Sorry the concert page hasn't been updated the last couple of weeks. They are moving the servers that hold the page and have been having problem after problem getting it back up. The page is currently up BUT I still can get in to update.
Ive been told I will be able to update later in the week. Sorry for the inconvence.
Just got in from seeing one hell of a concert. It was called A Walk Down Abbey Road - A Tribute To The Beatles. The performers played some of there songs the first half of the show and played nothing but Beatle songs the second half. The band was Alan Parsons, Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross, Mark Farner (Grand Funk) and Jack Bruce (Cream). WOW!!!!! They rocked the place for 3 hours.
Hope to see you all New Years Eve. Have a meeting with the Fiesta Bowl next week to finish up all the loose ends. Can't wait for Pat to rock in 2003.
Take Care All

Snorkels,

Thanks for supplying the info.

Ed,

Would it be useful or possible to also, at least in some cases, include who PT might be playing along with as the case with the concert tonight in Detroit? That should be a good one. Talk about classic flashbacks.

There is a Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando also. I E-mailed Rick twice in the past couple of days trying figure out who`s on first , but so far no reply. I imagine Eric & Rick are pretty busy, being that they play in 3 bands (PTB, Derringer, 7th fold). I`ll try calling them this evening, but I`ll probably only get a answering kumpewtr. I read on the Derringer site that the gig on the 14th of this month in New York ain`t gonna happen. PT was supposed to play at da same gig. Hey Ginbel, could you give PT a jiggle and see whats what? Man, I hope they hurry up and get the carburators re-adjusted on the gigs server soon!

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife

Thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'ld gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea

From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.
There's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say...

That I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'ld gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

Greetings one and all. By no means am I a flag waver. I just thought posting these lyrics might help us all remember how lucky we are (those of us in the U.S.) to live here in the U.S.A. The greatest country in the world !!! As we go about our celebrating today, please take a moment to remember those who paid the ultimate price so we can live freely. Have a safe and happy 4th !!!

A request. Over the past couple months, I have seen some tremendous pics of PT and the band - Cindy Burton, John Howe, The Snorkels, etc. I am looking for the ultimate PT pic with just PT (Eric and Rick play some mean bass and drums, do not get me wrong) for him to sign at one of the upcoming No. Cal shows coming up in August. I am looking for a high quality 8x11 or larger pic of PT playing live preferably, though I will consider studio promo shots as well, that I will do justice to by framing nicely and hanging up on my guitar wall of fame with the likes of Randy Rhoads, Paul Gilbert, Montrose, Malmsteen, Schenker, and others. If you have a pic which you think would fit my needs please direct it my way and we will gladly work out the $ details fiftymkii@earthlink.net

Just sitting here at work, listening to the Lookin' Up CD. Had a thought, considering some of the different "phases" of PT's recording career, what are people's favorites? I've got this:

Polydor Years (1st album through Hot Shot)
Favorites: Puttin it Straight, Go For What You Know, Black Pearl

Blues Bureau Years: (Blues Tracks though Don't Feed the Alligators)
Favorites: Just A Touch, Lookin' Up!

There is also the "Jerry Riggs Years", which includes School of Hard Knocks and Boom Boom Live (and all the different reissues). This era had some awesome live shows that I got to see!

Cheers all!

Hello all,

If anyone wants to see PTB playing in BB Kings Blues Club and Grill in New York, vote on BB's site on PT, maybe he'll get there once...if it's interesting, of course. Just discovered the site, cause of a great Dutch blues-guitarplayer, Julian Sas (gettin' really popular in Holland), but for the love of PTB, voted on Pat! Not for any use for us, naaah, what the heck. The more PTB play's, the better.

When I asked Chuck Ruff (EX Edger Winter Group)about a lost recording with Pat, Chuck himself kindly replied to me on Edger Winter's board as follows.

Dear Tony,

This is a true story!!!

I played for a brief time with Pat and Mars in late 1980. Right after I was (quit/fired) from the so called "sammy hagar band". The next day John Bonham died......... SO!!! I thought I'd tear myself up and go on down .......... Really weren't no use in me hangin' around ,now, any how.......

We recorded an "S" load of live in the studio stuff like "Politician" and "Whiter shade of pale"...

I wonder what ever happened to the tapes???

Tommy Auldrich and I have been star crossed from the old days. I go one way he goes the other...

Kirk probabley knows the story better than I.........

Kirk, Why don't you tell the story and I'll fill in the blanks.........

Love, Chuck

Happy Birthday Wilma! Received your email thanks for the suggestion, Andries. PT fans are genuine. You guys are great.

Hey Tony-
Great info! Who is Kirk, Chuck is talking about?

PT fans, is there any way of following up on Tony's post. What DID happen to those tapes???? Who will know? Imagine PT doing "Politician" and "Whiter Shade of Pale"... Ginbels, see if you can GET AHOLD OF THOSE TAPES. Count me in as the first purchaser when you do! Robben Ford (and who knows who else) did a version of Politician that just smokes, I have heard there are tones on that song that has elluded guitarists for years.

Hey John Howe,
Shoot me a post. I like the pics you shot of PT in Orlando. fiftymkii@earthlink.net

I was listening to My Life is On the Line while I was working out the other day. Would LOVE to hear that one when they come to play the No Cal shows. Talk about a natural high. That Radioactive cd just kkillllss! What's that Steve Z?... you left it out as one of the favs for the Polydor years. Definately agree with the others you listed during those years but when I think of pure, hard-hitting, raw playing, Radioactive stands out. Some of the best tones PT gets can be heard on that cd. I really like Black Pearl but there does seem to be a transition occuring from the raw, pure guitar tone to more processing in BP when that began to be the hip thing to do.

Can you imagine all the material that is sitting in a drawer somewhere? Kinda makes you sick. Radioactive is my favorite also. Kind of has a punk feel to it. I don't mean the music. I really mean his attitude toward the sound.(If that makes any sense) Seems he tried to keep that edgieness(?) with Hot Shot, but fell short and came up glam and geeky(to me). NOT my favorite album(Hot Shot). Anyone hear anything about new material?

Hey Ginbel-

I am with you, what IS going on with the new material not that we want them to do a rush job? Just that with things being how they can be it would be nice to hear if the new material is at the same point it was at weeks ago, ready for recording, etc. It is nice to hear from the boys occasionally rather than it appear as if this site is solely reserved for PT fans who ramble about this or that. I cannot see where posting here is a problem like it could have been in the past for them.??
How about the Cunning Stunts band material? Someone could really have their work cut out for them doing the research into how to get ahold of the material mentioned.

Now all we need to do is get PTB to come back around in November and play The Roadhouse. Shiva - intersting take on Radioactive to Black Pearl. I always saw it more as the Radioactive guitar sound being the transition to Pat's Black Pearl sound, then to Hot Shot, which was a little more straight forward sounding. Radioactive had all those sweeping digital flanger and delay effects, which he mostly ditched for BP.

I do like Radioactive a lot, but at the time it came out, was dissapointed at the breakup of the Thrall-Mars-Aldridge lineup. So it never became one of my favorites. Probably my least favorite of the era is Hot Shot. It's good, but didn't have the variation in songwriting that the prior albums had.

Just one a-holes opinion...

Cheers!

Hey Steve,

Got those cd's the other day, listening to them right now. Great stuff!! Let me know if I can help out, I really appreciate that. Brings back memories. I'm besides myself trying to figure out why so many of the songs were still recognizable after all these years - I use to have both of those nearly 20 years ago! I plan to ask PT, but I believe those flanging tones from Radioactive are strictly analog. As I reflect back on it, Radioactive represented the first album where PT relied on a heavy amount of chorusing for his rhythm which he continues to use to this day. You can really hear where PT was unrestrained by the two guitar line-up of the previous band which, to this date, is one of my all time favorite.

I'm currently trying to have the Iron Maiden web site and their biography (by Mick Wall) corrected to show that the Pat Travers Band, not Maiden, were the special guests to UFO at Reading 1980. They have asked for proof and I have e mailed them the advertisements and articles before the festival but due to a house move I can't get my hands on my copies of the reviews of the actual performances. Does anyone out there have a copy they can scan and send to me? beenabar@yahoo.com

Shiva, glad you got the disks ok! Yeah, I used to go see Y&T at the Keystone in Palo Alto all the time, and those discs bring back a lot of great memories for me too!

You really think those heavy sweeping flanger tones on Radioactive are analog? I remember on that tour seeing rack effects for the first time in Pat's rig, and those didn't sound like the old A/DA flangers he used prior to that. Either way, it was definitely a different sound he went for on that album, and yes, I think in large part it was to fill up the sound of the trio, after playing with the 4 piece lineup. If you get to ask Pat what he was using back then (and if he remembers, after all this time!), let me know! I really wish I could come up to Sacto & San Jose for those shows, but I just can't get away then.

Cheers!

Hey Steve,

I made that statement regarding analog interpolating from PT's '79 setup and the sounds from the disc. Click under miscellaneous on the site here and read through the c.'80 article. Those sweeping flanging tones are likely coming from both the delays and leslie or just delays.? I intended to test that out through my setup a while back, but I have since gotten sidetracked by other tone discoveries and projects. Let me know what you think.

Oh yes, the 1980 Guitar Player interview, I remember it well! It used to be my rock & roll guitar bible back then!

What he describes there is the setup he was using during the Crash & Burn era, in which, yes, the Leslie's played a big part in the sound. For Radioactive, though, he revamped his setup pretty drastically. I'm not certain, but I'd bet the Leslie's were gone from that setup, and it was all processing. Probably still Marshall amps, though.

I was always curious to know just what he used for his Radioactive setup, as it was a pretty different sound from Crash & Burn. Definitely curious to know if he still remembers, if you get to chat with him next month! :-)

Cheers!

Hey Stevie Z and others interested in Pat's gear, I've always wondered what happened to the famous Melody Maker (Puttin it Straight etc) which I saw him play to devastating effect in the 70's. He said in an interview in 1980 or so over in England that it was stolen in New Orleans, but according to muso sources in Orlando, he broke the guitar and it wasnt the same afterwards and he sold it on. Anyone know for sure??

EnglishAl-I believe the Melody Maker was recovered by a private investigater several years later after it was sold. I believe it was sold on Ebay a year or two ago along with a couple of PT's other guitars. Apparently he didn't use them any more.

Hi all,
I just saw PT in Skullbone, TN on Sat. night and it sparked my interest enough to find the web site.
I am ashamed to admit that I had never really listened to PT before, but had heard my brother talk about him often. My brother is a musician in Orlando, Fl and I spent 24 years living in Daytona Beach. I moved to a burb of Memphis, TN about 5 years ago. The week before the show in TN, I happened to be in Florida visiting and caught my brothers band at Muldoons. After a set, I told my brother that I was going to the Skullbone show to see PT and Ted Nugent the day after I got back. My brother said that "FreightTrain" had been in the club a few minutes ago, but had left. At the show Saturday night I had a roadie get Eric and we got to meet and talk for a few minutes before they went on. The band blew me away! They were fantastic! My 19 year old son who plays drums was with me, and said that seeing FreightTrain and Tommy Cleuftos was great. I love introducing the young'uns to the masters that influenced the bands they are listening to today...(we love Creed)
My question is this: If you didn't have any PT music in your library but wanted to get a few cd's that would give you the highlights of a career, which ones would you buy? They played a bunch of songs that rocked, but I didn't know any of the names except for one that I heard Pat mention he wrote for his son, Elijah.
If any of the guys in the band read this, I am Carolyn...Richie Parker's sister. My husband and I do their web site and I have seen the pictures of Pat and Eric sitting in with them. For anybody in the Orlando area, the band is The Big Unit, and they play in various clubs almost every weekend. You can check out their site by going to: www.thebigunit.org
I hope to be able to visit the board on a regular basis and thanks in advance for the advice on which cd's to get...
Take care,
Carolyn Mathis

Just got word from Julie, of Julie fame, that PT will be sitting in with the Rex Rogers band on the 24th of August in Palm Harbor Florida. Palm Harbor is just a few miles north of St. Petersburg. St.Petersburg is just north of Tampa. If any of ya`ll need any more info about that show, just let me know.

Hey Carolyn M., You also might try CDnow.com as well as CDuniverse.com for PT cd`s. Ginbel does have the stuff you can`t find and he`ll be able to take care of ya. I did get " The Best of Pat Travers" from CDuniverse a couple of months ago and I play the bejeebers out of it while cruising the road. The Orlando area is packed with fine musicians!

Carolyn, DEFINITELY pick up The Best of Pat Travers & Go For What You Know Live to start, as these should be pretty easy to find. These give a great overview of the earlier years of PT, and the live CD is an all time classic great live album of all time!

Cheers!

The guys discussing PT's Melody Maker may be interested to know he was talking about it at his gig last year at the Sheffield Boardwalk in the UK.

I think he said he originally bought it in Sheffield - hence mentioning it at all!!! He said that when he got it back it was so horrible to play that he wondered why he ever liked it...!
Guess that's why he sold it!!!

I should leave a concert report of the VCR Tokyo show here first. Despite the fact that the show was not well promoted in a very short time, there were nearly a thousand people. Surprisingly, the show was started by a PT set. Pat played I la La La Love you as an opening track. It was with a keyboard player and was as excellent as its in 1982 show. As soon as the song finished, the crowd gave Pat the biggest cheer through the show. I am not exaggerating! Pat grinned at the audience in a little while and talked to us that it was the very first visit to Japan before starting to play "Boom Boom". The VCR version includes a Hammond organ solo and the guitar solo was slightly difference from Pat normally does in the PTB. Unfortunately, his set was only two songs but he managed to blow us away completely.

Having played two songs with Ronnie Hammond, Pat enjoyed playing a few Santana songs with Alex Ligertwood. Apart from the PT set, in my opinion, this set was the most exciting part of the show to me. Someone said that Alex is awesome. I agree with it!

After a short break, Pat came back to the stage with Glenn Hughes & Joe Lynn Turner and started to play "Woman From Tokyo" of Deep Purple. The DP & Rainbow set continued quite a while and as far as I can remember now, they played "Highway Star", "Stormbringer", "Burn", "Hush", "Stone Cold" and "Smoke On The Water on encore.. I had mixed feelings that Pat's playing the DP stuff, but he did play them in his way as Tommy Bolin did in the 70's. That was just amazing. And, one of the surprising things through the show was that Billy Sheehan (ex Dave Lee Roth Band / Mr. Big) joined "Smoke On The Water" on encore and did a jam session with Pat.

I want to write more, but it's 3:00AM in Japan now. Lastly, I'm sorry for my terrible English, Pat has been so good in Japan. He's going to go to Soul, Korea tomorrow and get back to Sasebo, Japan this weekend. I am going to catch Pat at a Sasebo show. Having been waiting for Pat almost 20 years in Japan, I got one of the greatest times in my life. Thank you, Pat!!! See you soon.

Further to Pats discussion of the Melody Maker at the Sheffield Boardwalk last year...yes he did buy it in Sheffield, yes it was stolen and was later recovered. Pat did mention at that gig that it was up for sale. The guitar is also on the 'Lookin' Up' cover.
