well. The acoustics were better than The Boardwalk and the venue was more "open" making it easier to move about. When one thinks of a dance-nightclub one wonders if such a venue might not be loud enough for the PTB to play...it was LOUD! Even I experienced that ringing in the ears sensation. As always, the band stayed after to sign shirts, etc. |

I forgot. There was a drum and bass solo. The order was of little importance since the bass solo came at an unintended time to get around a techinical glitch that occured. The band sounded absolutely great both evenings!

For those who couldn't show, The Boardwalk was hammered. Mrs. Gac and I were right in front of PT, and I'm here to tell you , that dude can PLAY. First, we showed up a little early and listened to the sound check. After that, PT came out and said hello to us and I got a nice picture of him next to our car. Inside, with the exception of a few who could not hold their booze, all went well. The PTB played most of my favorites and one I wasn't expecting, Elijah. He said he wrote it for his son, that really meant somehing to us.The drum solo by Eric was outstanding and Rick had a great solo himself. Forunate Son was one of my all-time favorites in the CCR stage of my life, and I'm glad to see it being played by my all-time favorite guitar player.PTB, you boys can definetly rock. We hope to se ya'all again soon, and looking forward to another studio album Thanks-Mr&Mrs. Supergac |

Howdy! Wow GREAT TIME!!!! It was really freakin' cool meeting all of you Hammerheads at the three Northen California shows! What a GREAT bunch of people you PT fans are! I got home yesterday afternoon and I'm still beat....I don't know how the band does it... MY PC crashed last weekend so any updates will have to wait until I restore my hard drive (sometime early this week) Best show??? IMHO The Boardwalk. Hanford was extremely cool and Pat only broke ONE string... Santa Clara was so so, too many equipment problems... But I'd have to say the band was absolutely smokin' in Sacramento and The Boardwalk was probably my favorite show this time round.... Hey kudo's to Wishbox!!!! With a special thanks to Mike for lettin' Pat use your guitar two nights in a row! - btw - I'll send your pictures today or tomorrow!! You guys ROCK!!! Oh and last but NOT least THANKS to Tony L. and Show West Entertainment!

Hi all! Great show at the Boardwalk. That place isn't known for great acoustics (I've played there myself), but Pat had the same fat sound I remember from the "Big Shots" show a few years back. Wishbox wasn't a bad band and had a good bass player...but I could have done without the Rush tribute. It clashed badly with my memory of seeing them in '76. Oh well, gotta get someone to open. Wish I could have met some of you, although I understand I was standing next to a couple of you. I kept wondering if "Rock N Roll Suzie" was there, that song had a lot of memories playing it myself in clubs in years past. Rock on! |

Well...after a couple of technical difficulties I ordered the Holland import of Makin' Magic. I'm really looking forward to getting that one. My vinyl is in pretty good shape as I taped it early on...but a crisp new CD? How cool is that? Plus I like the idea of the proceeds going directly to Pat. It's just too bad that Polydor never did any real marketing for him...Pat Travers should have been a household name after Makin' Magic. Just my thoughts... SJ |

Hammerhead update...PT sighted along the Erie Canal near Buffalo on Saturday, opening for Rick Derringer. PT had a problem string again, and blew out two marshall heads. The first one he replaced, the second one he just put with. Dealt with the problems professionally, though. Despite these set backs he and the boys rocked out. Here is the set as we recall, not necessarily in order: Hooked on Music Life in London The Pain Just enough money Elijah Whipping post Fortunate Son (Frieght Train sings) Boom Boom Snortin' Whiskey Born Under A Bad Sign Crash & Burn Both Rick and Eric had solos as well Once again he skipped the medly in Buffalo!!! I met PT briefly afterwards. He seemed exhausted. He puts a lot of energy into to his playing. He was kind enough to sign my sling. I had broke my ring finger earlier that day and figured I might as well have something to show for the day! We then met Rick and Eric, who also were kind enough to sign the sling. Got to chat with Rick a little while, who shed some light on the equipment problem. Seems that the amps are provided for them at the venue, and it always a question as to the quality. Pat came up to Rick while we were there to say good night. He suddenly turns and walks over to my wife, Ann, and gives her a kiss and a hug! Rick and Eric continue to impress me. Rick is phenominal on bass. I play bass as well and try to follow his moves, but he's too quick! Eric rightly deserves the nickname "Frieght Train". As fast as he moves, you can always see hang time, a slight delay, as he goes to hit something. Equally impressive are his vocals. Not only did he do a fine job on "Fortunate Son", he also did a fantastic job doing back-up vocals for Derringer. Looking forward to next time! |

I met Dave LaRue this last weekend in Orlando at the at the Satriani / Dream Theater show at the House of Blues. That is why it crossed my mind. I know he has played with Steve Morse for years and have a few CDs with him playing on them. He is a fantastic bass player for sure. He told me he lives in Ocala, FL and is on the new John Petrucci solo CD coming out later this year. He seemed pretty nice. He signed an autograph for me and gave me a pick with his name on it. I kept telling myself when I saw him that it had to be him so I went up and asked. Bingo! Very cool!! -Drummz- |

Hi all, I'm new to the site, but a long time fan of Pat Travers. I cut my teeth on Go For What You Know, and purchased several of Pat's early releases during the early '80's. I had some friends I went to school with back then that were playin' in a power trio covering Pat, Robin Trower, Jimi, Mahogany Rush, and the like. They exposed me to Pat's mastery of the guitar. Well, last Saturday night me & a buddy drove for a couple of hours to see the Derringer/Travers show in North Tonawanda, NY. What a great show! What a great guitarist! I dug out my old tapes, and though they sound a bit "muddy", I've been listenin' to nuthin' but PT the whole week. Next time he's in upstate NY for a show I'll be there! (I especially appreciated it when Pat played w/ his teeth for a second, exposing the well-worn back of his guitar. Only those who become one with the instrument have that tell- tale wear mark on their axe!) I appreciate such a great website dedicated to Pat. Does he ever check it out? |

It's almost 2pm on Saturday and I just woke up after recovering from last nights party at the Metal Factory club in Ft. Lauderdale with the Rex Rogers band and with PT. The doors opened at the club about 10pm and the first band, Philth, went onstage about 45 minutes later and played some standard fare for about an hour or so. Next PT and the RR band came out and set up there gear. While Pat was setting up people, including myself, were going up to him and asking him for autographs, taking pictures, and trying to shake his hand. Pat would would stop every few minutes and oblige the fans, and always with a smile. When the stage was set, Pat slipped backstage, and left the 3 piece RR band alone onstage. The RR band started playing to the small crowd, about 100~125 people in the club. There was almost no publicity about the gig. Rex is a superb guitarist, but ya gotta expect that if yer going ta hang with PT! The crowd reacted to the RR band with only mild enthusiasm. After about a dozen songs, Rex called for PT. Pat came out and there was an instant crowd surge towards the stage. Pat greeted the crowd and went into the Allman Bros. "Wake up Momma" which really started the crowd up! Next on the list was "Life in London". During the song a great looking young lady jumped onstage and began to dance next to Pat. I expected Pat to wave the bouncers over to her, but instead he turned to her and smiled and started to dance with her, all the while playing, and not missing a note! DA PARTY WAS ON!!! This went on for about an hour or so and at one time there were 4 girls up there with him and rubbing against him. At one point when the girls were rubbing against him, he leaned forward and grinned and said into the mic "I`VE GOTTA GREAT JOB!!!". During the whole onstge party, Pat and the RR band were still paying close attention to the music! When the party came to an end, Pat did stick around for a few minutes and signed more autographs, hugged some ladies, posed for pics, and shook a bunch of hands. I asked him if the PTB gig was still on for next weekend in Daytona and he smiled and replied "Sure is!". I`m there! When I got home this morning, I glanced at the clock and it read 4:22. I`m on my way now to go get the film from last night processed and to buy more film for next weekend gig! |

Hey PTB Stalker, Thanks for the review. Wake up Momma? No kidding, I never heard them play that one before. That is just the thing. Remember when many of the people here were discussing changes in the set list. In retrospect, after seeing them perform during the No Cal shows, I can wholeheartedly say that PTB fans have nothing to be concerned about. When you hear how tight and focused the band is you will know that considering other songs to be placed in the set list just becomes pointless - the songs and list are that sweet, and well performed. All thoughts of playing My Life is On the Line or whatever your preference may be, evaporates. Ginbel - My payment for that DVD has already been sent. Alright...where is the clipart for Rich rocks or someone giving another a nuggie?? |

Hey Tonemonster, Just ta let ya know, Pat was playing with the Rex Rogers band. Rick and Eric had the night off. Oh by the way, when the music stopped, the dancing girls were gone. The dancing girls were just an on stage thing. Next weekend will be with Eric & Rick. I don`t think I wanna see Eric and Rick dancing with Pat! |
