BG-

I have one of my Marshall's up for sale currently and will sell my other once the Bogner arrives. Let's just say I've been a loyal Marshall user for years...anyways...Marshalls out Bogner in! Revered down in Florida for a good reason, bud. Reinhold's got a good thing going on with those amps. If his amps are as reliable as other reports I've read and as good as their customer support, then they are worth their weight in gold. I took my Marshall to A/B the two. Started off running the Marshall FULLY wound then switched the cables (Monster Studio Pro 1000) to the Bogner nearly fully wound and never went back to the Marshall for the rest of the audition!

Carl, consider yer room reserved! 3 shows....SWEET! Steve, ya'll still going to Tuscon? Sux bout Montrose gig. Say, how was Eric on vocals? The dude belts em' out!!! He was awesome at Camp Hieni!! Maybe Pat can play the Isreal/palistinian border and bring these peeps together. Imagine all of them standing together....holding hands.....the hatred gone.....and singing "Snortin' Whiskey" together. Brings a tear to my eye. g

Hey 50MkII:
How'd you like the amp compared to your Marshalls?
These Bogners are revered down here in Florida.

Hey Strat & BG -

Went this last weekend to the bay area to audition Bogner amps. Got the chance to really open the amp up. End result: I'm selling both of my Marshall's and converting to the Bogner!... 'nuff said?! Do not want to take up the space here to go into the details so post me if you like.

Greetings all PT fans! This is my first post, but have been a long time PT fanatic!

Does anyone out there know why Pat never gets too far up the east coast?? I'm in the Philly area, which I feel has several PT friendly venues. Heck, if the guy goes to Holland, you'd think playing Philly or NYC would be a cake walk.

I guess I'm gonna have to plan a trip to the sunshine state soon.

Rock on!!

Carl, wow, 3 shows, how cool is THAT?! The crowd should ALWAYS be appreciative of the PTB!

One of the things that makes Pat such a joy to watch, is how he can't help but give his all, no matter what size the crowd is. I've seen him play for thousands, and I've seen him play for less than a hundred, and he has risen to the occasion each and every time. Truly a star!

Hey Carl, did you get to catch Dream Theater this tour? They did an amazing show here in LA.

Was looking forward to sharing the bill with Montrose, but unfortunately, he has canceled his tour for now.

Cheers all, and Happy Belated, Rick!

Cheers!
Steve

As always...

Hey everybody! Survived FL and THREE (count 'em, three) PT shows, 2 with Rick and Eric and 1 with the talented (but not as good as Rick and Eric) Rex Rogers Band, got to meet and party with Rich and Nancy and John Howe and Mitch and Kim and some of their friends/relatives, had a blast! PTB rocked Universal...just too bad most of the audience wasn't sufficiently appreciative, but there were a few hardcore fans there for sure. Always a pleasure to see the boys rockin! Hello to Cindy, Randal, gREG, Bette (who I understand we missed by a day at Universal), Chad, Steve, Darren and everyone else. Hope all of ya are doing well!

Peace

Carl

P.S. The "mystery" song in the Universal set is "Iko-Iko", some New Orleans song or something.

P.P.S. We volunteered to get "bumped" on our flight to Florida and each got a $300 travel voucher....Phoenix NYE looking like a good possibility...save us a bed gREG! LOL

Just wanted to pop my head in and see what's happening in the PT world. Thanks Chad, back atcha!

gREG, it's lookin good that my Zep band will be playing in Tucson June 8; ya up for a road trip? I'll buy ya one!

I've got a reunion gig of my Deep Purple tribute, opening for Montrose here in SoCal at Paladino's, in the beautiful San Fernando Valley May 3. And I won't even tell y'all how much he's makin!

Now we gotta get PT back on the west coast so I can swing an opener for that!

Sounds like everyone is digging the shows out in Florida, wish I could make it out there. Best of luck to PT, Eric & Rick on gettin the new album out!

Cheers all!

Walter,

As I stated in a post earlier this month. I'm not certain what the current status is with Blues Bureau. I do know that they have asked Pat to continue recording with them.

Hopefully Pat will continue to churn out more of his unique style of blues classics with Blues Bureau and ALSO get a KILLER deal on some of his newer stuff.

Lord know he deserves it. And ya gotta give him credit for holding out. The songs that Pat has been marketing around are BIG TIME. Crash and Burn/Black Pearl BIG TIME in my opinion. Awesome stuff. Pure PT...and it doesn't get any better than that!

I met this guy Blu Holly (sp?) at the BYRDS concert at the Reno Hilton - he was a real down to earth guy - his wife was a knockout. If I were to judge a book by its' cover I'd say that what ever problems he had he seems to be pretty mellow and cool. Very knowledged about PT and Montrose that is afact jack. - I'm new to your site, but a regular on Ronnieland.com. From some of your posts I'd say you read this guy wrong - just an opinion. Yo Greg, you like Saxon? Check out their new cd, 'Killing Ground'! It rocks!
They come to America too, April 5 till April 14. Look at their site, www.saxon747.com, and you can see where they come. Their show is worth the money, cause a 2-hour gig means nothing for them!
They really enjoy playing for a mad crowd, so you would fit in there too, LOL.
And about Walter Trout, he comes twice a year to Holland, and of course we go to his gig every time. And he never dissapoints you, (just like Pat and his good guy's!), alway's rocking and 'talking' with his old guitar. His guitar is one year younger than me, guess how old I am. (Wilma).

Hey Darrin - I'm gonna check out that site. It'll be a kick seeing the band there. Where do you guys stay? Cindy? What's the scoop? I wanna book a room right in town if it's not too late.

gREG for President? He between him and Monica (Lewinski, for fear of other dumb-assed interpretations), they'd never fit under the desk!

Jeff Neck -- is that June 8?

Strat - the owner of Mountain Star is making overtures about having us build the resort. Who knew? That'd put us in town quite a bit, maybe building a small hotel of our own right next to the Brick. Will keep ya posted. No plans to be back in town just yet, but will probably be back in the next few weeks. When I do, I'll make concrete plans to be there -- no snow and an early start should help.

WOW! Just got caught up with reading the back posts I missed. I think someone has a blu infatuation. ahhh... young love. spring is truly in the air. Florida was fantastic as usual! Finally had the chance to meet some more of the PT family. What a bunch of great people! Even my friends from Tampa thought so. Had the opportunity to chat with Monica. She is so sweet! The Universal gigs are similar to the regular shows. Just a couple changes, Eric sings "Fortunate Son" by CCR, and the band does that "Iko, Iko" song. Too funny on that last one. I think Universal is kinda corny, but the tourists like it. Then you have the band just blasting away. They stand out like a diamond in a pile of rocks. The crowd sort of comes and goes. The kids seem to most appreciate the music. The adults that have probably been in the park since morning look pretty tired from dragging the kids around all day. Anyway back to work. Peace out Rich

The Freebird Cafe PT played last year and he was interviewed and in the interview he says that once an artist has had a day in the sun the record company want to move on and he is currently without a deal. PT recorded a live album there in 2000 and it was supposed to be out
in November 2000 according to this post page around that time. Also PT was going to put an album out with Glenn Hughes last year which still hasn't seen the light of day. Recently Shrapnel recorded his show in Illonis for a future release so is he back signed to them now and Ed you say he has been asked to record for Shrapnel again and I take he is still looking for a better deal?
Yes I got the two albums you mentioned and what the fans would really like to know what exactly is going on because according to other posters it was ready and coming out last year. The Freebird Cafe is a venue in Florida PT plays you can find the interview on there website. Over and out!

Ed-that's too cool that you mentioned a setlist from 12-9-82. My first ever PT show was 12-15-82 in Greensboro, NC when he opened for Aerosmith. Didn't he have Joey Jelf on tour with him on the Black Pearl tour? I know he had Don Harriss, Sandy Genarro, and Mars with him as well. He blew away Aerosmith so bad, in large part because Perry and Whitford had departed and Steven Tyler was smacked out on heroin, but also because Pat's WAY better than those guys even when they are sober. People dug Pat so much and were streaming out of the place during Aerosmith's show. Rose Tattoo was the opening band with PT sandwiched between them and Aerosmith. What a great memory!

Hey Richard that's cool man. I'm glad you are this cool. However, it's pretty uncool to use your name and talk about "yanking tequillas" that's crude and vulgar, like the guy who wrote it. Shows no class huh? I wonder if the impersonator Richard knows anything about the Blu and Crissy I met? Blu seems like a strong silent type - my Dad always use to tell me to watch out for those guys, but he really is a nice fellow. Did I mention his wife is a babe? My wife was a babe until I met his wife. Blu if you are checking this site - no offense brother. People really have misready you dude. Don't c\let people change you man. I called him (blu) yesterday. He was listening to THE rADIOACTIVE cd, I could hear it in the background. We are going to see Eddie Money together tonight. He said the drinks were on him AGAIN. Now how cool is that? - late RR

Rockin' Dude,

What point are you trying to make here?

If I were really concerned about it I would make it a point to ask Pat myself. I'm not. I know how these things go. Pat is going to do what he feels is best. He has to be as much a businessman as a musician.

With that said do you know of a professional musician that is NOT trying to sell their latest album?

Pat is and will always be on the lookout for a good record deal. He has the material. No doubt about it.

One thing I'm sure of and that is any future Blues Bureau releases (If there are any) would not include most if any of the songs that Pat is shopping around to other record companies.

Now I have a question for you.... Did you purchase a copy of "Don't Feed The Alligators" and/or "Blues Tracks 2"? Answer honestly....

Hey Shiva:
If you can, I would still hold on that 70's era Marshall, even if you get the Bogner. Some of the best sounding ones were from that period. It's a shame that Marshall quickly went downhill in the tone department by the eighties and now that Korg owns them - well you can guess the rest. I'm saying this because I once owned a '59 tweed Fender Bassman and sold it a year later (this was 25 years ago when I was playing guitar with Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders). Unfortunately I've yet to find a better amp even now(for my tastes). I regret selling it. If your Marshall sounds that good - keep it! The Bogner may have knocked you on your ass at the store - but everything sounds good in a music store. Take it home or better yet take it in a gig. That's where you're really going to hear it. Buy the Bogner and keep the Marshall!

When you talk about Ronnie Montrose and Bogners, Eric Johnson and Dumbles - the tone is coming from their fingers first and foremost. They could play out of the worst amps ever made and still sound great. Do what sounds good to you. Actually I think "Shiva" is a cool name for an amp).

Speaking of Montrose, I saw him with the Edgar Winter Group in 1973 - Great! What was cool was when he and Dan Hartman switched off (bass and guitar)to play "Free Ride".

I remember an excellent opening act called "Buckacre" that opened for the Pat Travers Band around the "Crash and Burn" era. Does anybody else remember them?

Hey Richard. Whats up? I'm new to This PT kicks Ass site but noticed you mentioned about Blu. Have you ever met him. He paid for my dinner at the Kansas show where we met him. His wife is beautiful. He gave me a card that said he was a Sales Manager for Craftsman. He and I talked about all our favorites from the Days of Zeppelin Pat Travers, Montrose, Robin Trower and even the Hawkwind Space Ritual (hot album if you can get it). He is not a musician in any form and does not profess to be, so I;m sure he's not a wanna be. Just a huge guitar player fan is what my take was. I really liked him. He just sent me some copies of news articles on the big shows he's promoted. He used to do it all the time he said, now he does it every once in a while, so he said. He said he booked and promoted a recent show of PT's (The drummers birthday or something) can't remember his name though at the Coach or Satge Coach House? Can't remember what he said. His wife was very professional besides being ababe. That's all I know so far. Mentioned something about not coming on-line anymore - seemed to calm up about it. Don't know whay, but I can tell you this guy is a friendly, down-to-earh dude. He wouldn't have drink with me, but he bought me and my wife 4 or 5. All in all, he seems the opposite of what you said. He did say that Pat Travers and him went way back together and that to him there was no other for his favorite. He said he plays PT stuff more than anything and rarely listens to much else. - Ih well - late Robert

Magoo-

I lugged around my Marshall 4x12 G12H30 cabinet from the 70's - has that nice, mellow, rich tone of the older cabs. I also tried another Shiva out(6L6 version) at a different store with a Bogner 4x12 vintage 30 cab which sounded really nice! That combination sounded great. If I was in the market for a newer 4x12 I would look to a Bogner cab. A guy in his late 40's to 50's came in the room while I was auditioning the amp through my cabinet, who said he was currently into lite rock, commented "boy, that sounds great!" My cab was pointed in the opposite direction up against the back wall, to tame down its fully wound volume, when he heard it. EFX... I only tried my FD2 (brushed aluminum), TS9/808B and CAE buffer/splitter box using the same exact cables I normally use in front of my amp - combination of George L(vintage red like EJ) and Monster Studio Pro 1000. The only other piece of equipment I tried out along with the amp was my Hotplate. I only wished I would have brought along one of my fuzzes to try out. Even for the amount of time I spent auditioning them out I still did not have enough time to change the preamp tubes to my Mullards and a couple other things which to my judgment wasn't necessary, in the end, anyways. The amp has an efx loop which is tube buffered. Montrose uses the loop and if I choose to run it that way, I know it will sound good.

Those Dumble amps are very pricey! EJ stopped using his when a transformer went out. So, I do not know if they are truely reliable?? hard to find, I think. Also, he does not make a lower wattage head (aren't they over 100 watts?) but in the last EJ interview I read EJ did mention that he had heard Dumble was going to come out with a lower wattage version say 45 or 50 watt amp. Those amps are definately suited for large venues only.

Just curious Shiva...What kind of cab did you test these through? And did you take your FX setup with you? A longtime Marshall user convert is good adverts for Bogner. On another note...has anyone played through a Howard Dumble amp? Eric Johnson & Shawn Lane both have raved about them in the past.

Maybe my earlier post was misunderstood. I don't expect Ginbel or Ed to know or answer anything about PT. I don't expect them to be run and bug PT with every question someone throws out. That being said: I think it would be in PTs best interest to let people know when a new product is available. It has been discussed here in the past that PT has no representation and people in the past have had no clues about new releases or shows. Concerning PT touring, sometimes you can't find out if it's a PT show or a VOCR show. I know in the past some people went thinking they were going to see PT and wound up at a Brian Howe show. There our plenty of message boards and web sites out there that an artists manager or tour manager posts info about shows. I've heard rumor that PT does it all himself these days. That may or may not be true. The bottom line is that we are all big PT fans here. We would love a new cd. Whatever and whenever he chooses to put it out. We would love to see PT live performing new and old tunes. I think we all want the same thing. It dosen't have to turn into childish name calling.

Daddy Long Legs!

A father watched his daughter playing in the garden. He smiled as he reflected on how sweet and innocent his little girl was. Suddenly she just stopped and stared at the ground. He went over to her and noticed she was looking at two spiders mating.
"Daddy, what are those two spiders doing?" she asked.
"They're mating," her father replied.
"What do you call the spider on top, Daddy?" she asked.
"That's a daddy longlegs," her father answered.
"So, the other one is a mommy longlegs?" the little girl asked.
"No," her father replied. "Both of them are daddy longlegs."
The little girl thought for a moment, then took her foot and stomped them flat. "Well, we're not having THAT sort of •••• in our garden."

Everybody is so uptight...lie back take a dip of snuff (or other more powerful drug) and get a grip! I am surprised that Pat has any fan base left after treading the same old ground for the past few years. Now Eddie and Ozzy are moving...why is that?? And whoever made the comment about Pat being way better than Joe Perry better look at results. Joe Perry is much more creative than Pat Travers and has sold WAY TOO MANY ALBUMS (regardless if you think he "sold out" or not. He is a great player who KEEPS UP WITH THE TIMES AS DID ROD STEWART. To play Heat in the Street with those weird (to the average listener) chords is not a way to make money. He knew that!! As far as a new record..what material does he have, who is managing the creative process - and most importantly, he should step away from the mike like Joe Perry did and let a competent vocalist take over...I have many suggestions in terms of singers...but face it - good singers are typically taken. I can count on 10 fingers singers who have the ability to sing well (rock singers) and sell records. You know who they are...Don't ever under estimate the power of "nowsville". A 47 year old musician must definitely adhere to change...The Stones did. Rod did, Aerosmith did, Bryan Adams did...need I go on?? I am not saying Pat has to rap...just keep up with the times. Also, Ginbel - I have no respect for your comments to others on this site. You seem to think that you are right and everyone else is wrong. Well, you are not always right and your rebuttals show your red-headed immaturity for debate. This world does not revolve around you and your shallow comments. Get a life boy!! By the way, I know all of you from concerts and am a little disgruntled with your behavior here. Never ever underestimate the power of change...you need change Ginbel!! As a fan I would like to know about current projects and new releases because I would buy them. I to wonder about the "live" release. I wonder about the project with Glenn Hughes. I wonder about the new PTB project of new material that was rumored to have been released last year. Has PT signed with Spitfire? Is he with Shrapnel or Blues Beareu? I don't know? But from what I'm reading here from previous posts, there is no new CD from Pat, same setlist for years, etc.
If all the posts were just about the band, it would get a little boring, don't you think?

Speaking of Eddie Money, a friend of mine sang background vocals on his hit "Shakin'" - The story behind that session is quite interesting.

Why would Pat want to re-release numbers that Jerry Riggs wrote? Jerry is no longer in the band. I'm with the other guys. Why should I care if Blu paid for drinks and has a good looking wife? This is the Pat Travers Band website! It's all about Pat, Rick, and Eric and the music. You need to give it a permanent rest. You're falling on deaf ears at this location.

I had girl scout cookies sent to my browser, but I ate them. Why would we sit around and talk about someone else, but the band members on this site? I'm glad you like him, but that's your business and "makes no difference" to me. I saw Eddie a few months ago. He was alright. He obviously has been seriously damaged by all the drugs he did. I guess he stopped a partying a little too late. Too bad. One final note... this site does not use cookies.

Wow, Eddie Money was hot Friday Nite at John Ascuaga's Nugget. Blu and Crissy paid for everything. I told him I was posting this site little. He said he couldn't get in anymore because someone sent "cookies" to his browser. He didn't talk about it any more. We had a blast - forgot how hot Eddie was. Said he had a new CD coming called Jonesin For Money. I read an anynomyous quote about Blu, but I'm not asking any questions over and over, just doing a little silent batting for a cool guy with a beautiful and smart babe for a wife. You people act as though you don't know him. Do any of you actually know him? He played me a couple of cool old time live cuts from a PT show he said he did back in 1989 in the Bay Area. It was an old cassette, but it still had the excellent action with Jerry Riggs on guitar too. Guitars from Hell and Help Me Please - They were HOT. PT would you consider re-releasing these choice numbers? WOWY, WOW, WOW - Robert

Hi everyone, new guy to the group, just got to see pat a bunch of times at Universal studios. I saw some posts where they said its a cheesy gig. But ill take that kind of cheese any day of the week. I have an annual pass so i dont pay for parking or getting in or anything but food and drinks, and I saw Pat front row every single time. and he played like 18 times. I dont know where you could get to see someone like Pat Travers that many times for free.

Ok got that out of my system, Im also a guitarist, singer songwriter, I was wondering if anyone out there knows about Pats rig. I could tell he had a custom cabinet, looked like 15" speakers instead of 12's. I could see the JM900 but couldnt tell what the effects box was. Looked like an alesis stereo verb or something like that. And I could only see one pedal, a cry baby waw, waw. So if anyone can fill me in or correct me or confirm id apreciate it. The tones he gets have always puzzled me and getting to see him just made want to know even more.

Ive like Pat since the mid 70's back when he put out Puttin in Straight was the first id heard of him, but haveing a chance to see him live was a special treat. Im in Orlando fl. if anyone can tell me when he may play this area again that would be cool too. I cant get the gigs page to boot up. It just wont come up yet for me. Lets see what else.

Oh yea he rocked Universal i do agree the people there didnt know what to think of this guy just screaming out leads like a white Hendrix god, although the set was exactly the same everytime. Even down to the leads. I guess that helps the younger portion of his band keep up though. I know some of the songs were older than the guys playing with him. there were also people like me in the croud that you could tell were old time rockers and were there for one pourpose. to get a full time fix of pure magic. Ok enough said. thanks for the page ED and dont let it faid. I have tons of digital pics if you want any of Pat at Universal, i even have mini 3minute viedo mpgs i took with my digital. So anyone interested just email me.

thanks Chris

Hey did you guys and gals know that Pat Travers is a really good guitar player! Really!! he has a new record out called "Putting it Straight". I think that on his album after this one he should get another guitarist to help out and replace the drummer and call his next album "Heat in the Street". If anyone speaks to him give him the ideas.

hey DAZ and anyone else who wants to know.... Pats relationship with Shrapnel or any other entity is personal. We get WAY too many questions on this site about that. Who cares anyway? I mean seriously. How does it matter? I'd love to have a real answer to that question. People are constantly posting questions that frankly do not desevre an answer. Pretty much that is a huge reason why Pat does not post here. That and he is a rocker, not a computer geek like we are. LOL!

Wow Guys
a lot of battles going on here. I didnt even know about this page till about a week and a half ago and I was glad that Eric came down front stage with us common people and told me there was a page, (Thanks Eric)I wanted to know a way to find out any touring dates near me. But i thought the message board would be cool too. Lets keep it light guys. I cant understand cutting down someone else's playing abilities. Players like Pat Travers are few and far between. •••• id have the Freight train in my band any day of the week, same with Rick. Just listen to Pats music, try to play it with all the funky breaks and off beats, and really weird but totally cool time he keeps. Imagine trying to play bass or drums to his songs, you have to be really, really good.

I just say thank god for Pat Travers, for Eric, and for Rick. They jam, they are tight, and they are make me wanna party all night.

simon or should i say simple simon, i say you got a little bit of professional jeolosy going on there, eric kicks ass and the longer him and rick play with pat the tighter they are gonna get, everyone has there own idea of who should be playing with pat, i flew to delaware last year to see pat and the band and rick and eric were real nice. eric greeted me by name and had never seen me before in my life, I was apprehensible because i had heard pat was playing with some younger guys but they were tight, they are their own musicians and deserve the same respect. everyone needs to get off of this sh*t about who should be playing with who, if you are a drummer i'll bet your drums are probably sitting at home collecting dust, it is all in your attitude.

Posted on Thursday, April 11, 2002 - 07:40 pm:

I read Eric's post twice more to find the boasting...I just can't. I must be an idiot.

I took it that he was so grateful to have played on the same stage as (insert all those bands name's here!), not boasting or bragging. That is the same as someone saying they work for the most profitable company in their industry, in the whole country. It is pride, not inflated ego.

The line he wrote about having his best friend in the whole world beside him every night...Can you not feel that!? I only met Eric and Rick once, but they went out of their way to be nice to me and all 6 buddies that I brought along that night! Denny's!! And Pat as usual was considerate, approachable, and seemingly humble and not-at-all pretentious.

Re-read his post and see if you can't get it. But if you can't see that, then you just don't understand!

Posted on Thursday, April 11, 2002 - 06:21 pm:

First of all, let me clarify something. If Pat wants to play the record companies that is his business. Second, Eric Frates is looking for compliments and kudos constantly based on his egotistical comments through his posts here. His constant need for acceptance is obvious and rightfully so. He is no where near the drummer that Tommy, Nico, Liberty, or the guy who played on school of hard knocks (now that guy was great!!). If he thinks he is, we can't change that. I think Eric is a "good" drummer but not a great drummer as he thinks he is. Also, let me explain the difference between Rick Navarro and Eric Frates. Rick is an unassuming person who knows his limitations - but he is extremely talented. Eric is always looking for reassurance..and through the small fanbase here. Eric, to list your accomplishments here is unnecessary...we don't care who you shared a stage with - as the proof is in your playing ability. You are the Frosty (Lee Michael's drummer) of the 2000s. You will be gone from sight soon as is everybody else that is "good". Don't fool yourself Eric, you are nowhere close to the others in your band either as a person or a musician. Pat is great, Rick is great, you are "good"..that should be a compliment but it will probably be taken as an insult. It is not meant to be. Just know your limitations. Playing with Rick Derringer is great..but why didn't his band play the European tour??? Is it because Rick can't afford to compensate them, are they doing something else? Is it because he chose to tour solo? Whatever the reason, playing with Rick Derringer is no guarantee that you are great (one of Pat's drummers played for a very short time with Rick Derringer and I emphasize a short time -Rick has a also played with Carmine Appice - no comparison to you Eric, he is a GREAT drummer). As soon as you are mature enough to realize that you are "good" but not great, the more people will respect you. Rick Navarro proves that - he is MODEST unlike you. He admits that Jaco and other bass players are great!!! You need to admit that there are many superior players out there. You would be surprised how that type of modesty will win friends and influence people. By the way Eric, as soon as you have the chops of Dave Garibaldi, the speed of Neil Peart, the timing of Liberty DeVito, the heart of the Firehouse drummer, the left hand coordination that the late great Buddy Rich did, then brag..we may listen..Learn from your friend Rick...bragging and boastfulness lessens your credibility. Think about that. And instead of attacking me, listen to this message. You don't have to defend Pat, he can do that himself....Boastfulness is a sign of insecurity...but Eric, I know you would know nothing about that!!

I know I am bouncing off the walls and so happy and so full of good, positive energy, ok and maybe a little or alot of vodka, but hey..... Aren't you guys? Well remember that JOY and HAPPINESS that this band brings us, I do every day and am very thankful to have the PTB in my life. I love Pat and the boys with all my heart, they are wonderful people, so lets just be happy and count our blessings!!!and I agree with Eric there are not too many musicians that give their fans the time of day as PTB does. Thats another gift. I could ramble on and on, but I think you all get the point. So moving on. Thanks for all the cool birthday wishes, it was a great night seeing PTB. I woke up and said hey it's my birthday I want to see my band, and we did and it did the old soul tons of good!!!Darren thank you for the kind words, I try to be positive all the time, sometimes it is harder than others, but hey OVER ALL LIFE IS GOOD!!! Hey every one i guess ill have to put my two cents worth in on the Pat Travers, Steve Perry thing.
The first thing I learned playing small clubs and open mic nights and so on was as a guitarist you dont ever compare yourself to someone else. You do not ever Critique someone elsee playing abilities. Im sure Pat and Steve have mutual respect for what the other has accomplished. Neither Accomplishment can be denied.

Let me remind everyone, there is no "better" among guitarists. Purely personal taste. As for Joe Perry, he's a "band" player and Aerosmith's songs can't be denied. They've had catchy material since the early seventies. In the eighties, outside writers were brought in like Diane Warren and Desmond Child (By the way, they're not Swedish). I don't think Joe Perry would drop to his knees about Pat (or vice versa), I think he's laughing all the way to the bank.

Well "HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS?" Man, We just finished up three FULL weeks at Universal Studios. I'm sure most of you know that. I am gonna start by saying this.....I have the artwork photographs for the new album in my possession as I post this. Pat wants the album artwork done A.S.A.P.! That's great news to me and yourselves I'm sure. I am currently learning Rick Derringer's stage show for the upcoming European Tour. Man, this guy is great and it is a blast playing his stuff. As most of you know, Rick (navarro) and I will be backing both, Rick (derringer) and Pat on that tour. You know I can't express enough how much of a true blessing it has been with Pat in the past couple of years!I have been to 10 differnt countries. I have shared stages with Blue Oyster Cult, Night Ranger, Scorpions, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tonic, B.T.O., Black Oak Arkansas, Jackyl, Firehouse, Steppenwolf, Brian Howe, Status Quo, Molly Hatchet, Rick Derringer, Marsall Tucker Band, Larry Hoppen (Orleans), Not to mention get to actually play drums for Eddie Money, Rick Derringer, Glen Hughes, and the rest of the V.O.C.R. gang.I mean how blessed could one person be? I have my very best friend in the world on bass. I wish those of you with the need for degrading comments about Pat's playing could see the way your MENTORS and GUITAR GODS show him so much respect. I have so much respect for Pat that somtimes I am a bit defensive. How many others in Pats' position stay for at least an hour after every single show just to sign autographs and such. Many nights we have absolutely nothing to sell. We are going into the studio as soon as we get back from Europe. We are going to record at Sean Shannon's studio. He has a great Pro Tools rig and Pat is looking forward to a completely fresh studio album in a very considerably short period of time. I know the NATIVES ARE RESTLESS, and tht makes me so happy. I can't wait to give you the post that says "here it comes"!!!!For those of you who came to the Universal gigs thank you for the kind words and enthusiasm. I couldn't be happier in this band and I know that Rick feels the same way. I just wanted to post a little (State Of The Union) for those of you who truly care.I Hope I'm not opening myself up for negative bombardment> ERIC

P.S. Ya know what?...Rich and Nancy bought my daughter a cute little shower bear for her birthday last month and I think that just about says it all for me!! FREIGHT-TRAIN

Hey Simon, ask Joe Perry who's better on guitar and Joe will drop to his knees.
All the "hits" that you love so much, are written by the same sweedish people who wrote for ABBA, Ace of Base, and some Backstreet Boys. Just ask JP.

BTW, give it up Road Ranger...Blu. It doesn't become you.

Hey BG -

Read your post from a couple days ago. I took my 1987x Marshall amp along with my best sounding Marshall cabinet to do an accurate and true comparison between the two amps. I also used my guitars, cords, etc going to the amp. This removed the new purchase and store environment anomalies. I originally intended on going back and forth between the Marshall and Bogner. But, after hooking up the Bogner I never went back to playing through the Marshall - I had pretty much all the info that I needed. I first started off playing the Bogner on channel 1 for awhile then went over to channel 2. After playing for a handful of minutes through channel 2 it was clear to me what the Bogner was capable of and I needed to do. I already sold one of my Marshall heads for a very good price. Yesterday, I placed the order for the Bogner amp. Shiva on the way! I confide in your impressions on Marshall tone per era. After the JMP's went Marshall went down in tone quality (though you can find 800's that rock and give off a huge sound, I found that my 800 was always a little too bright , thin and lacking in the warmth of their earlier models. But, others who would hear it would stop their playing and wonder what I was playing through - it turned heads. It was always a struggle to get what I wanted from it.) However, I ended up selling my white 800 (two on-top inputs model 2204) after A/B'ing it with a DSL50. The DSL I chose out of a lot that GC had available to audition and significantly outperformed the other dsl heads.

BTW, I saw in a previous post awhile ago that Eric and Rick's original band was 7th Fold. Previous to PTB, was this their only real exposure? Have they done any other recordings etc.?

To Simon:
I see you've mentioned several drummers in reference to Eric Frates. One of them being Buddy Rich. This quote is from the musicians who have played with Buddy. "He was an egotistical tyrant and an A1 •••••••!" His success was an exception because he was a bandleader in a unique musical situation for the time.
A musician's chops will only take him so far. If he's an ••••••• eventually no one will hire him. Personality is very important in the long run.
(By the way, I worked with Jaco before he passed away - He was an excellent drummer too! Not too many people knew that).

I don't know Eric Frates but he obviously has the talent and personality that will take him far in this business. I'm betting he will have a long and successful career. Probably like Kenny Aronoff - the kind of in demand drummer that EVERYBODY wants to have on their tour.

And what have you accomplished so far in your career, Simon?

Ok, still got a few hours on the West Coast to say Happy B-Day PT! How cool, I decided to check in on the board today!

Eric, you have always been nothing but a pro, both on and off stage. SO glad to hear there's a new CD coming down the pipeline! Thanks for the update, and keep us posted here on all the latest developments!

Rik Emmett fans, go to www.rikemmett.com, under Biography, there's a Triumph FAQ that explains the whole breakup, and why there will NEVER be a reunion. It's been a long time since Rik played California; it'd sure be great to catch him again!

That's all my ramblings for now, just glad to hear there is new PT music on the way!!

Cheers all!

Good to see ya posting!!! You rule! So sorry that you have to endure the B.S. that comes along with fame. But we love ya - I think you know that. We don't pay that BS no nevermind.

Cindy,
Rick Emmett is phenominal. IMO a "Mid Summers Daydream" has got to be one of the greatest guitar pieces ever written. BTW I already cheked on the mileage and driving times from Concord to Darrington...
Total Estimated Time: 15 hours, 54 minutes
Total Distance: 862.73 miles

Don't know if that's possible but I guess we shall find out. :)

I AM COMPLETELY STOKED!!! Eric, bears us the good news on the development of their new cd giving us all something to look forward to purchasing in the near future. I came home yesterday to find out that my Bogner amp is ready for pickup after having just ordered it Tuesday! (I even spoke to Bogner himself.) How's that for customer service Stratmagoo, BG, and Chris?! Ed, posts concert dates for venues in my area... Oh, man...yo' the man Ed! I will plan on attending those CA shows- practically in my backyard. I do not know if I can be of any assistance Ed (transportation, a place to stay, etc.,seriously) but let me know by hitting me with a post. PT's b-day today...I am totally incomprehensible and discombobulated in my thoughts at the moment. Overflowing with pure energy (think cover of PT's Makin' Magic) like a child in his or her favorite candy store. What more can one ask for?!

Eric- You didn't mention anything about having a child when I met you the first time at the Cow Palace. Your child is fortunate to have an empathic, well-liked, good mannered, energetic father. It is a known fact PT surrounds himself with only classy people allowing them to further their talents.

PT, has infused the musical industry with an indescribable influence. His music is testiment that good, hard-driven, well thought out, blues-influenced rock survives and withstands the test of time, riding through the waves of a crazy, cloning industry. There is no other!! We are wishing PT the happiest of times.

Cindy- Rik Emmett... Would LOVE to see him! IMO, I think Rik is one of the most underrated and overlooked rock guitarist. So much so that it makes me almost weep considering the lack of appreciation or recognition he has received over the years. How many guitarist do you know of who can pull off good licks while doing lead vocals simultaneously?! Really, really underrated, really, really sad. Does Rik have a website?

Being that you mentioned Emmett, I have had a reoccuring thought for one awesome concert. ______presents brings you the Canadian Triple Trio with Triumph (If it is all possible to get these folks back together?), PTB - of course!, and Rush (they are about ready to go on tour and release a new cd after Pert's tragic setback). Another Canadian band that is also touring these days that would go right along with the above, with only a change to the title of the show, is April Wine. I would travel to see that...oh yes!

I saw your last show here at Easyriders in San Jose, the solo gig, and it was great to hear the older tunes like Magnolia, Hot Rod Lincoln and Dedication. I love the way you treat the crowd like we were all old friends that you haven't seen in a while. Let's us all know that you care about the fans as much as they care about you, and that's a lot. And, on another separate note, for all the people with the negative bull**** comments, try to give Dedication a listen. I've got lot's of comments for them people, but nobody wants to read that BS, so I won't bother posting them, I wish they would do the same. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, Simon you couldn't be more wrong about Eric. After reading his post, it's obvious to me that he is deeply appreciative of the artists that he has been able to share the stage with. I've seen him post that several times on the internet, and there's nothing at all arrogant in the way that he discusses his career. Eric and Rick are as down to earth as they come. Rick practically served as my escort a few months ago to allow me to attend a "private" gig. Rick and Eric were both cool to talk with. Pat couldn't have better ambassadors for his band than Rick and Eric.

As for their playing abilities, it's obvious that Rick and Eric are soulmates on and off stage. Eric adds things to Pat's songs that gives it a freshness that is different from Pat's other drummers. The quick high-hat work on "Stevie" comes to mind-it fills up the gaps on that song. He plays HARD and FURIOUS, and I believe that's the way Pat's music is meant to be played. He doesn't simply hit a cymbal, he PUNISHES his kit. He leaves it all on the stage.

As for Rick, he's FUNKY and he's not stiff. Again, I believe that's the way Pat's music is meant to be played. Most of Pat's song leave lots of creative flowing for a bass player. My opinion is that Rick plays more off of a VIBE than being prone to the same old licks night after night. He's got the "slapping" technique honed to perfection, and he's got a very good ear for what's going on. He plays with lots of HEART, and anyone that plays with heart is a keeper.

Have I explained clearly enough what Rick and Eric bring to the table? These guys are winners and Pat should feel lucky that he found these two for his rhythm section.

Shiva - Yeah, I guess "Never Say Never," but I get from reading between the lines that it would probably be a cold day in hell before Rik decided to work with those guys again.

Cindy & Darren - Man, sounds like an awesome couple of shows! I hope he makes it down to Southern CA this summer!

Can you imagine a band with Rik and Pat together?! That would be amazing, those 2 trading vocals and solos, WOW! Now, that's the best idea I've EVER hoid!

Cheers!

Steve Z

PS gREG, Randall, anyone, Beuller, if you're checkin' in, my Zep band is definitely doing Tucson June 8 for some kind of festival. We're going out there with Rocks, an Aerosmith tribute.

Hey Cindy, I too saw Rik Emmett last night in Vancouver & I was absolutely blown away! What an amazing talent this guy is. You say you saw a few of his shows? Where else did he play??? He played some of his own material as well as some Triumph classics. Some of the Triumph songs he played were "Lay it on the Line" "Fight the Good Fight" & "Magic Power" He also did a short acoustic set which included the crowd pleaser "Midsummers Day Dream" I highly recommend seeing him if anyone gets the chance. I just checked out his website & believe he will playing some summer dates in the US. July 10th in Seattle is confirmed.

HAPPY B-BIRTHDAY PAT!!! Hope you had a great one!

I thought it was my birthday when I saw Eds post announcing those three Bay area dates in August.
Looks like another road trip!!! It will be cool seeing PTB at the Backbeat & the Boardwalk for a second time. Hey Ed, I also looked into the logistics of getting from Concord, CA to the show the next day in Darrington, WA. It can be done if you depart Concord right after the show & drive 12 hours straight to Darrington...thats called iron-man rock n roll!

PTBROXX!!!

Rik Emmett...I forgot to add what an extremely multi-talented, well-rounded, respectful, classy, incredible individual! Cindy, you are lucky to be there to see him in concert! He's going to be performing in London, Ontario in Feb 2003 with...London Symphony Orchestra wow!

Cindy - Tell us in more detail about the concert...or shoot me a post. Emmitt did recently do that "Raw Quartet" cd that I'll have to check out.

Steve - Just got through looking at Emmitt's website, interviews and all. While there are hard feelings regarding royalties, relationship and musical direction, there wasn't any info there that said they would "never' be a reunion. I think Rik addressed the whole Triumph issue from a respectable standpoint and gave same insight to why and how he departed. A more accurate position would be: it appears to be a slim or remote possibility. He seems to still have a tinkering with the rock and blues- influenced side of his musical upbringing. If only some of the songwriting, ego (much harder to change) and financial climate was different...who knows?

Happy Birthday P.T. one day late. I would have posted yesterday but I was no where near my pc. Hope you had a great day. Thanks so much for all the music and great shows over the years. Musically, you have been the biggest infulence on my life.
Eric - thanks for the post about the new disc. Pay no mind to Simon. What a loser he is. We all know how good you are and it's pretty apparent to everyone who sees you guys play. I could echo everyones sentiments about how you well you and Rick (P.T. too) treat all the fans, but that would be redundent. Suffice to say you guys were more then hospitable to the wife and I at the Lodi Bowl. You guys recognized me on site which we thought was pretty cool as we only met you guys once a couple of years ago. Thanks again. It was a great expirence !!!
Rick - A very, very, very, belated birthday greeting. Geez, where are my manners. Hope it was a good one.
Ginbel - The same goes for you with all the b.s. sent your way. Man, I don't know how you put up with all of it. Just keep producing the quality products we all have come to expect from you.

Finially, I'll second what Andries and Wilma said about Walter Trout. Man that guy knows how to make a guitar cry. Go out and pick up "Go The Distance" and "Livin Every Day". You won't be sorry.

PT was dropped by Shrapnel because he was considered too talented for thier normal line up. As a contract buy out he was compensated $45 million dollars. This is a large reason he is not overly concerned about releasing the new CD. The other thing is he was given a magic lamp and a leprachaun named Fred. Hopefully this silly ass answer matches your silly ass question! Actually to all you normal people... PT was NOT dropped by anyone. Pat will still work with Mike when they both want to. This is not a soap opera here, so let's keep things normal... okay?

Hello everyone. Wow. You guys still haven't fogottn me. My new friend Bob Stubbs told me about these posts and where I could view them. The last time I posted was to the other board about 1-1/2 months ago. It was my fairwell post and apology to all I hurt. I was sincere then, and I am sincere now, any post on this particular board with reference to me was IN FACT NOT ME. I only popped my head up because of what Bob told me -"Roadranger". I am not him, I am not Richard, I am not Simon, I am not Ginbel - I am Blu - same name diffenet attitude. Hey Simon whoever you are - Eric Frates is a "world class drummer", I don't know what garage band you are playing in, but I'd take lkessons from Eric - he is the genuine article. Check my concert Review for Sept 1, 2002. Drive way back into the posts. - Bye

Hi Chris! Welcome to Hamerhead central!

Great verses you shared with us! Very good timing on your part.

Hey folks...just picked up Best of Blues plus Live

If you're itchin' for a live fix and don't have this one, I highly recommend it. Listened to it yesterday while fixin' up the house to make it ready to move in. PT made the time go by and the work seemed a lot easier.

Ginbel - if you're checking in...don't stay away too long...then the terrorist will have won...but I can see where you need a break.

It is just amazing the amount of negativity that a few or one bring to this board for no other reason than they are bored. Sucks for the rest of us because they keep the PT and the boys from wanting to come here.

-- LOOKOUT

I tried to post last night but lsot the message. I was something like --

Happy Birthday, Pat! You old bastard. There's a nice chardonnay waiting for you next time I see ya. Looking forward to the summer gigs! See ya then

Eric -- there is an absolute REASON that you are known as PTBadass!! Because you KICK ass! I have also seen alot of drummers, and you always make the show fun! I happen to dig your riffs,a nd have a blast just watching you play. Further, as it happens I am a Badass Architect, and just because someone else tries to discount it, the fact remains. End of story. Oh, and this is no boast, because I think it's pretty clear that I'm not looking for kudos on this site hahahaha See you soon, buddy.

Rick -- looking forward to seeing you again soon. The chain had to go becasue it was eating my arm, but we'll get silver next time. I think gREG ATE his . . .

Ed, you are most awesome and deserve much credit for providing this venue. I woke up this morning knowing that gREG was right -- this too will pass. Lighten up, folks -- go listen to "Us and Them" by Pink Floyd, then go play "Dedication" and "Stevie," then "Hot Rod Lincoln" from the Henderson solo cd, and you'll be alright.

Sounds like the US/Canadian Forest Service will be there by storm -- Cindy, Darren, Gettin Bette, Stratkandu, Ed de Frietas and me. Strat -- you staying in Darrington that night? Drinks on me

I forgot what else I was gonna say

Hey Shiva, That post was directed at someone who is not a new comer, but just keeps posting the same question over and over like a mental patient. I had really hoped my two week vacation from the board here would have found us all in a better and happier place, I think I was fantesising. Truthfully, I am taking a much longer break. It has occured to me recently that this place is becoming a source of stress. So having said that.... we, or at I am taking a extended break for a while. I am not even reading the posts. Those of you who want to contact me know how to do so. I'll be able to concentrate more on cranking out all that PTB stuff I have been promising. Kind of too bad the negativity has gotten to the point where it is. If I don't read it, I won't know about it and I won't care. Rick told me a few months back that all the negativity is what keeps Pat and even them away from even reading the posts. Remember when they used to post here a lot? Anyway, not goodbye forever, just for a few months or so. Much love to most and I'll keep in touch via emails and phone calls. You can email me at ginbel27@comcast.net Finally as Strat says... I AM STILL COMPLETELY STOKED! Yesterday, I picked up my amp. After playing it at the store through a porta cab/combo(1x12) I had one of the associates walk by on my way out of the room with the amp who said, "That sounded great!" The person I was working with had also mentioned how others were also complimenting on how good it sounded - violin-like sustain, etc. All at low volumes , inside a small room filled with Fenders, VHT, and Mesa Boogie amps with a sliding glass door.

Also, how is this?

July 31- Deep Purple, Scorpions, and Dio

August 2- Lynard Skynyrd

Augutst 23- Journey

All at the same concert location in my neck of the woods.

Ed-

Awesome pic of PT there on the home page! I definately prefer that to Cindy's pic. Cindy has some very nice photos of PT though. I am going to have to get a really nice one to have framed shortly here so I might be getting back to you in the near future for one.

Ginbel-

Make reference to previous posts for newcomers who do not scan through the posts when they post on the topic again. That should work. Of course, you could also go out of your way and get authentic replicas of Fred to send out to them with the following sign "I am not responsible for any unfulfilled wishes. (See below for further details.)"

Cindy -

How many members did Emmett play with? What was the setup? Sounds like he had a 3 or 4 piece band. I was thinking with the possibility of Triumph getting back together a remote one, maybe Emmett's band would hit the spot. There seems to be a lot of teaming up of 70's -80's bands for concerts these days.

I'm cool with a private board if it means we can actually talk sensibly about the Pat Travers Band! I've sent you my info-the sooner the better for the new format as far as I'm concerned.

Howdy King Edward! I think the private posting idea is a P.T.errific idea! I'm certainly sure I speak for the "PT family" and the majority, that the STUPIDITY MUST STOP!! I think most of us will have no problems at all with you being the "Big Brother" at this site, because we're not the ones typing the STUPIDITY & RUDENESS that should be omitted. All of this mess has been going on for WAY TOO LONG. It really wouldn't surprise me if F--KHEAD, Simon, Anonapuss and all the other names being used turned out to be coming from the same person. At least with the private posting we'll ALL know who's slinging the slop. Other than expressing Happy Birthday to Pat last week, I haven't posted much at all lately because of the IGNORANCE that has been contaminating this post page lately. When was the last time there was a DECENT conversation about THE MAN or HIS BAND of MAGICIANS? Isn't that what this site is REALLY supposed to be about? Other than the gear discussions I've enjoyed having with Shiva and BG, this site has SUCKED because of all the negative nonsense. "Unknown" people have even ragged us (BG, Shiva & I) about having a somewhat intelligent (okay...maybe that's questionable. Ha!) discussion about gear....why??? All because only one, two, maybe three people have really spoiled what would otherwise be a very cool place to hang if one is a PTB fan. Remember just a short time ago when we had all kinds of "family" here all the time? It was always fun logging on to see what kind of silliness was going to to be here from the funloving goofballs of the "PT family" of old.

Ed....I say go for it....and fast! I for one am ready for the STUPIDITY TO STOP, so we can get back to the original intention of this site, which is to celebrate the greatness of the music that MR. PT & CREW provides for us.

And you just watch...I'm bettin' some IDIOT will slam this post........

And as always....PTB is KING!

Blu,

I accepted your apology. Not that it was aimed in my direction in the first place. But I accepted it nevertheless - I usually do... I'm just an old softy I guess. I can NEVER stay upset with anyone or anything for very long.

With that said:

When the board goes private nobody will be able to post as anybody else.... so that problem will be solved.

The new "private" board will also be highly moderated to reduce "wear and tear" on the users. note: (You can read into the previous sentence what you will.)

Another problem solved.

If someone did you wrong here.... I'm sorry. I am going to try and minimize this type of collateral damage in the future with the new format.

Peace,

Ed

Get'em while they're HOT!!!!

Looks like we just might go to a private board here. Which would mean usernames and passwords. I don't want to do that but it looks like we have a few people here that just DO NOT care about their fellow Hammerheads and insist on being rude and abusive. I am dealing with a lot of complaints amongst the users here on the board and I think that would be one way to control things. I can't believe that anyone into PT and his music would/could be that way....but I guess that's life.

So if you want to reserve your username and password EARLY e-mail me the following:

username- whatever you want
password - whatever you want
full name - full name will not appear on the board.
e-mail address - the e-mail address will be verified by return e-mail with the confirmation of your username/password.

The board will not go private for a week or two so you will have plenty of time to get in your requests. At first it will take me some time to build the database and provide you all with the usernames/passwords that you request so please be patient as you might not hear back from me for a day or two about your username/password. Please give me at least 48 hours from the time you send me your e-mail request - I think should be enough time.

One more thing about going to the private board - anonymous posts will no longer be allowed.

Please e-mail the above information ed@pattravers.com

Of course this is all still open to debate.... this is a discussion board after all. :) Does anyone here think that going to a private bulletin board will help resolve some of the "issues" that we have been having here? Does anyone here think that we should not go to a private board??? Please speak up!!!

Regards,

Ed

I dunno Shiva...Most gear related discussions are relevant. Surely even Pat himself considers gear choices all the time, just as any musician would. And lotsa musicians dig the PTB. And any music related magazine/TV/radio/website/media source would want to touch on all aspects of a given artists' career. In the grand music biz scheme, gear is just as important as songwriting as image as promotion tactics as fan perception as tour agendas as etc., etc., etc......Some fans just want tour dates...some are happy with new product on a fairly regular basis...some want to read articles & interviews...some want gear tips! If it's PTB related in anyway, and it's not asked or presented in a rude or offensive or defamatory manner, then it should be okay here with most folks. I enjoy discussing gear with you and BG as much as I enjoy a good laugh with Beseau as much as the rare hook up session with Randall or Cindy, or a phone call with Ginbel, or any sort of connection with the other "regulars" here. It's all good...And as always...PTB is King!

Let's see Jimbo....If you only have the left channel available in the stereo in your truck (is that WITH or WITHOUT the rifle rack??).....uh, and you jam your thumb in yer right nostril.....I think you might end up with some kinda quasi 5:1 ratio quadradial stereophonic spectrum analyzed quartz coordinated linear phased sound system....correct? You followin' me here, bud? Or maybe if you park the truck, and run around it clockwise REAL FAST while you have that left channel 5 watt speaker sucking up every bit of power that 9 watt amp of yours can throw out...it should sound close enough to true stereo that you'll never know the difference. Remember! Run REAL FAST for maximum effect....and don't forget the 3 or 4 beers minimum requirement! There now....The PTB's sounding real good now, ain't they? You should'a heard how good they sounded before you started trying to drive! Just one question....does Pat's flanger sound better when you're outta breath??? The rumors say it's true! You Texans.....Always gotta be different...

Jim, you're always crackin' me up!

Ed, King Ed, Edmeister, Edvision,...

I am with Strat as well on this one. Please do and , risking the attempt of overworking you , THE SOONER THE BETTER! I am glad that the last slew of defamatory and spitefull posts made you come to this realization. Some people thrive on that kind of sick attention. You will be getting my info asap not that you need to figure out my username. Even with that said, I really do not believe PT would begin to propogate the site with posts IMO, so for those expecting this to come true don't hold your breath. If I were in his shoes I would be the same way - really.

Strat,
The only reason the gear discussions might stay on the "somewhat intellectual" side, on my end anyways, is due to my feeling that I might be causing the site to be too congested with gear-related discussions. Perhaps I'm just overreacting? That and consideration for the work Ed puts into this site. IMO, I feel this is every much a part of PT's life as it is ours and every tone drivin' musician. I find it especially difficult to separate this from the overall scene - offers a more wholistic impression and insight into the music.

BG,

I couldn't stop grinning all the way home with that amp after playing it at the store. Know that feeling? I could go on but it becomes more esoteric(sp?).

Without sounding ungrateful, is there a PT Band gig in the future for Texas? My wife will leave me, but I will drive the state! I am only 5 hours from Austin and that place is great! 4 1/2 from San Antonio, another bee-yoo-tiful spot!! And how about good ole Dallas?! 45 minutes!! Or Fort Worth!! 30 minutes!!

I do need a PT Band fix! Not just Pat, the whole band! (No offense to Rick & Eric, but I will also accept a Pat solo show!)

My stereo is out in my truck! I only have the left channel! I thought it was the amp, but I have found it is the head unit. With 3 kiddos and all their money sucking activities, it has been over 6 months since I have heard stereo! A local dj cracked up when I called and requested something in mono!!

Speaking of radio, Dallas/Fort Worth now has a "Bone" radio affiliate! The Bone sponsored one of the band's shows at The Brickyard (I think) last summer! I listened to the simulcast on the internet before the streaming/airing rights debate started. Anyway, they played Boom Boom the other day and I called and asked if they had any other Travers on their playlist. They said not yet, but hopefully soon. I am seriously gathering information to submit to them a show for "New Classic Rock". Specifically, new tunes from classic era rockers! I would love to get "Wiser Man" on the radio! I thought as an addition to the format they could play songs from new bands that carry that good old rock sound, like Cry of Love (they just came to mind).

Hey Kelly/claypo, didn't you give me the tape of the Bone Show? Don't I owe you something!? I think I do?! Please remind me, so I can make good.

Well, I will end this marathon post for now. You know what they say....PTROXXXX!!

Later...Jim

Yeah Ed, a password to post sounds okay-fine to me! But ya gotta allow some stupidity in because I like to post here from time to time.

Hey Eric, Rick e-mailed me last week and said he wanted a few re-prints from the Universal pics that I did a couple of weeks ago. He tried to describe the shots, but I really do need to see exactly which pics. I shot over 270 frames, 3/4ths of which were trash, over those 2 evenigs. Tell him to scan them in as .JPG`s and then just e-mail them down to me so`s I can get to work on it. I know you have copies of everthing, including the trash, and you can do with them what ever ya want. Just keep rockin' and a rollin, don`t ever settle down, I`ll keep your CD`s playin' all the time, I`ll spend my money on your concerts every time you come to town. I`ll call up my favorite DJ show and request your CD`s every night, and baby, I can be a friend of yours!

Thats part of and old Johnny Winter tune that I just modified. See Ed, ya gotta allow for some non-sense.

Oh by the way Eric and/or Rick, I noticed that theres no more shows listed for here in Florida in the near future. I`m sure it`s just an over-sight but could you guys correct that little situation as I`m startin' to "jones" for another show. Thank you very much for your attention on the matter. Hey Strat/Guys/Gals!

Hey I'm Texan, not retarded! Well, not totally!

The gun rack had to go! I couldn't get to the sliding rear window to throw my Pabst Blue Ribbon tall-boy cans into the bed of my pick-up! I got pulled over once for a noise violation from all those dang cans!!

I got to thinking about my stereo problem and it hit me! I went to the doctor and had my ears checked! I'm deaf in my right ear! It ain't my stereo! It's my ears! So I got me a funnel and some duct tape and I can hear in stereo again! Woo-Hoo!

I tried what you said and now I'm in traction! I ran the wrong way, tripped on my dog Skeeter, knocked the hood down on mama's fingers (she was giving the pick-up a tune up!), stepped on the baby and landed in a mud-hole with my thumb up my ass!! I never could get up to speed to test your quasi-quad theory though!

Well I gotta go! I think the dog's in heat again! And my son is skinnin' a squirrel on the pool table again!

As promised stratmagicians- Part 2

Quote:

...if you dont have breakage problems, I would not recommend doing anything to your bridge. All plastic sleeves do is prevent strings from touching the bridge plate, even drilling or filing string holes in plate still will not stop them from breaking at the saddle.
I've seen many different ways to attempt keeping a guitar in tune. I've been playing strats for 30+ years - lubrication and stretching in my mind are the best. The nice thing about ltuners is no chance to wind the string improperly, as overlapping winds on the peg will cause tuning problems. As for string trees, the use of 2 or 1 depends on the type of mach-heads you use.
Springs- the # of springs is of personal taste. The different sizes I've encounterd will be a result of different manufacturers i.e. Fender, Floyd Rose, Kayler, Goto, Warmoth, All Parts etc.
Wiring for me is pretty much standard except for the use of hbs in the bridge position. Also, I use lace sensors in the middle position just because there are no pole pieces to chew the •••• out of my finger nails.
Neck pus are always american single coil. I use the basic 5 way 3 250k pots.

Just a reminder fellow guitarists- don't get any crazy ideerrrss. Make sure not to use that lube on any other "body" parts

I'll miss them both.

I remember listening to Rock-Line....or some show like that, and Jerry cantrell was saying "it's only a matter of time before we lose Layne." Wow, whatta creepy way to go. After the party goes that far down-hill even your friends just give up. ANYWAY, YES, the count down is on to NYE!!!! America West has some kick-ass deals goin, but its still early. Check the TRAVEL section of your Sunday paper. Hers a good question: what Van Halen songs will the Hagar/Roth tour play? hahaha! g

I also am missing Layne. His singing was haunting. The first time I heard "Dirt" I almost threw it out the window of my car because it was so depressing. After two weeks or so of thinking about it and reading the lyrics, I listened to it again and again, and.. well you get the point. It is right up there as one of my all time favs. Just a shame. There is always a lesson to be learned in these situations. The problem is that the teacher has now passed on.

Ed's handy hint #1 - when you "preview" your post make sure it looks exactly the way you want it to look before you hit the "POST THIS MESSAGE" button. The preview feature lets you see what your post will look like before you post to the board. In your case you would have seen your "quote" in the preview window.

Hey Shiva...The buzz around Seattle is that Layne had basically holed up in an apartment smacking out and rarely ever venturing outside for any length of time. It's common behavior for addicted junkies to behave this way. I'm not ragging on the guy, it's just a sad, true, fact. The reason that authorities held off on the instant identification was because the body was in such a state of decomposition that they supposedly couldn't recognize Layne, even though they knew for sure that it was in fact his residence. This is why the earlier reports only stated that "a body" had been found at his residence. Word is, family members in Kirkland (a Seattle suburb) and friends hadn't heard from him in a while so they requested police to check up, knowing full well the "health issues" Layne had been dealing with for several years. Layne's state of being was a well known fact in the music (and drug) community in the Seattle area. It's been quoted that he had actually been dead for more than 4 days....authorities are putting it at closer to 2 weeks....And heroin paraphernalia was indeed found in his living quarters. I was at a Tony Levin show Friday night and at a Rory Block show at the Experience Music Project Museum Saturday night, and the buzz was already all over the place by Saturday night. Word spread extremely fast, and I refused to believe it until I actually saw it on the news. Layne was one of the best singers in the last 12 years on the rock scene, and I'll miss his incredible voice. Yes, the "Dirt" release is very somber, but it remains one of my all-time favorites to this day. It's a damn shame to see him go down like this, and the people on Ebay that are selling all kinds of Layne Staley stuff to make a quick sympathy buck is something I find extremely repulsive. Rest in peace, Layne...whatever your demons were, they're now gone.

Hello all. I was a big Pat Travers fan in the mid-70's, and still like the old stuff. Glad to have found this site and see all I've been missing these past twenty or so years. Hope to add some newer material to the collection.

Had a question about the July 5th concert date... it says Dayton Beach, but I assume that it is in Daytona Beach? Does anyone have directions to the Band Shell? I will be in the area for the NASCAR race and would like to see the PTB in concert.

Thanks,

Phil

I neglected to mention my sadness at the passing of Layne Staley. I've been an AIC fan for years, and had always held out hope that they would reunite. Saw Cantrell twice, and will go again soon as they're coming back to San Diego. Layne, you junkie bastard, we'll miss you forever.

On a lighter note, Break a Leg, PTB! You guys kick ass!

Hey ya'll, Rick here... We're ready and psyched for the trip across the ocean. I know we're gonna see alot of friends we've made on our trips and I get the feeling it's gonna be an awesome tour.
For those of you who don't know, this one is gonna be fun but a little bit of a challenge, because Eric and I are playing with Rick Derringer as a 3 piece, taking a 15 minute break, and going back out as the PTB. (Different shirt!?)

It's 5 am here and we're leaving in 9 hrs, but as usual, I don't really get much sleep the night before a long trip, so I'm taking the opportunity to say hi to everyone in the PTB family. HI!

Anyway, wish us luck and see you all soon!!

Rick

ps We'll try to post from there to let you know the progress.

Shiva:
I saddened by your post regarding Caesar Diaz. His amps were simply incredible. I met guitarist Duke Levine years ago while he was on tour with Mary Chapin Carpenter. Duke is an amazing guitar player - his tone and style are a cross between Vince Gill and Larry Carlton. I remarked how great his rig sounded (he also was playing a '63 sunburst strat)and he showed me his Caeser Diaz amp after the show. These amps weren't mass produced like Fenders, Riveras, etc., but from what I heard, they put all of them to shame. Caesar will be missed greatly - he was a true innovator.

To mikemudd49:
Thanks for the info on Riggs' guitar setup. I originally thought he played a '65 (judging from the decal)but realized that the same decals were placed on late '64 models as well. His sunburst strat is actually a three color, not tobacco sunburst as stated. Fender added red and yellow to their sunburst by 1960. Do you work on tremolo strats now?

The week ended that way as well. I learned earlier of another good one we lost on Friday - Cesar Diaz, amp tech and guru for SRV, Bob Dylan, and other noted classic rock artists. Cesar was one who would attach a pic of him and SRV in reply to posts to him regarding his bootique amps and pedals (he sent me one of him at SRV's gravesite with him kneeled at his tombstone). My mom always said these things happened in threes - there does seem to be something magical about the number 3.
