Hello Everyone! This is my first post here. I've been to this site a few times in the past to have a look around and I must say it's very well done (Thumbs up to the Webmaster). I'm putting my feelers out there to see if there are diehard collectors of Pat Travers shows on audio or video. I've always considered Pat one of my favorite guitarists for over the last 25 years and had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and playing his material in some of the bands I've been in over the years. I'd love to find someone out there who would like to trade for some shows, I have a few but not many of Pat, however I have a massive collection that features all kinds of different stuff and perhaps we can arrange a trade. Hope to hear from someone. Thanks! |

Rick Derringer & PTB put on a great show last night in Holland. RD played first. Played some new ones i didn't catch the names of and some classics from "Hang On Sloopy", "Still Alive And Well", "Jump,Jump,Jump" and "Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo". His wife joined in on a couple of tunes and sang background vocals. Eric and Rick did a great job backing RD. On an instrumental tune (?) they did some very heavy excellent rhythem patterns. Well there is actually nothing new to mention with PTB. Same set. Same lines. Only thing was that this was by far the loudest PTB i have ever been to. Iv'e been to some 30 odd shows. I have never complained but this was the worst sound i've ever heard. Tons of feedback, some very ugly bass tones, besides the more usual high frequency stuff. Still it was fun as always. The band was much appreciated and seemed to have fun despite having travelled for 9 hours from Denmark. Mabey that's the reason Rick Derringer didn't come out to join in on "Born Under A Bad Sign". What really made my day was meeting up with Dutchies in the afternoon. Henni, Wilma, Andries and Lenny you are a fun lot of people. Hanging with them and PTB after the show was cool. At least this is never the same. You never what will happen. So while my ears are trying to get back to life, i'm getting revved up for next weekend wenn PTB get back to Holland. The party will continue. Rod (somehow made it back ) back home in Germany. |

Hey Ginbels or anyone else-got any info on the Myrtle Beach shows in a couple of weeks? I know you guys said you might be able to get down there for a few shows. I'm going to try to do that as well, but need to know the details so I can make reservations. I know the band isn't getting back to the states until a few days before these dates. Any info would be appreciated. |

morning all, Just getting ready to head off to Crewe for the first gig...four nights in a row...woo-hoo! Looking forward to Cardiff, which was a great gig in November and is a really cool city these days. Also the London gig is in one of my favourite clubs. I saw Dave Edmunds there on Sunday and it was awesome. Sad I can't make Holland next weekend, especially Zaandam. Have a great time guys and maybe I'll see you later in the year. Randal...we're still using good old British pounds here. I haven't seen a Euro yet . And if any of you guys in the US see Dave Lee Roth...tell him to get his ass over to Europe ASAP. We miss him! |

Yes, Rick's instrumental is called "Rhapsody In Red", he's been playing that one in his set in recent years. It's an incredible piece of music that showcases the whole band and shows why he is one of the greatest guitarists out there. I aw him play it live in February and it was awesome! |

Pat Travers in Copenhagen on May 2 was cool. Except for one new song (and one old one skipped), it as exactly the same set as three years ago - and my girlfriend was one of just four or five girls at Pumpehuset (the venue)!! ;^) Rick Derringer was support - another 70s/80s guitar slinger. He's not matured as well as Travers. Derringer did an album with Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert last year, which I wish they'd had for sale at the gig, but his newest album is some sort of religious affair with his wife and kids. He did some of those songs and they sucked. His older stuff ruled and especially the instrumentals were really good. he's quite a colourful player using lots of flagiolettes(?). Then he finished with Hang On Sloopy, which he recorded with The McCoys in 1965 and got a huge hit with. Very pointless. Regardless of the unimaginative setlist I still loved Pat Travers. He's tall, loud, colourful (pink shirt and boots!) and plays excellent powerful guitar rock'n'roll. I guess he could be the thinking man's version of Ted Nugent... Doesn't talk much, doesn't swear - just plays. He did a lot of his best 80s songs which was great. Only new song was Elijah for his six year old son ("he's a very handsome kid - looks just like me!"). ;^) Then for the encore Derringer joined Travers onstage and they ran through a 15-minute version of Born Under A Bad Sign in Travers' usual powerful version. Derringer looked like a timid little lamb while Travers was throwing his hair and legs about. Meanwhile, Derringer's pesky little model of a wife was running all over the stage, right, left, front and centre, taking pictures of the guys. Didn't seem to have much of a clue. Both guys were using the same band. A technically average, but stylewise absolutely crap heavy-handed drummer who was overplaying like his life depended on it (he was doing hi-hat 'fills/solos' during slow blues songs, verses an' all!!) and some bass player or other. The latter was OK, but afterwards there were still guys shouting for Dave LaRue, which was kinda cute. (LaRue was with Travers last time he was in Denmark.) Travers has definitely lowered his standards with this band, who he is 'lending out' to Derringer on this tour. All in all a good guitar night out. Not metal, but solid trio-based power rock. Does anyone here trade live tapes? |

Now that I'm finished putting my Shiva down to rest for the evening... Hey BG, Magoo, Chris and other Stratmagicians: Recently, I contacted the individual responsible for posting here who worked on Jerry Rigg's tobacco sunburst Fender strat. This was the strat in question used on the Boom Boom video that struck BG's curiosity as staying in remarkably good tuning using a standard vintage tremolo bridge. I was given permission by Mikemudd49 to print the following here: This was PART 1 -
Quote:IT DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF BRIDGE AND THE BLOCK , YOU CAN UNSCREW THE BRIDGE PLATE FROM THE BLOCK AND DRILL THE HOLES A LITTLE BIGGER, OR YOU CAN USE A SMALL ROUND FILE WHERE THE STRING TOUCHES THE PLATE. I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BREAKING STRINGS ESPECIALY THE E AND B I DONT USE A PICK AND I PULL THE STRINGS QUITE HIGH OFF THE GIUTAR BODY WITH MY INDEX FINGER. IT SOUNDS SO COOL BUT IT IS VERY HARD ON STRINGS NO MATTER WHAT GAUGE. AS FOR KEEPING IN TUNE THERE'S SO MANY VARIABLES i.e. PLAYING STYLES,TYPE OF BLOCK,SPRING SIZE AND NUMBER, FLOATING, NON FLOATING. ALL MY STRATS HAVE FENDER SIX SCREW TYPE BRIDGES AND VINTAGE TUNERS, BONE NUTS - I USE VASOLINE UNDER EACH STRING AT THE NUT AS WELL AS UNDER STRING TREES, AND SPRAY SILICONE LUBE ON SADDLE, SIX MOUNTING SCREWS, INSIDE BLOCK, AND EVER METAL ON METAL CONNECTION ON THE SPRING ASSEMBLY. MAKE SURE THE STRINGS ARE STRETCHED REALY GOOD, I DONT LIKE TO HAVE MY BIDGE FLOAT CAUSE I BREAK TOO MANY STRINGS AND THAT DEFINETELY WILL CAUSE TUNING PROBLEMS, SO I USE FIVE SPRINGS JUST TIGHT ENOUGH TO PULL BRIDGE FLUSH, I DONT LIKE LOCKING SYSTEMS, ROLLERNUTS OR LOCKING TUNERS. LTUNERS AREN'T BAD BUT I LIKE VINTAGE TUNERS CAUSE THEY WORK GREAT AND MAKE STRING CHANGING EZ. ALL JERRY HAD ON HIS TOBACOO STRAT WAS A GRAFITE NUT. HE WAS HAVING TUNING PROBLEMS AND JUST GOT IT BACK FROM A REPAIR SHOP AND IT STILL WASNT STAYING IN TUNE. HIS TECH ASKED ME HOW COME MY STRATS STAYED IN TUNE WHILST USING THE BAR SO MUCH. SO I SHOWED HIM WHAT I JUST TOLD YOU AND JERRY WAS IN TUNE ALL NITE AND HE DID THANK ME AND ASKED ME WHAT I DID TO IT. HOPE I SHED SOME LIGHT ON SOMETHING FOR YOU TALK TO YOU SOON
Hope 'ya folks find something of interest in it. Keep springing (and lubing) that six-stringer! Part 2 tomorrow. |

Hey Jim- I was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention that. Found in the university area of Seatle after having gone unaccounted for 4 days. I begrungingly think back to the days when their Dirt cd came out as I listened to it repeteadly - very downbeat, melancholy lyrics and atmosphere. I wouldn't normally get into it with that style of lyric-writing. Must have been the sound and synergy of the band. Still... I listen to that music at times. Cantrell has a way of creating the right dark, eerie presence and state of mind that interacted well with the other band members. Cindy- Aren't you in wa? What's the inside scoop out of Seatle, reportedly, saying happened to Staley (lead singer of Alice in Chains)? Ed- Thanks for the post as always. Looks as if I cannot chalk it up to idiotic Netscape which I have had many problems with. I'll attempt to post that quote soon. Thx for the assistance. PT fans ever listened to the esteemed guitarist Robben Ford's version of Born Under a Bad Sign? PT's version is SO much better that I cannot even think of listening to that song without thinking ... PT puts Ford's version to shame. I'm going to have to skip over that one whenever I play that cd. |

They total re-create the 73 Selling England by the Pound tour. They use the orginal 73 slides, as well as orginal style costumes, lighting, instruments & everything. First class show all the way, you'd swear it was a 73 Genesis show with a very trippy Peter Gabriel at the helm. In fact thats my reveiw of the show, "TRIPPY", very, very "TRIPPY". |

Rockpig, thanks for yur thoughts for I to have a spiritual direction and it is also colored by the type of music style that has stirred my soul over my lifetime. Music from the thirties through this decade and music from other centuries, my point being that a lot of these bands you have mentioned stir thoughts and feelings in a deep, provacative way. Especially when enhanced by a songwriters talent for verbal expression. This is why after all these years I am still moved by Pat Travers, and His band. Inspirational Music isn't good/bad it's just inspirational. I hope that today's musicians/songwriters continue strive for this type of influence on the hearts and minds of listeners and performers everywhere such as PT has. Rockpig, you moved me to express myself... Thank you. Ernie.(alteredego) |

Thanks Ginbel, I was beginning to wonder... Good news on that '80 show! Folks, I've heard rough versions of this show and the performance kicks! You're going to love a cleaned up recording of this show, I promise! On another note, since the "Derringer Debate" is at least civil, thanks to Ed's recent changes with log on & password requirements, and the morons have fled, I'd like to play Devil's advocate for both sides of this issue. As BG and English Al (welcome to the site Al!) stated, Rick's accomplishments can not be denied. He's certainly had his share of "all-time classics"! How can any true rocker deny "Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo"??? And although "Hang On Sloopy" hasn't held up quite as well over time, it's still a perennial favorite for many, many people. And his work with both Winter brothers is extremely strong and highly recommended! I first caught Rick on tour in 1976 as he was supporting his newest release at that time simply called "Derringer". It was a tremendously killer band with Vinny Appice on drums, Kenny Aaronson on bass, a new unknown at that time monster guitarist from Louisiana named Danny Johnson, and Rick. They were opening for Aerosmith who was touring to support their "Rocks" release. Also on the bill was Starz supporting their Debut release. This was in the days of "festival seating" and way before mosh pits (what a stupid, stupid trend)and arena chairs, so getting up at the front of the stage was only as hard as being one of the first in line before the doors opened and running like hell to tag your spot at the front. I remember enjoying the Starz set somewhat, but when Rick & the boys came out, they took things to such a higher level and played with an intensity that pars on the level of Pat's "Go For What You Know" release. They were that good! Bonechilling. They were tight, focused, and hellbent on winning over the Aerosmith crowd (which they accomplished). Then Aerosmith came out, and after 4 songs I made a decision to leave early because they just sucked! Which was a major disappointment, because up to that point I was a huge fan. "Get Your Wings" and "Toys In The Attic" were benchmark albums back in those days, but the heavy drug haze was starting to take it's toll on Aerosmith and they sounded sloppy, uninspired and the house mix was as muddy as the Mississippi River. As a kid, it was my first major disappointment at a rock show, and it crushed me! Bottom line to that story is that Derringer absolutely dominated that tour like nobody's business. To this day, his set that night remains one of my all time favorites. I was also surprised at how small Rick was as he made such a big noise. He looked like a little fresh scrubbed jr. high schooler! Had Rick been able to somehow capture that energy on the studio release, the "Derringer" album would have been a HUGE success instead of the "lost classic" that it has become. Years passed by, and then Rick played at a neighborhood bar by my house that booked touring bands. This was around '89 or so. I was doing a lot of concert photography for the club, so it wasn't unusual for me to hit the soundchecks and see what kind of lighting the band would be using, talk to the tour managers about details, talk to a few band members and get a general feel for what the band was going to be like as humans instead of rockstars. Rick had just gotten his flamejob tatoo on his picking hand and was very congenial and was showing it to people. I'm not really into tatoos, but it looked very cool, I thought. He was a very nice fellow. But two things really struck me as odd that day. Rick had really put on the weight and looked extremely haggard. A short time later I understood why. It was around 1:30 in the afternoon, and Rick was nursing about his 7th stiff drink of the day! I remember thinking..."Hope he doesn't pass out and the show gets cancelled!". I still had great memories of the earlier tour show in '76 and had high expectations. Unfortunately Rick at this point had deteriorated to the level that Aerosmith was on that early tour. That evening's show turned out as expected, and was a huge letdown. I don't think Rick ever stopped drinking that day, and continued to drink throughout the set and probably well into the night! I only mention this because this lifestyle was probably a big contributing factor in Rick's current religious leanings. I'm sure had he carried on like he did (is this sounding like anyone else we know?) he would be dead by now. I don't know Rick's current family situation, and it's certainly none of my or anybody's business, but I'd guess that he's finally cleaned out for a few years, has gotten a caring family with kids, and he's probably happier now for the first time in a long time. So give the kid a break.... Now, for the other side of the issue........Rock & roll music (not jazz or pop) is by nature supposed to be, or originally was meant to be a rebellious alternative to the conservative, conformist attitudes of society. That's why your parents hated it. It was meant to be loud, rude, shocking, defiant and in your face. There's a valid reason for the phrase "sex, drugs & rock n' roll"! Can you say "Snortin' Whiskey, & Drinkin' Cocaine"?????? That's what made bands of the late 60's and throughout the 70's so standout (aside from the obvious musical originality and abilities). Where would music be today without the influence of Jim Morrison, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Black Sabbath, Pat Travers(of course!)and the likes if they had been safe and conforming and "followed the rules" expected from "normal" society? We'd be forever forced to put up with the likes of Pat Boone (and his daughter Debbie!), Frankie Avalon, Captain & Tennille, and the endless drivel that still gets released to this very day by corporations. Who would YOU rather listen to? Getting back to Rick, my point is that there really isn't room for preaching at a proper rock show. It's more about letting off the pent up anger and frustration that everyday life has thrown at you since the LAST rock show you attended when you released that energy. (That's probably why young kids today have their mosh pits. The drawback to that is, they're not paying attention to the music, and they're making it impossible for those that ARE there for the music to enjoy watching the show. But that's a whole 'nother debate.) A rock show is about loud guitars, bass & drums, great musicianship, putting on a show and feeling that groove thang. You want a religous experience, get thine own self to church. Or maybe a Jeff Beck show! Ha! But that's a different kind of religion! Rick is absolutely entitled to his religious rebirth, and I'd be first in line to back him up on the issue. But don't expect to take that to a rock show at a club where people are knocking back a few pints (especially in Europe and the UK!)and are looking to rock out and think it's going to win over a crowd! Save that for a more appropriate venue. If Rick is uncomfortable with his past (and he has no reason to be...we're all human and make mistakes and learn) he might consider not playing in clubs and stick to venues more suited to his religious leanings, such as the Christian Rock festivals that are so popular in the Midwest. I'm not saying that rock musicians can not have religion and must act in a depraved manner to be good or successful, I'm only stating that to throw religion at the fans is not really fair to the paying public that is expecting a ROCK SHOW. If you must, have your prayer session while you're backstage, before or after the show, but on stage let it go and give your fans what they're craving. Otherwise, you won't even have anybody at your next show in that town to throw your religion at! They'll be at another show across town! I'm aware of some of the current bands that mention their religious beliefs in press kits and interviews, but even those bands choose to not bring it up on stage with them. About the only exception to that was Stryper years ago, and how long did that last and where are they now? They lasted only until the curiosity and novelty wore off. Hope I haven't offended anybody here with these views. I know from chatting with some of you "PTB family members" that you have strong religious views and I respect you for that. I have my own spiritual ideas as well and hope you'll respect mine in the same manner, but when I want to go rock out, I don't want to be preached to....and I don't want somebody's wife or girlfriend running around ON STAGE taking pictures distracting from the performance (unless she's cute & topless!). She'd better be contributing to the music either by singing or playing an instrument. You wanna take pictures? Get in the pit with everybody else or stay outta the way on the side of the stage behind the speakers..... I'm sure I'll catch some heat, and that's cool, but please let's keep it civil. I'm only making a discussion here, not condemning anyone. I still love most of Rick's contributions and think he's done some tremendous work over the years. And PTB???? Well, they're still the KING! |

Hey y'all! Sorry we missed the chat Cindy. We are so busy! Ed... THANK YOU!!!! WOW!! I am sending you a big fat package on Monday(normal shipping)lol! I guess you must get that discount! Glad the boys are kickin' butt over seas. They will once again have CDs available at the shows, including the new Makin' Magic CD, and a new 1980 live CD from Baltimore that is just killer. Some of you may be familiar with that show already. We did some work with what was already great sound and then packaged it with some art. It's basically Black Pearl Live! Just nice to be able to offer the fans something new. Well back to it! and like Strat says.. PT IS king!! by the way Strat I did get your email and I'll call you Sunday. |

Hey Ed, I have the PT rig info you're searching for. I'll get it out to you later today. Sounds like the Euro tour is doing just what I'd hoped it would do, and that's kicking everybody's ass. Great to hear that the fan response is so big. Sweet justification for Pat, and a BIG LOSS for Polydork! Isn't it just a bit ironic that Pat is still around, and Polydor is not??? And as always...PTB is king! |

Hi guys and gals My first time here. I caught the Crewe show, first one since School of Hard Knocks. He was just utterly fabulous - just like I remember him from the early shows in the 70's. It was SO good to see him play like that again. It rolled back the years for me. My fave was The Pain - simply scorching - everything that Gary Moore would like to be, good as he is. Why are people here so picky about the band and Derringer? Sure, Rick isnt Mars Cowling, but who the hell is? Eric may not be the best drummer on earth, but the overall effect was a fantastic gig, so what else matters? As regards Derringer, its always hard when you're a support act peddling new material, but you have to treat it with respect and an open mind. I still enjoyed it and thought he played great. Ease up, go to enjoy the show and let the hours just speed by. Finally, by a twist of good fortune I may be able to catch the Daytona Beach show. Does anyone here know if I need to book in advance for a show like that one? Any help would be much appreciated. Al |

Hello everyone out there in PT Land! Just wanted to drop a note to Pat Yerigan, check out the following website: http://www.waterfrontfestival.org/pages/entertainment.html I, unfortunately, will not be there because I have tickets to a Marshall Tucker/Southern Rock Allstars concert in West VA the same day, but this should give you some info, if you can navigate the website. Good luck and enjoy. Also, you should know that it's not a "Pat Travers Band" show, but a "Voices of Classic Rock Show" (more info at www.rockforever.com). I'm sure they'll do a few PT tunes, but also stuff from the other members' bands as well. Hope this helps. Getting psyched for New Year's Eve...still waiting for a post from gREG or someone about the timing, stage, location, etc. (Bruce, feel free to respond if you have the time and the inclination, I understand dat you da man). Hope my PT buddies are all rockin' out, I've got a music-filled summer coming up, hope to make the chat someday soon to talk to y'all, though I have band practice on Tuesday nites (argh!) Peace Carl P.S. Eric...Rasmus Heide is obviously jealous of your clear proficiency in the percussion section, I think you RAWK! (you too Rico!) |

Hey BG, I agree Derringer is a great player and influence. I have seen him before. But i must say this time around i got the feeling he wasn't realy into it. It's not slamming anybody. On my part a bit of a disappointment. I do remember him kicking ass. Maybe it has to do with Rick and Eric not being 100 % comfortable with the set. They had to concentrate on the songs. This could effect RD and limit him to the rehearsed material. PT just had a lot more energy. Now it's time for round two of the PTB party! Will be on my way to Holland in about 3 hours. Are you Dutchies ready? I am! Rod |

I can't believe all of the Rick Derringer reviews here (particularly Rasmus)! This guy is a living legend in the guitar world and you people are slamming him. He was a huge influence on me when I started playing guitar in the 60's. Have any of you heard the "Johnny Winter And Live" record that came out in '71? Or Edgar Winter's White Trash Roadwork album? Derringer smokes on both records. He's a great singer and writer as well. Rasmus said that Derringer looked meek on stage next to Pat Travers - get real. Derringer has great stage presence and doesn't have to take a back seat to anybody. Also, if he wants to play something of a religious nature, so what? Apparently he has a loving wife and family - more power to him. Rasmus also said that his performing "Hang On Sloopy" was pointless. This tune was one of the biggest hits of the 60's and will continue to get airplay into infinity. Compare his track record against Pat's. You're an idiot, Rasmus, with a capital "I". |

Oh my head. I've just returned from last nights gig in Dudley and all I can say is ...that was the best performance from PT I have ever witnessed. Last night Pat moved me to a higher plane, I saw things in him and heard things in his music that I've never seen/heard. His performance defied that of a nearly 50 year old. Rick and Eric also contributed with very fine performances. Great venue, good crowd, my only gripe...no 'Medley'. But the band were so good I didn't really mind. Thanks guys for the tour, see you next time. |

I have seen PT and the boys three times now in London, and they just get better and better. Its worth the ticket price alone to watch Eric and Rick ! How can any body on here say Eric tries to hard !! They dont come much better than these guys. Rick Derringer was ok. The first 2 songs being average, and then some religious effort made it worse. But after that he did a fantastic instrumental which showed he still had it. As for PT what else can i say that has not already been said on here ? I used to listen to this guy when i was at school 20 years ago !! I never thought i would end up at his feet kickin ass !! Does any one have any EX live recordings from this or last years tour ? I have a fantastic video of last Novembers Boarderline club if you wish to trade ? Life in London is great when Pats here . |

Well....the London gig was AWESOME!! The place was packed. Even more people than Dave Edmunds last weekend, which surprised me a little, given that DE hasn't played here for 12 years. The Jazz Cafe is a great club, really cool and the crowd were really into it. You should have heard the roar that went up at the start of Stevie. Anyone else going to Dudley? Gill, Crewe gig was very good, PTB were in excellant form and really played to the crowd. Good venue also. Best song of the night for me was 'Whipping Post', that song really rocks and the guys seem to really enjoy playing it. I agree with you about Rick Derringer, he starts well but I lost interest after about 10 minutes. As for our Danish friends' swipe at Eric, I'm still trying to think about Denmarks contribution to popular music.....still thinking..... |

Two British gigs down...two to go. Crewe was a great gig. The band are in sh*t hot form. Same set as the Dutch gig but the crowd was so loud we got an extra encore.Cardiff was a little quieter but tonight should be special. Life In London always sounds better in it's home town! I have to say I'm not enjoying Rick Derringer much. He starts the set with something that sounds like Baba O'Reilly and it's downhill after that...his band is great though! |

Hey BG- The Bogner is working out great! I replaced the OEM tube in the phase position with the tube in question and an RCA blackplate in V1, V2 and it definately hit the spot - channel 1 is even a bit nicer IMO. This amp sounds soooo good at bedroom volumes it almost even amazes me. Ever since I have been playing through it, my Hotplate has been out of commission and relegated to a position above the amp. I am always trying to tweak things to squeeze the most out of anything I play through. You should have heard those tubes through that Tubester... I recently received my second shipping of them the other day and they test as good as the first shipment! Stunning. Next will be to place them in my VHT power amp. If you need help in the tube department I will be more than willing to be of assistance if I can. Steve Z- I saw your buds, Rocks, a couple weeks ago. Good band - they like . I told Jay you said to say hi. Jay mentioned something about swansong with Robert Plant and a couple other singers I cannot remember. He gave you a nice compliment, "Steve is a great guitarist." |

Pat's music is a drummer's dream. Lots of freedom and fun to play. That's exactly what Kevin Neal told me once. I personally enjoy what Rick and Eric bring to the table. The things that Rasmus Heide didn't like about Eric are the things that I love. He fills in the gaps nicely on the slower numbers and plays his ass off of the funkier/rocking songs. |

Gotta disagree with Rasmus, I think Eric & Rick do a great job with PT's tunes! Dave LaRue is world renowned, for his work with Steve Morse, and is an excellent bass player too. But I never felt anything was lacking in Rick's playing; he puts his heart & soul into it! And Eric overplaying? I kind of think that goes with the territory for Pat's music, going back to Nico McBrain & Tommy Aldridge! But Rasmus, you did say you enjoyed Pat's set overall, so that's good! I've enjoyed your Deep Purple reviews on the Highway Star; I used to do a Deep Purple tribute band called Fireball (www.tmb.com/fireball) Sorry I missed the chat last night; will try to make the next one! There's no point propagating comments like that . . . Many of us have seen Pat with other lineups, and they were what they were but we move on. Are we still griping about Charlie Watts not being in the Stones? Nope. About Ace and Peter Criss getting aced from KISS? Not really. And what about all the personnel changes Deep Purple went through? Do we lament that? Nope. So my point is that this is Pat's band. He chose Rick and Eric, so that's that. I know I speak for many when I say that we LIKE the current lineup, because we think this band kicks ass and takes names. Not to mention the fact that it's PAT'S BAND!! duh Who are we to second guess someone who has given us so much? Do we know better than the master himself? Allow me to answer that -- NO, we DON'T. Unless I missed a news flash, I've never heard of YOUR band -- enough said. I'll end this before I cross the line, but this is an open message to the boys -- you fellas are welcome in my backyard ANY TIME! hahahaha Relax and enjoy the show -- you have to buy a ticket to get in! |

Private emails welcome. Does anyone here trade live tapes? |

No need to discuss the onboard entertainment. Just imagine the first two rows in Tempe all die hard PTB fans from all over the world. That would be a way to end and start a new year. Just got home after the tour...sigh...all over for another year. Dudley was another stunning gig. A packed club and a great end to the UK leg of the tour. Saturday I was going to Bristol to visit my mum and I spent most of the day trying to work out a way to get to the Zandaam show. I couldn't get to the airport in time. If I'd had my passport with me I could maybe have gotten a flight out of Bristol, but stupidly I left it at home. Next time. New Years Eve is more tempting than ever...maybe I'll see you all there. The band will probably be mid-Atlantic by now. Hope you get home safely guys...come back soon. I love you all! |

Still dazed!!!! The last two days have been monster. I saw the show a week ago and posted my opinion. If i didn't no better, i would say they where two different worlds. Saturday Silvolde: A very hot stuffy place with only about 70 people. Partly due to the fact the show was moved into the middle of nowhere. Huge surprise for me was the energy and looseness of Rick Derringer. It was not compareable to last week. He did some licks and changes in the tunes and the band followed with ease. That supports my short rehearsal theory. They really rocked the house. Somehow i got the impression Pat felt he had to top that. Well he took it up notch as well. And new lines from Pat. And as in the UK the medley was out and Fortunate Son from CCR in. To bad Erics vocals didn't really come out good, hard to hear him. No encores and RD didn't show up for Born Under A Bad Sign again. All in all. A GREAT SHOW from both! Sunday the final show of the tour: I wouldn't have believed anyone who would have told me it can be raised another five notches, but these guys did. Excellent venue and good crowd. RD put everything he had into this one. He was playing around freely and totaly relying on the band to keep up. This felt so good. Extended versions of most of the tunes throwing unbelievable riffs at you. Hats off and a big bow. I was getting scared PT wouldn't go down so smooth after that. Well needless to say, out came the best PTB i have witnessed. They tore the stage up. I haven't seen Pat move to the right side of the stage for a long time. He was flying all over the stage. The band didn't drop a beat and where able to move to the higher ground. I didn't expect it to happen, but RD came out for the encore. They went into Born Under A Bad Sign and added on what identified as Crossroads. RD didn't sing because they had already taken his mike from stage. I couldn't get the few vocals that Pat through in. It was cooler just to watch these guys exchanging riffs in that tune. Maestros at work. I'm glad i was there and hope they didn't leave everything in Europe. Hope you got back safely. I'll be there next time again and again and .... THANKS!!! PS. I really don't care what one believes in. It's fine to me. RD's music still rocks. If he wants to have his wife on stage fine. I'm there for the music. It didn't influence what i heard. PS.PS. Thanks Rick and Eric for making it possible for two of the best to showcase their talent. And keep on overplaying please. Blown out, dazed and smiling Rod back in Germany |

Re the blues jam at Crewe...perhaps it should be called 'Cruise Blues'?. And for the record, PT dropped 'Medley' at the Dudley gig on Friday, and replaced it with Creedance's 'Fortunate Son', featuring Eric on vocals. Was this a one off, or a regular change in the set? |

Brother Rockpig You witnessed Rick's rise and fall and now apparent rise again, so have idea the shape he was in. He found something to set him right. He realizes what people are doing around him at the places he plays at and that some of them may have a similar problems. Some are not there just to rock out, some are there looking for answers at the bottom of the glass. He found something that helped him, maybe he hopes to help someone else from taking the same ride. He's not going to find them at the Christian Rock fests...he is going to find them where he plays. Same reason Jesus didn't hang out with the religious, but the ones who needed help. my 2 cents |

Oh boy it's sunday and i feel religiously spiritual, woop de doo holy father. Ok here is a little funny tale from the past. My neice back in Scotland when she was 2yrs old(now in her 20's)opened the door to the house once after hearing someone knocking at it. I was home with my eldest brother and his kid,she opens the door and there are 2 clean cut guys standing there with folders and paraphanalia. They said they were jehova witness's, she went down the hallway and into the living room to tell her father this. He said something to her but i could'nt hear it. She then left the room and went back down the hallway towards the front door, pulled it wide and stared up at the 2 men there, and said, "my daddy says to f#@k off and dont ever come back here". She then slowly closed the door on the 2 completely stunned guys and at this point i just lost it and laughed hard for about 5mins or so. It was precious. Hey strat did i ever tell you of my spiritual leanings. Kinda happens after a dozen drinks when i'm more than 45degrees over on the bar.(lol) Last night i was watching Austin City Limits and was blessed with a (an old one mind you)performance by the late great SRV. I've always loved Stevies music (who did'nt) but never seen the man live in the day or seen more than a cpl mins footage on tv, so this was a great gift to me to actually see a live show performance. We all know what a great guitar player he was but when you actually see him play it just blows you away beyond imagination. I'm still kicking myself for not seeing him when i had a chance. FYI i beleive the show i seen last night will be repeated next saturday night, they tend to show 2 performances. One at 9-10pm and one from 11-12pm. The weekly repeat of SRV will be the later one next week, but just check your guide or set the vcr to record them both, you dont wanna miss this. Later folks, gotta go, my tummy sounds like rolling thunder. Breakfast is calling. Ian. |

Rockpig: You made several excellent points. Speaking of looking haggard, while touring with Firefall in the eighties, we played a venue called the Chestnut Cabaret in Philadelphia. Evidently Johnny Winter had played there the night before. As I entered the elevator to the hotel, Johnny was standing right there. I didn't recognize him right away - that's haggard! In any event he too was a huge influence on me as a player. |

Many many thanks to John 'PTB Stalker' Howe for the excellent Daytona advice, that could save me a world of trouble, and just what I needed. fortunately my accommodation is in Orlando, but it will mean travelling to and from the show on the same night - little or no beer!!! By the way your cold beer is just fine by me - I hope to get through several gallons in the fortnight I'm there. Just one last important piece needed - is the venue likely to sell out before the night?Do I need to ticket in advance? any thoughts valued. Finally I gather from the post-gig chat at Crewe that Mars Cowling no longer plays. That is like having a limb removed. He remains one of the greatest bass players I've ever seen play live - a real driving force behind the PTB sound whenever he's been in the band and to me an absolute 'Monster of the Deep'. I wish him well in his present career and thank him for the education. Al |

Rockin Rod: Two guitars wouldn't work without proper rehearsals - two of anything wouldn't work. But if rehearsals would have been possible with Pat and Rick, then it would have been great. When you have a trio of guitar, bass, and drums - there's going to be a hole (however minute)when Pat takes a solo. It doen't matter how great the player is -the rhythm guitar drops out when a solo is executed. This is what I meant when the sound would have been fuller if Derringer had known Pat's material and vice versa. I'm glad Rick's wife is singing with him - when people were ripping the late Linda McCartney (a great human being)do you think Paul cared? No. |

Hey EnglishAl, You mentioned that you might be able to make it to the PTB show in Daytona, Florida on July 5th. You might want to consider booking a room in Orlando Florida, PT`s hometown to, because there`s a big stock car race in Daytona on the 6th and I`m pretty sure that every motel room, camp ground, and park bench will be sold out, if there not already. If you are lucky enough to find a place to stay in Daytona, you`ll pay a premium price for it! Daytona will be packed with race fans! Orlando is about an hour or so drive from Daytona. Orlando will be busy also because it will be a 4 day national holiday/weekend, so don`t wait to long before finalizing your travel plans. I hope to see ya at the show. I`ll buy ya beer, though we serve our beer cold over here! Hey rockin rod, who kissed who while on stage? I got to meet Edgar Winter the other weekend in Palm Beach and spent about 15 or so minutes with him backstage after a show. He`s a very intelligent and friendly guy! He asked about PT and RD, and I told him that they were both very happy and healthy, and were over in Europe together for about a month doing shows. He smiled and told me to tell PT & RD, if I see them anytime soon, that he said "Hi" and that they should keep in touch with him more often. Well, that`s all the jive I`ve got for now. S`Later, John "PTB stalker" Howe |

BG, About the two guitar approach. I don't believe it would have worked. I think it would have restricted both in their playing. It's tough to share and trade of licks all the time. During Born Under A Bad Sign Pat actually played what he always plays. Rick just jammed in some jazzy rythems and had a couple of bars to solo. Pat's guitar dominated. Rick was very laid back. He came out more and clearer on the second encore with the classic 12 bar trade off schemes. This would hint that both the entire show would not have worked out so well. RD's wife would not have had the space to do her thing either. ;-) Ricks wife danced and sang harmony vocals. I guess it's not everyone's taste. Reactions did differ. Most found it very entertaining. But be assured they did no more than kiss on stage. |

Glad everyone has been enjoying the the shows. Too bad some people are bashing Rick. I think it's a great package. You can't compare the two, they're both great and each has their own style. Sometimes artists will have a bad show or pick songs you don't want to hear. I've seen Pat suck, I've seen Rick suck but most of the time they they kicked royal ass on stage and will always remain two of my favorite guitar players who have great chops and play with conviction. I would love to see Pat & Rick tour the US this summer. |

Since Pat went to Europe as a trio and Rick Derringer was using Pat's band as a warmup act, why didn't they combine forces from the get go? There would have been two great players and singers and each could have showcased their catalog together. I know Pat is already doing this with the Voices Of Classic Rock, but I would think since the band was up there the whole time anyway, why not make it even better for both with a two guitar approach (not just for the encore)? Just my opinion. I laughed hysterically upon reading about his wife running all over the stage taking pictures. At least it didn't top Yoko lying in a bed right next to John Lennon as the Beatles were recording Abbey Road. |

The sound quality is excellent. This is also in the process of being put on DVD. We figured some of you might not want it on DVD, so we are offering the tape earlier. This is not a cheesy dub of a show and it comes with a regular professional case, excellent quality tape, and artwork. The price is $25.00 and shipping is $5.00. Randal...that's cool you got to chat with Gene and Paul. They were fav's of mine as well (and a whole ARMY of kids). Played hours of air-guitar to Alive w/ my cousins (I was ACE). Was Gene as sharp as he appears in interviews? The man appears to have quite the grip on the KISS empire and definitely knows how to bring KISS to market because, let's face it, these guys aren't musical giants. What I really liked about the music (and still do) is the raw basic energy of it, especially the first 4 albums. |

Hé Cindy! If I do understand it well; if the eastern time is 12.00 (noon), then it will be here 6 hours later? That's allright for us! Also 3 hours later will not be a problem, if you don't want to get up early, cause it's weekend after all. This sunday we won't be able to join the chat, cause we will go to a gig of Leslie West with Mountain. If everything will go according plan. But saturday we can! So we'll have to wait and see what people are more interested in this weekend chat. CULATER ALLIGATOR. PTB ROXX!!!! Andries and Wilma. |

English all -- no swipes from me! I was a huge KISS fan until right around the solo albums. Met the boys without their makeup at the Edgewater in Seattle -- we were staying there because of the reputation as a band hotel -- and talked with Gene and Paul at length. VERY COOL in the days when NO ONE (sic) had seen them without kabuki . . . Chad -- just type in and it'll pop up I also want to know what a box of beer is. gREG knows, but the box gets pretty soggy so you have to drink really fast as has been said. Party at gREG's NYE with PTB! Dunno about Sunday, Cindy, as I don't have internet access at home (three blocks from the office where I have 10 computers online), but if by chance I come in then I'll come on - Randal Simmons |

Hey Strat! Nice to hear from you. I'm still imagining Rick Derringer's wife running around the stage. This cracks me up because it seems like she was oblivious to the gig at hand from an audience point of view. Then a later post stated that she was singing backup on Rick's set. How could she have been doing both? Oh well, that's rock n roll. The minute I read that I was envisioning Yoko, Linda, etc. and I just couldn't stop laughing. As always, I agree with you, if she's contributing, throw her in the mix. If not, ..... I think Linda McCartney was a great human being, she just couldn't sing. But she was better than Yoko. Whatever an electrical shock treatment feels like, that's akin to a Yoko vocal performance. Speaking of Paul, I paid dearly for 2 front row tickets for the McCartney show this Fri. night ($1300 per ticket)but my wife and I absolutely have to see this. I doubt he'll tour again and the fact that he was a Beatle is worth every penny. As per your instructions, I didn't contact you know who as of yet. I'm hoping this eventually happens. I'm gigging alot in the Orlando and Tampa area and one of these days I'll be able to catch up on a Bobby Friss gig. Jeff Beck? Cool. Can't wait to receive the info. In the early seventies I purchased a paisley Kustom "Magic Bag" from one of his roadies when he was in town. You would wear it like a shoulder bag - this was before the Heil talk box made famous by Peter Frampton. Jeff Beck is certainly one out of a million - just like you know who! My email is on the way. Thanks |

Hey BG, Any luck contacting you-know-who for your recording gig? I'm still bending his ear about it. Regarding Paul and Linda....you think Paul enjoyed Yoko in the studio and dispensing advice? Ha! I don't think so! As I said before, I've got no probs if the gal is up there contributing to the music. That's not the issue. Just don't be prancing around on stage distracting from the performance just to take pictures. Get in the pit like everybody else. If you still have my email addy, drop me a line. Saw a pretty good little show Friday night! Caught a lot of s**t from the wife due to staying out so late! I tried to leave, but John Nitzinger told me, "Hell! She can only kill you once!" I couldn't leave after that! I saw John Nitzinger at a tiny little club in East Fort Worth called Stumpy's. We pulled up and there were about 15-20 big, ole' Hogs out front! http://www.stumpysbluesbar.com/10a.gif We knew we were in for a good one then! To explain the comment he made to me, I shouted out a request for an old one, from back in '78/'79. He told me that song wasn't first set material. I told him I had to leave due to the fact my wife was going to kill me if I stayed out late! That's when he gave me his reply! I told him I couldn't leave now that he had worked me into the show! If anyone remembers, or doesn't know, or can't remember, John Nitzinger is a Fort Worth boy. He played guitar and wrote, I think all, of the songs on the Bloodrock album except for the hit, DOA. He also played with Alice Cooper for a while. I know his solo stuff, mostly an album called "Live Better Electrically". I had a killer crush on this girl when I was 17 and she was 19. I didn't get the girl, but she turned me on to Nitzinger! He can play a guitar. Nothing extraordinary, nowhere close to Travers, but just a good, raunchy, bluesy, kick your teeth in rock guitar sound. I bought a cd that has some of his more popular tracks from 1969 up until 1999. He has three new songs on it, one of which is about his recovery from drug and alcohol addiction called Change. A really good tune. I think he is serious about quitting this time. I hope so for everyone who wants to kick a bad habit. I talked to 4-5 guys there, all older than me, most of them much older! I mentioned Pat and they all know of him and like him. I mention this because Nitzinger is very much in the Travers vein of music. No comparison, just similar tastes/attitudes/styles etc. Funny, the first person I spoke to was the owner of the bar, Jeff. He said he would be interested in talking to someone about booking Pat and The Boys for a show. I told him I would do what I could. His website is http://www.stumpysbluesbar.com/ if Eric or Rick see this and are interested in coming to Texas!!! Nudge, nudge! Wink, wink!! I apologize for all the non-Travers talk, but I worked him in the conversation! If I hadn't of gone to this juke-joint straight from work, I would have had my PT2K shirt on! Thanks Bruce!! Later...Jim PS - If anyone is interested, email me regarding some of the tunes from the cd. jbeseau@yahoo.com And one more thing....PTROXX!! |

Just took a road trip to Portland to see Garbage on Saturday night at the Roseland Theatre (good show by the way) and this is one of those clubs that has live photos of all the acts that have played there in the past. Of course I took the time between the opening act and Garbage to search and see if I could find a shot of ol' PT. I just had the feeling there was one somewhere. After about 5 minutes of looking, there he was, looking like it was taken around '84 or so. He was wearing white pants and a pink jacket and rocking out on his Melody Maker. Very cool, I thought. If you're ever in Portland and you go by the club, you can see the picture from the sidewalk outside. Since it was a roadtrip, here's what I had rockin' in the car....PTB "Live! Go For What You Know", Alice In Chains "Dirt", a Jeff Beck direct soundboard boot from the "Guitar Shop" tour, Garbage "Debut", and Dolls Head "Frozen Charlotte", which sounds a lot like Garbage or Curve. On the way home it was another set of discs, but I won't bore you with those. Mostly wanted to tell everyone about the PT picture at the club. Everyone have a safe and rockin' Memorial Day, and remember what the holiday actually means. Here's my big SALUTE to all the boys who've kept our freedom intact! And as always...PTB is KING! |

Ed, not sure if I will be making the the Darrington show in august yet, will have to see as it gets closer. If you make that gig, it is an excellent place for an outdoor concert. That was the first place I seen Rick and Eric with Pat Aug. 2000 they have a beer garden at the top of the hill, sucks you have to stay there to drink though. But I am sure if you are camping there and have your "cooler" full of "pop" shouldn't be a problem, or run over to your campsite and refill your "pop" lol lol, they had a lot of security too there, so just have to be careful. and hey I do make it I will be "heading out to the highway" "out in the cold", "beaking the law" cause "some heads are gonna roll", "you've got another thing coming" cause we won't have no "parental guidance"!!!!!! |

Hey Jim, right now my favorite Trout disc is Go The Distance followed closely by Livin Every Day. Trout really makes his guitar cry on Love So Deep from Go The Distance. There really isn't a bad tune on that disc. Another good Trout disc is Live Trout, recorded in March 2000 at the Tampa Blues Fest. Trout was voted guitarist of the year for 2001 at the LA music awards and Go The Distance was voted independent rock album of the year. For more info, check out walterttout.com. If you are looking to purchase Trout discs, order online as many of his releases are imports. For whatever reason, he has yet to really catch on in the states. Ok, sorry for blathering on about Walter Trout. We all know who is King. I now have 3 favorite guitar players. Travers, Trower, and Trout. |
