Hello gang! Thank you so much for the"Happy Birthday's". You guys are the best. We are having a blast with Crash and Burn in the set. You know I had never even heard that song till 3 months ago. It's kinda cool that way. That way Pat teaches it to us the way he wants to hear it. Then Rick and I go back and listen to the original later. Anyway we are looking very forward to the Texas shows. Rich (our promoter in TX) is a blast to hang out with....especially in his home state! Ed, Scott,Jo,Darren,Sandy,Dave,Keri,Cindy,Daryl, I had a great time out west with you last month. I can't wait to get back out there. Big Thanks to WISHBOX for doing a great job on the tour with us. As well as letting us use their gear.Well it's getting late I will post again soon.
P.S. Yo' stalker I thought YOU were bringing the dancers on Saturday!!!!! Seriously John E-mail me @ ptbbadass@aol.com and I will arrange Saturday for you as far as admission etc.. Good night. ERIC

Yeah, Eric, it was cool to hear "Crash & Burn" when you guys played in Buffalo last Sat. Definitely a great addition to the set! I liked the arrangment without the keyboard. Not having it didn't take away much at all.

That's interesting how you just heard it a few months ago. I would have thought by know that you and Rick had listened to a lot of his early stuff. I remember when that album came out. I was in college and I used to play it constantly...drove the dorm RA's crazy. I only ever played it volume full blast!! They couldn't believe when they came in my room one afternoon because I wouldn't answer the door and they wanted it turned down. Weren't they suprised to see me laying on the couch...head near the speaker...sleeping!!! Hey...it was relaxing music!!!

BTW Happy Belated Eric!!!

Hey gREG, did you lose my reservations already? I had that in after NYE 2000, lol lol. Not too sure of the plans yet, depending on if I can take any time off, would like to get to AZ a day or 2 before, and check out Cooperstown again. Just all depends on work and flight times.

Ed, I figured out my problem with the webpage, stupid mistake I made. Oh well, getting it fixed and almost finished the Darrington 2002 Pages.

Who else would really like to see some more of the new material included in the set list? Pat had "Wiser Man" in there for a while before "Elijah" made it. I really wish we could get our hands on some new material. It's been way too long and I'm starting to go through PT dt's.

Posted on Tuesday, September 03, 2002 - 06:01 am:

Totally agree. PT & the boys always give a fantastic show anyway, but even some different oldies would be nice. Some completely new material would be ideal (esp if 'Elijah' is anything to go by - fantastic song - more like 'real' PT than the 'blues/covers' stuff!!!)

Having said that, I'll go & see PT anytime he's in the UK, even if he just plays 'Just Enough Money' (not a fave of mine) 10 times!!!!!!!

When they drop a song from their set list I sure miss it. At the Darrington gig, they didn't play the medley (or Crash and burn) (some equipment was left at the hotel), BUT they played, Fortunate Son (FrieghtTrain sings)...was excellent. Would have been very cool if it was a 7th fold tune:) I am just happy when I get to see them no matter what they play

I see talk about Pat playin some new/different tunes in his live set...ironic but I was thinking about asking for "Speakeasy" or "Off Beat Ride" when we do the Texas shows.....he probably doesn't do requests. He's very easy going and it's worth a try though.......for anybody that can make them, DON'T miss the Texas shows if at all possible. Some moron is spreading viruses (Klez, for one) through email using PTB family notables. The first came from "patravers2", then one from "ericfr8train" and then one from "ginbels27" I think. If you don't have virus protection, GET IT! I use Norton AntiVirus, and it catches them every time. Norton Internet Security tells you who has tried to hack you and when.

Hey Randal,

You`re right about that virus with the PTB type regulars. The virus tried to get into my e-mail system tonight, but my McCafe anti-virus caught it right away. Also remember to up date it on a frequently. I update it at least once a week. About a year ago I got hit with a virus and it took a long time to get my kumpewtr working right. By the way, I am making progress on my Tempe Arizona trip!!!

Hey Greg... if the invite is still there... so are we!!! Looking forward to hanging out with everyone!! The virus tried to get me to. Bear in mind that most likely what is going on here is someone (of us) has the virus and or a hacker is emailing others from your outlook files. Trojan/ Hackers programs disguised as P2P file sharing program such as kazaa and morpheus, and the old napster are designed to let hackers do all sorts of unethical and illegal activities from your computer without you having any idea about it. As soon as you load thier program the fun begins (for them). Get on get what you want and get off and erase your hard drive and restore with the back up I know all of you were smart enough to make for yourselves.... right? If you need help with that last one email me or call and I'll help. That is VERY important nowadays unless you want to start from scratch again(imagine that for one moment) VERY, VERY clever these people are. Not to worry though, just keep up to date with your anti-virus program and all should be well.

Hooked on PT,

For that Buffalo show 8/24 I was about 10 deep in front of Rick. I took some video footage of Elijah and Rick's solo and the first few notes of Whippin' Post, until a security kid requested I not use the camcorder. (This would be the same kid who requested I chug my bottle of Mountain Dew before entering the park area, and the same one I walked past when I re-entered the park with camcorder in full view 10 minutes before he "caught" me. (I had left the camcorder in my vehicle and went back for it during "The Pain" & "Just Enough Money")).

Anyway, it's my "mini-treasure" from that night, seeing how it was a FREE show & I don't have a ticket stub.

I thought Pat's sense of humor was great when, after breaking a string & having to change the order of the set, he introduced his bassist:

"I'd like you to meet our bass player, Joe Chicago...He's from Indiana." (Freight Train does a "ba-doom boom" to emphasize the punch line.)

Well, Mr. "Chicago" spanked that bass like there was no tomorrow & brought on lots of cheers from the crowd when he worked in "Norwegian Wood".

Again, what a great show!

I got back from Daytona a few hours ago, and well.., it was bit of rough one for the guys. The sound system was pretty lousy. You had to be right up at the stage to hear! The lighting was pretty pathetic also, you could hardly see them. Pat had to keep asking for sound changes during the whole show. The guys did thier best with what they had.

They opened with "Hooked on Music" and then went into "Life in London". They then rollled into "Case of the Blues" and then went into "The Pain", two of my favorites. Then I heard something different and after a few notes I realized that it was "Crash & Burn". It`s a bit diferrent on guitar because it`s one of my favorite keyboard numbers of all time. Rick was grinning all the time during that number, he was having fun! Next it was "Stevie" and after that Rick broke into his solo and got several big cheers during it. They then went into "Whipping Post" and during that tune Eric kinda went beserk on the skins, which drew a huge roar from the crowd! Next up was "Snortin'". During this tune some drunk, burned out dude came up on stage and went right up to Pat`s face and was givining PT 2 thumbs up. It took several seconds for the 1 "security" dude to wake up and get the guy off stage. It was time now for "Boom" and after that, Eric and Rick stood up waved to the crowd and stepped off stage. Pat then grabbed his pink strat and after a quick check realized that it was outta tune again, after using it just once. He spent a minute or two retuning it and went into the volume delayed sweep tune. He had to stop once in the middle to make another change on the strat, he got it re-re adjusted and just about finished the tune. He stepped on a pedal and a strange hum came out of the amp. He turned the pedal "gizmo" off and about that time Eric and Rick came out to the rescue. They went into "Bad Sign" and in the middle of that PT just unplugged the strat and plugged in another guitar and they wrapped the show up.

Yeah, it was kinda a tough evening for the guys, but the fans still were very, very apreciative!!!

I did have a chance to sit and talk with Eric before the show and he told me that the west coast tour was great, and with a big smile on his face, told me how much he enjoyed seeing the west coast hammerheads again!!! He started naming names and I recognized many of those names from this board! He also said that the band is looking forward to the Texas trip. He said that the promoter of the tour is a great guy to work with!

Well, thats my very abbrieviated story, and I`m stickin' to it!

I have tickets to see Rush September 18. For the ticket price (paying for only one band), they better put on the frickin' show you folks are boasting about. Three hour performance you say...well that would even make the ticket prices more digestable.

PT sounds quite good on that live 1995 CD doesn't he? Nice to hear some of those Blues Magnet songs that I have not heard him do for years.

Looks like Rockin' Roy has been at it again, nnniiiiice touch.

PS -- Hey everybody! Sorry to advertise here, but we're really strapped waiting for the hotel deal to come through. It's been over a year and we're ready to go except for financing, which is looking good but which will still take another month or two. We have lots of irons in the fire, but very little in the office right now as bills for the hotel keep piling up.

If you or anyone you know are in a position to select architects for any construction project anywhere in the US or Canada, PLEASE consider giving us a plug. We're hurting -- you can see our stuff on www.ehmarch.com. We can also build apartments and hotels through my design-build company - see us at www.ehmarch.com/mmp

That said, I posted my "Don't Tread on Me" flag in the window of the office again this year. Let me know if you want it and I'll email the file to ya - randal@ehmarch.com

Thanks for thinking of us! Hang in there, everyone who's in a similar boat. (sound of holding breath until tommorow night)

yep, me too! I have been getting emails from people on this and Cindy's site with headings like... "virus protection" or 'klez protection". Beware that these are not "protection advice" or "updates" they are an actual virus. Some of the emails contain two attachments. These attachments are a explorer or jpeg image file and an .exe also known as an executable file. If your open these files... congratulations you now have the brand new jpeg virus which no anti-virus software can fix yet. Fortunately Anti-virul programs detect the contents of the email as some sort of script bug and warn you, but send it to you anyway. DO NOT open these files or you are going to have some REAL problems. Anyway has anyone received anything like that from us? I don't really think so, but I want to check. I wish I had compiled a list of names from here of the people who are either infected or hackers are using thier email to send viruses. I don't really want to list names... what I will do from now on is compile a list and start responding seperately to all involved. Just watch your butt!! A LOT of CRAP out there! and yes.... PTBROXXX!!!!!!!! ps if your are near the Texas gigs and want CDs... come to the gigs to get CDs!! The band has quite a few!!

Hey Gins! I forgot to say I got the DVD and CD! Thanks! It looks great! I am waiting for a time when the family has left me alone for an hour or two so I can really get it cookin'! Thanks for all your efforts!

I too am getting wierd e-mails from crazy-ass addresses! They are coming to my work email, not to my home which is odd. They are empty when they get to me, ie no attachments. But the messages are the usual IE 6.0 patch or "here is a site to get Klez antivirus ware" etc. If anyone gets anything from me, let me know so I can take action on my computer or let my IT people at work know. All my e-mail addresses have my name in them so you will know if it is me.

Getting ready for Saturday! If Eric or Rick see this post, give me a shout! Can't wait to see you guys!

okay, I have had it! Now Rick's email address just sent us the Klez 32 virus disguised as "new website" and has two attachments). Obviously this thing is being done with out anyones knowledge. Okay I have done some investigation and foundwhere it is coming from.. the return path is... daly@quixnet.net
I say we email the hell out of this address!!! All you have to do to see where it is coming from is... open the mail (NOT THE ATTACHMENTS!!!) the go to File>>>> Then Properties. Look at the very top of the long list of jargon and you will see the return path. Gee... oddly enough the return path is blocked from returning the attachment. So I just Copy/pasted the attachments and sent it back to them. Of course they probably won't get the virus, but it is worth the try. Jerks!! Anyway everyone getting these check it out and post here what you find. We need to try to stop this. I am also reporting this activity to the SARC. This is a comittee who takes care of viruses and thier sources. You can access thier email through your anti-virus program. Oh... and as usual PTB ROCKS!!! TEXAS!!!!! ps. If you have Out Look or Out Look Express TURN OFF the "preview window". If you leave it on you are opening every message every time you down load it. Open Out Look and go to... Tools>>>> Options>>>>Read>>>> Then make sure you UN-check the box that says.."Automatically download message when viewing in the preview pane" Then click "Apply" then "OK" and you are done. MUCH, MUCH safer this way!

So the virus is replicating everyones emails. Well someone has it and does not know it. Yeah the viruses are getting real bad! Many, many web sites are also dishing out trojan software and viruses like candy at Halloween. Surfing the web has become the equivalent of swimming in the Hudson river (sorry N.Y.)or a cesspool. They are not "supposed" to do that, but who is policing that stuff....? nobody! Got to watch your butt out there! It has become a war zone of sorts.

Hey folks, I've been getting some interesting virus messages, too.

The subject of one was "September 8, 2002 8" and the other was "a special good tool". The text message in each is "RAV AntiVirus has deleted this file because it contained dangerous code!"

I checked props per Ginbel's suggestion:

Return path is RKVN@email.msn.com

at the bottom of the props it says "X-Apparently-From: Rick1Navarro@aol.com"

On email was from zepagain@zepagain.com, the other from beenabar@yahoo.com

I don't think I caught anything from these. Just passing along the info.

Yeah, its the whole enchilada. What's the quote, "difficult times take difficult measures," or something like that. It's only temporary. The last one lasted several years, but I think we'll only be down for a few months 'til the Port Angeles hotel kicks in. We're negotiating for another one in the Adirondacks, one in the Chicago area (Elk Grove), and one in Oceanside north of San Diego. Had too many eggs in one basket, as they say, so I need to find more eggs

Yee-Ha! Did Pat, Rick, & Eric Rock The Hell Out of Texas or What?! Hell Yes They Did!! Right down to the holes in my boots! Damn can I not grow tired of seeing them!? Hell No I Can't!! Every time I see Pat live I swear some of the songs sound new again! It may sound like bulls**t, but it's the truth.

Speaking of New Again, has anyone heard that kick-ass tune, something called "Crash And Burn"??! Damn Sam!! Pat does some delay/echo thing at the beginning! Don't ask me as I am neither a tech nor a guitar player, but it was damn cool! And the song sounded absolutely great!

I brought a small group with me this time. There were only six of us, and two were PTB Newbies! Virgins if you will! My buddy seeing them for the first time said, "I knew listening to you talk about Pat he would be really good, but I didn't expect his band to be so damn good!" And all I could say was, "Right!!" Rick and Eric complement Pat very well! I decided I never want to hear or see this phrase: "Eric Frates and Rick Navarro, formerly of The Pat Travers Band..." I know they will move on with their own projects eventually, but I hope I am forgetting my last name like Charlton Heston by then! I don't want to know about it! And forget the fact that they are incredible musicians for a minute. What genuinely nice people! Damn! Eric and Rick sat and talked with me while signing things for folks there. Rick took me around like I was family and Eric got Pat from backstage for some pictures with me and one of my buddies!

I met up with "the other" Die-Hard Dallas PTB fan at the show! I had lost track of him and couldn't reach him the days before the show. But lo and behold...The Pat Travers Band, gatherer of lost, kindred souls! Good seeing you Troy! I will be in touch!

I met Rich Sieb, the promoter of the Texas shows. He was extremely nice. He gave me a pretty cool "After Show Guest" pass, kind of like a backstage pass. Rick, Eric, and Pat all signed it. He asked me if I was going to see Thin Lizzy next month, as that is being booked by him as well! He said he brought them to Dallas last year when I saw them. He told me to keep in touch. I think we may hear from him again! I also think the band liked him as well!

Lot's of CD's at the show! I saw several purchased for signing! Somebody find out who's doing those and sign him up! Great job Rich & Nancy! I know The Band has got to appreciate what you do!

Great big Posters at the venue the night of the show! One of them is in my possession, signed by the band! The pic on the poster is made from an animated .gif (ani14.gif) from the site! Go Daryl! Rick saw it and recognized it immediately! And named you as the creator! Go Daryl!! I will take a picture of it and post it on my site later so anyone that wants to see it can!

Speaking of the posters, I almost didn't get one! I had my eye on them before the show and was determined to snag one! Waiting to see The Boys one more time before heading home after the show, I'm strolling around and the posters are all gone! Well, long story short, a guy named I think Elias that works at the club, heard me and my buddy Scott bitchin' and moaning about not getting one. He comes out of an office with one rolled up and hands it to me! I couldn't believe it! Then, Cedric, a security guy at the club comes up to me and asks if I want to go backstage and visit some more with my friends! "My Friends" he said! Of course I said..."Hell Yeah!" So he took me back! I sat on a couch next to Pat for a few minutes, talking to him and Rick. I swear I feel like I'm bugging him every time I talk to him! I try not to swoon or ogle! It is cool though, sitting and talking to a guy you have been listening to since you were 15 years old!

I didn't get to hang out with them for long after the show, maybe an hour or so. But it was more than enough for me! Just being a small part of the whole experience is cool! Like I told Rick Saturday night, "I'm here for the music!" And I am! And will be for a while!

Well that's it from Texas! At least from me!! I hope that when my wife leaves me, Pat and The Boys are still kicking so I can go on extended road trips with her half of the retirement! Just kidding! Only about the wife part, as I would love to travel around seeing the band!

Take care all! Check 'em out when they get near you! And if something turns up, stick your finger in it!!

Later...Jim
Oh Yeah!

Thought you'd want to see the post that Rich Seib put on Cindy's PTB site:

From: Rick Seib
Date: Tue Sep 17, 2002 1:36 pm
Subject: Re: [Pat Travers] PTB in the Lone Star state?

Hey John Howe.......Rich/Van Halen promoter dude here with a report for
ya........the boys did a fine job of kicking a lot of Texas ass......in fact,
we haven't had our butts kicked that bad since the Alamo!! Austin was a small
crowd but we met some new friends, dealt with the problems as they came and
PT rocked like he was playing for thousands. That's one reason I will always do
my best to bring Pat and the boys back to Texas........no matter what the
performance situation, the guys just plug in and stomp ass like it's Woodstock!
Houston was smokin show to a packed house at the Cactus Moon! Again we all met
new faces and partied with the old friends that traveled in for the
show......Ragin Cajun, it was good to meet ya dude!! Pat actually played stage
left for the first time in a while.....it worked and more of the crowd could
see just how great of a player he still is! Thanks to Tom and his staff at the
Moon for making the show happen......let's do it next year! Dallas was a great
venue for rock music....the Canyon Club.....moderate crowd but Grand Funk &
Blue Oyster Cult were playing against us at another venue. Lots of old freinds
showed up for the party though......it was a family reunion of sorts. Sunday
was a BBQ at my house for the guys.....they seemed to enjoy the meat, wine,
rest and a movie. It was really great to be sitting in my own living room with
PT, Eric and Rick watching TV, laughing, having drinks! It made my life anyway!
Then off to San Antonio where the fans are rowdy and die-hard in every way.
There just isn't enough whiskey and rock & roll to satisfy those animals. I
love rabid fans and I know PTB does too........after getting no sleep, rockin
the house the way did throughout Texas...I know the band is ready for some
family time and R&R. In the end........traveling the road with these guys for
the last 5 days has been an honor for me. I'm a Pat Travers fan before anything
else.....although he puts his pants on just like anyone else, his talent, drive
and genuine love for music make him a treasure. I got to live and the road with
with some of my favorite people in music, laughing the whole time and wishing
more PTB fans could know the feeling too. God bless all of the fans that
support his music and keep him playing..........as long as we keep going to the
shows, buying the CD's and fanning the flame....Pat will continue to plug in
and kick our collective asses!!! Look out west Texas......the second leg of the
Pat Travers Band Texas Ho-Down is comin!! Everyone PLEEZ, rock hard and
always!! Thanks........Rich-promoter dude.

VIRUS!!! part 2

Hey folks, I have a client who came down with the a strain of the KLEZ virus, which has been flying around these parts as well. What a bug. Not only does it replicate itself via email, it also trashes files with certain extensions on your disk. It loads itself at startup and looks for key dates. Certain strains act on the 13th(I think) of the even months. The other strains act on the 6th of the odd months. This is what happened to my client. When it ran, it replaced her Excel and JPG files with junk. It effects probabably 10 other extensions as well. Detailed information on this can be found on the Trend-micro website. That's the same site as the house-call link someone posted earlier - they scan your Pc for free, and will provide a fix for the KLEZ. However, the virus is so advanced, it managed to delete the AVfix I downloaded! I had cancelled the cleaning for some reason and it immediately deleted the EXE.

Quite fascinating really...as long it's not happening to my machine that is!

The virus will also search out network drives when it's doing it's file trashing, so be careful if you have any peer-to-peer drive "shares".

Good luck!

Hey gREG! Have you seen that Heineken commercial, it shows some guys standing around at a party, holding a heinie in their hands, and their arms are red from the elbow to the hand and they are shaking? Then they show this other guy going to get a beer, well, he has to fish out the beer in a huge tub full of ice water, just to get the heinie "It's all about the beer"!! Sure brought back flashbacks from New years 2000 in AZ, but hey, you were smart you got ALL the beer out of the tub for the after party, even the coors light!! LMAO!! I laugh when I see that commercial and think of you!

Went to see Rick Derringer in Akron the other night as part of my 40th birthday week long celebration. What a great show; it was well worth the trip down. Got to meet him and the boys after the show. The boys, in case you didn't know, are both former PT bandmates. (Rick apparently uses PT to scout out talent!) On bass was none other than Kevin Rian. On drums was Tom Curiale. We got the chance to meet and talk to all of them after the show, as well as Kevin's lovely wife, Karyn. What a great bunch of people!! Very down to earth. They helped make the transition to "40" very easy!!!

You know, when I was a kid, I didn't imagine rockin' out at this age...my dad certainly didn't! But man, you look at guys like PT and Rick, and they just keep on going and going and going.....I want to be like them when I grow up!!!

I filmed Pat when he and the "Voices of Classic Rock" came to Korea last month on 3 August.

Just curious if anyone out there would be interested in trading a PT video for this one. I've got it on my harddrive and can record in Super VHS for a super clean copy (or standard VHS). It's 106 minutes long. This is not for sale - strictly for trades only.

my email: mailto:guitarbill@hotmail.com

Here's some additional notes:

Setlist:
1. I La La La Love You (Pat Travers)
2. Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights) (Pat Travers)
3. So Into You (Ronnie Hammond)
4. Imaginary Lover (Ronnie Hammond)
5. Make You A Believer (Sass Jordan)
6. High Road Easy (Sass Jordan)
7. Africa (Fergie Fredericksen)
8. Rosanna (Fergie Fredericksen)
9. Winning (Alex Ligertwood)
10. Black Magic Woman (Alex Ligertwood)
11. Hush (Joe Lynn Turner)
12. Stormbringer (Glenn Hughes)
13. My Woman From Tokyo (Joe Lynn Turner)
14. Burn (Glenn Hughes)
15. Hold On (Alex Ligertwood)
16. Hold The Line (Fergie Fredericksen)
17. Smoke On The Water (Joe Lynn Turner)
18. Superstition (Stevie Wonder song)
19. Star Spangled Banner

The first eight songs were shot from 30 feet in front of stage left (Pat's side of the stage), the remainder of the show was shot from the edge of the stage directly in front of or to the side of Pat. Although this was not a Pat Travers concert, I wanted to focus on Pat, and that's what I did. You still get plenty of shots of the other band members, however, the majority of the time, the camera is on Pat. There are plenty of extremely close up shots of Pat's guitar playing. Because of the bright backdrop (a bright, clear sky and at times a setting sun behind the stage), the picture is a little dark at times, especially toward the second half of the show. The only way around this was to fill up the camera lens with an image (which resulted in a normal level of brightness), so aside from the fact that I like lots of nice close ups of the guitarist, I didn't have much of a choice. The sound during the first eight songs is nice and balanced. During the portion taped in front of Pat, Pat's amplifier tended to drowned out the vocals a bit - however, his guitar playing came through loud and clear.

These guys put on a great show, but they especially rocked with great passion during the Santana and Deep Purple sets.

The "Voices of Classic Rock" featured:

Pat Travers - guitar
Ronnie Hammond (Atlanta Rhythm Section) - vocals
Alex Ligertwood (Santana) - vocals
Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple) - vocals
Joe Lynn Turner (Deep Purple & Rainbow) - vocals
Fergie - Fredericksen (Toto) - vocals
Sass Jordan - vocals
Derek Sharp - guitar
Lane Hoppen - keyboards
Barry Dunaway - bass

what format do you have it stored on your hard drive? What is the file size for the show? How did you manage to film the whole thing? They actually let you bring a video camera in? I am intersted in the video, but not a copy off of a tape. I would like a copy of the file off the hard drive. Is it an AVI file?

Ginbel,

Well, what I've got on the harddrive is DV (digital video), which is about 10 gig per hour of video... so I don't think you'll be able to get a copy of that.

Here's how I do it: I have a digital/analog converter box made by Canopus (it sounds impressive and big - but it's the size of two cigarette packs laying side by side). It converts analog to digital or digital to analog. I hook my video camera up to it (which is analog) and open up a video capture program on my computer (I've got a Mac and I use a program called iMovie). Once the video is on the harddrive, of course, it is digital.

I then edited the video (cut a little pre-concert stuff here, added in some subtitles for date and location, etc., made some nice crossfades to smooth out the transfers between scenes, and made little five second stills for each of the band members. I added in a couple of other things to just make it look nice.

Using the same little converter box (however, this time it's going from digital to analog), I export the video from the computer to an Super VHS 6 head VCR made by JVC. I use top of the line gold tipped RCA cables for audio and a high quality S VIDEO cable for the video. The result is an outstanding video copy that is about as close to the master as you can get while working with analog.

Of course, i can also copy it to regular VHS, however, you have to remember, standard VHS is 230 lines of resolution, and S VHS is 400 lines, so it's almost twice as good. It's very easy to tell the difference.

If things work out well, in the next couple of months, I will be able to author and burn my own DVDs - and this will be going on a DVD. I might cut out some of the footage (stuff that doesn't really feature Pat prominently, and fill out the two hour DVD with some other PT footage (I have a tape from German TV filmed in 76 on a show called "Rockpalast").

Whatever the case, this is a great PT video for those who really dig Pat's guitar work. If you're looking for the big stage shot with all the musicians, this isn't for you. This is PT up very, very close and personal. During one song when he came out to the edge of the stage, I had to zoom all the way out and lean backwards just to get both of the his hands in the viewer frame.

Regarding AVI and similar files - I am really not interested in them because they are so low in quality compared to what I do. I just don't have the time to mess with them because doing the high quality stuff can be very time and labor intensive.

DVD authoring for the masses is only a year or two away, so AVI, WMV, VCDs, etc. will all be obsolete soon (IMHO).

Lastly, this was filmed at an Army base in Seoul, and because it was on base, there wasn't any of the typical security that you find at regular concerts. The band didn't' have roadies or stage managers either. They just had a Korean crew hired to run the sound for the show and someone from the Army helping them get around.

It's Led Zepagain, and we're opening for AC/DC tribute, TNT, who rocks pretty damn hard. We played with them in Tucson. We usually try to stick the venues for dinner for us when we're out of town, but come on by early and hang! I'll comp you + a guest.

Hey Randy,
I actually have the same equipment (ADVC 100) and I produce DVDs (for Pat) that is the reason I was asking for the file. I am currently producing several DVDs for the band and I am looking for additional footage. If what you have is uncompressed AVI (audio-visual interleaved), you could put the raw footage on several 4.7GB DVD-Rs. This way I can do all my own editing and not decompress and MPEG2 file. You had mentioned AVI as not being good.. actually that is the best because it is not compressed. The file the ADVC100 creates is actually D-1 video file. So that is as good as you are going to get it. Bear in mind you are only going to get maximum about 75 minutes of high bit rate video (6/mbs{roughly} MPEG2 video and Dolby AC-3 192/kbs audio) on one DVD-R. I really don't want the whole show... just Pat. I will send you the DVD-Rs for the the AVI files. Just split them so you put no more than about 4.3GBG on any single disc. Also are using DVD-R not DVD+R... is that right? Anyway let me know what you have and can do for us so we can use it on Pats next DVD. even it is only some solo footage there is a lot we are wanting to do with motion menus using Sonic Solutions - Scenarist authoring program. Email me at ginbel27@comcast.net ( G I N B E L 2 7 ). Sorry for making this sound like a video editing forum... we now bring you back to your regularly scheduled forum...LOL! oh... and ... Hey randy,
Can I just borrow your original master? I just re-read your post and grasped the fact that it was an analog recording. So we can skip all the middle stuff and just use the master and I'll do my own A/D conversion. I use only the finest JVC decks (9800 pro series) and I will return your tape promptly. Thanx, Rich

Hey Bill,
The DVDs will come down to a little more "earthly" price. Frankly it really depends on the fans. We would love nothing more than to sell them for a dirt cheap price. We could do it to if everyone was to actually get one. As is we are left to produce in short run quantities which drives the cost way up. Just economics. Most likely they will be in the $30.00 to $35.00 range.

Looks like Edvision has been busy on the front page again.

hey steve,

That guitar your refering to belongs to one of the guitarist of Wishbox. PT only played it when he broke a string on his custom Gibson (at the Boardwalk, at least). Once PT's guitar was restrung he went back to his own. IMO, it was not a particularly good sounding les paul and the finish was rather dull, I noticed when PT played it that he changed his picking attack to try to produce the intended effect with a bit of a struggle. PT did not sound as good, though not bad, through that guitar as he did with his own. All of the Baker's I tried out were better sounding than that Gibson.

Ginbel, I am going to have to read up on that dvd tech info/posts again. Maybe I missed something, but is there anything to worry about for playing any future dvd's you have in the shoot?

I had a dream the other night that PTB was back in No cal playing a gig(felt like a matter of weeks or months away)...is my subconscious predicting the inevitable or maybe I am deprived. Had to bring this up after what Blur posted. I know PTB can get a gig here in town if the contact would be made.

Scott &Jo,
Yes, I confirmed that Bone Bash 3 the other night through the Bone's website. You folks must have inside info as it was not posted for even days after you informed me here. Way to go! I think I am just going to have to settle for the gig here in town at the Roadhouse. Will you folks be attending?

Scott & Jo,

Been doing good. Waiting for the day when I see my beauty that I am having custom built, ran into one snag but that has been worked through. I have been looking for, of all things, a nail polish color(sparkling ruby and garnet red) that I saw months ago on a girl. All I could think of was how absolutely gorgeous it would be as a paint job on a guitar. Going to see that AC/DC tribute band tonight at the Roadhouse.
The Rush concert...where to begin...? As you may recall that was the day that we were having several wildfires throughout the areas (including the outling areas of the ampitheatre). When I arrived, they had no power. The pre-concert music was being powered by a huge generator which arrived via a large truck. I was told it could power the entire venue if need be although they expected to regain full power(which they did) before Geddy and his dryers would tumble on to the stage. The prices of drink made the thought of purchasing any out of the mind ($6.50, $7) at least there was no parking charge. I sat next to someone who thought they were an overweight Geddy singing on steroids. A few rows in back of me there were at least 2 guys who could not clam-up so much so that I could almost overhear what they were talking about over Rush playing - obviously obliterated. Fortunately, that did not last too long...next thing you know they and a guy or two in front of them begin going at it and carry their fight down a couple more rows almost ending up going over the seats of the friendly girls beside me(they flew out of their seats and out of the area rather quickly). A couple others get involved attempting to break up the fight. Staff finally comes over and they were not even going to through the jerks out until myself and Geddy on steroids next to me both demand that they be removed before things only get worse. I cannot even remember the song Rush was playing but it certainly lasted for at least one song. My seat was AT LEAST 80 yards if not 100 yards from the stage(even with binoculars it was difficult to see some things). Being that it was a windy day the soudwaves would go in and out with the wind until it calmed down towards the latter part of the show. Rush played two sets - set one lasted 1 hour, set 2 1 1/2 hours, with a 20 min intermission in between. Rush turned up the heat during the second set making it a good strong performance. Peart's solo was one of the best I have ever seen second to none showing great versatility and composition. Here again a guy who was attempting to emulate Peart began to drum away on one of the seats in front of him. I found the digital animation show to be distracting and a little too much, but at times humorous showing another side of the band. The large screens they had on each side of the stage were quite good. Occasionally, it seemed the lighting men were on break or asleep when the camera focused on one of the members showing up very dark. Anyways, Rush was good. I would have to rethink and reconsider whether I would see a concert there again. That was my first exposure to the ampitheatre and admittedly I have been spoiled by the concert clubs I have been to. However, there was such a great distance between my seat and the band that I do not know if I would be interested in seeing a concert there again unless it would be one of the closer seats ($$).
Understand what you mean by more bands for the $$...I have seen Satchman a few times already and Journey is not really a band I am interested in seeing in concert - though their music does seem to attract the women. The Roadhouse venue will hopefully provide me with an opportunity to ask Montrose a couple guitar-tech questions. That man is a real tone hound and knowledgeable as all get out. Well, I swore to myself that I would not go into depth about the Rush concert before I came to the keyboard thinking it would just be to boring to others...Ha! Going to Eddie Money/Loverboy/Survivor concert at Konocti (a good concert venue not too large) next weekend.
You guys take care of yourselves.

I saw Ronnie four years ago at Palookaville in Santa Cruz, CA. I was front row hanging on the stage right in front of him. He really can play.

The only negative thing I can say is that his show was 100% instrumental. I didn't know this ahead of time and I was really looking forward to hearing at least a couple of his classics from back in the early 70s.

The Snorkels
Posted on Monday, September 30, 2002 - 06:59 am:

Hi there,
Yesterday we were in Belgium to see Hughes/Turner.
We read on the GH-board that they had soundproblems all the time, but not this time! The show was awesome. I can understand that Pat wants to join the voices of rock, cause they ARE voices of rock! Glenn's voice was clear as chrystal, Joe's voice is also great and JJ Marsh, the Swedish guitarist got very near to Ritchie Blackmore!
JJ is a very nice guy, signed stuff and took pictures with us before the show. We brought some funny PTB pics, and that made Glenn curious enough to come out also to take a look. So signing and pictures with him too. Joe came out as well, and watching our PTB shirts, saying PTB!! He said PT did a great job over in Japan!
There was no time left for Joe to sign, but after the show he did, and pics of course.
So we had a great evening, it was a goosebubble show!
So when HTP is coming near you, GO!

Maybe we'll be able to see Glenn again with the 'Legends of Rock', with Jack Bruce, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker and Don Airey. They will be touring in England in november. But maybe they will also come to Europe in october, TBA.
We'll just wait and see.

Greetings from the dutch hammerheads, Wilma and Andries.

Hey all!

Had a blast at the Rush show; the meet & greet was cool, but VERY brief! They had maybe 30-40 people to go through, and it was about 40 minutes till showtime! We were told, no time for autographs, just a quick hello, pose for a picture with a disposable camera which they then gave us, and, "have a good show, guys!" Still, it was cool to get to meet them!

Cindy, I won the tickets & passes from KLOS radio here in LA. They asked what Rush album a couple of songs were on, and I was the guy with the answer!

We haven't developed the pics yet, but here's some pics of the show that Catherine took with her digital at http://home1.gte.net/res0oih6/index.htm

Great Pics Steve! Especially the last one! What a diverse looking group!! Kind of like the ones I hang with! The shots of the stage, especially the screen are incredibly clear! I am now sad I didn't pony up the $75 bucks for a seat in the worst arena in all of Texas, maybe the entire southwest, The Smirnoff Amphitheatre! They spell it -theatre to give it some appeal! It's a concrete hole in the middle of South Dallas with the acoustics of a coffee can! That said, I'm sad I missed Rush. I saw them on "Moving Pictures" (and about five other tours!) and I was utterly amazed!

gREG! I don't see NYE in my future. Unless my wife is ready for separate vacations! But you can bet your *ss that if she is ready, so am I!! And yes I did eventually let go of the plane!! I'll add the next two pics in sequence and you can see my chute begin to open!

Hey Gin! My circle is on the outer ring! Maybe second or third!! I got the space for my site at www.homestead.com. Free hosting with the little banner along the bottom. They provide all the tools, just add your pics and graphics and go! I made the Beseau's World graphic with the tools they provide. It was better but they quit supporting the tool I made it with and when I remade it, it almost sucked! I'll give it another go eventually!
