To John Howe:
What is Chuck Ruff up to now? I remember him from the Edgar Winter Group. Great drummer! The interplay Between him and Edgar on timbales playing "Frankenstein" was awesome.

I personally don't think Pat sounds like the Winter brothers. Although Edgar and Johnny share the bluesy growl when they want to, they don't sound alike either (Edgar has a much jazzier slant). Edgar's vocal chops are unbelievable. Listen to the White Trash "Roadwork" CD. He sings the #$%@^& out of "Tobacco Road". And this was a "live" record! I don't think Pat could cop those vocal inflections, nor Johnny. Thank goodness all three have distint styles; all good!

To Anonymous:
I know Jerry Riggs has several '65 Strats. I was referring to the sunburst one in the "Boom Boom" video. They're definitely EMG's and they certainly sound like them. EMG's as covers wouldn't make sense, especially on top of a stock Strat pickup with pole pieces. I recently saw a picture of him with a burgundy colored '65 and a black pick guard with the stock Strat pickups.
I believe this is the same Strat that he played in with "Riggs". I own an original '65 and the pickups that came with it are still the best.

Lighter fluid on the finish? That's interesting. (I hope you don't smoke!)I've actually used Glass Plus on the fingerboard and it worked. Others say extremely light sanding followed with linseed oil.

Here's a question for you. I unfortunately spilled a little super glue on the body of one of my Strats. I was trying to glue the plastic tip to the selector switch. My guitar tech says it has to be gently sanded off. Any solvents would eat through the polyurethane (super glue remover, etc.).
Any suggestions?

Thanks

It depends on how many I can get into for free.....

I'm planning on at least 2 for sure - Anaheim and Yucaipa. Yucaipa is the gig to see down here. The Crossroads is one of the coolest places to see a show.

I'll probably break down and see the rest of the So Cal shows too.

I was so lookin forward to seeing Pat and the band
last week that I literally blew out the artery in my left leg, no thanks to that b**** nurse that could care less until she had a pint of my blood dripping from her forehead, serves her right l.o.l.
So needless to say I didn't make it, as not to spoil my sweeties fun he reluctantly agreed to still see the show and let me know how it was.
Verdict was ? Pat and the band were on fire, very high energy, they were feeling it, so of course that made me even more bummed. and I know we get our share of shows here in the funshine state but I need a fix so I hope to see them before 2 long
Thanks again Mr Howe, My honey told me the directions were perfect and he never told me that before , at least when it comes to directions,
everyone talk at ya later.

ginbel- Good techs have the knowledge to solve BG's problem.
BG- No real need to send it in to Fender, they'll just have the same tricks available that the above would have unless there is an agreement to replace the body. Might be worth speaking with someone in the custom shop though. Chances are you'll be able to do it yourself given the right material. Super glue...??? It is common for them to come loose..I just replaced mine. I began to wonder about this BG brother...I wonder how a solder gun using a thick wettened cloth over the spot would loosen it then allow you to clean it off using a non-abrasive solvent of some type. Imagine you would have to work fast before the glue sets again but who knows?? What 'ya think stratcat??

Hey BG-

I understand how anxious we guitarists get when working on our axe - cannot possibly happen to me, it will be really quick, etc. Folks... when working on your guitar inside or outside it's always good kharma [Hey this the closest I could come to relating this to good kharma.] to cover it with a cotton cloth, baby rag (which you should have anyway to use to clean your finish with on occasion) or the like. I once had a couple spirits and in the act of unscrewing my tremolo off my bridge to place back in its case I carelessly, arrogantly twirled it from one hand to another, to place in the case, instead, it landed on my Ibanez beautiful lipstick red finish , putting a dent in the body. I no longer own the guitar but I could manage to get most of the dent to come to the surface however, I could not get it to come flush with the rest of the body as a guitar tech told me should happen.
BG- uhhh...hmmm...been meaning to ask you what is up with the digitech RP-1?? I owned one years ago and do not ever regret getting rid of it.! Just curious. We all have our preferences and decisions to make.

The cryo has hardened. So sanding it is. Wet sand(obviously carefully) with 600 to start and be ultra anal about keeping the paper wet and clean. Eventualy work your way up to 3000 grit and finally polish. This is the method used to sand the dings on the finest pool cues(not wet) and it will work on the guitar also. If I were you I would just send it to Fender to be fixed.

Hey BG....you might wanna try "Goof Off" on that glue. You can get it at Home Depot or any hardware store. It won't eat up the poly if you don't rub too hard, and I use it on all the finished surfaces. It's great for taking off old duct tape "mung" and cleaning stomp boxes and amp face plates. I never used it on crazy glue, so I'm not sure if it will work. Let us know.

For the guy who spilled super glue on his body. In the auto body shop to remove glue and decals we use a ppg product that does this and does not hurt the paint. It can be purchased at any auto body paint supply store or shop. It kicks butt and We Miss PTB in Central CA. First saw him in Fresno in late 70's and still flashback. We have a blues festival every year and in Three Rivers also. Come on down, you can stay at my place and party in the country.

Hey BG, interesting story for you on that Burgundy Strat. It was stolen along with one of Pat's Melody Makers after a gig in New Orleans a long time ago, and years later, a detective called up Pat and said that they had recovered the guitars, which were then returned. How's THAT for a happy ending???

Well Hello to all you shadetree guitar techs out there, LOL, I have a suggestion for the super glue, Why don't you email www.locktiteproducts.com and ask someone at the company that makes it, I am sure someone has some insight on your problems instead of trying anything that might mess your finish up.

Here's a new dilemma:
After using the same chrome slide for 15 years, I watched in horror as it fell off my amp - rolled down the stage - and proceeded to fall through a small opening at the end of the stage. In my haste to get the equipment into my van after the gig, I forgot to retrieve the slide. I don't remember the brand name, but I wore it on my ring finger and I think the length was no more that 2 inches. The Dunlop slides are too long. Can anyone else think of another brand that might work?

Thanks

Hey Strat:
I'm glad Jerry's guitar was returned. It's a sad situation when an instrument gets stolen. The fact that it was taken from a dressing room really sucks. And I've learned the hard way (on the gigs that I now do)that it's usually someone who's supposed to be working "with" you on a gig (staff, set up crew, etc.)I've never had an instrument stolen, but if you misplace anything (even for a minute)at these so called 5 star hotels down here after a gig, it's gone! I had a diamond ring stolen from my garment bag and a $12 tuxedo button cover. The idiot probably thought it was some exotic stone or something! This doesn't compare at all to a $10,000 '65 Strat, but it does make you alot more cautious about the safety of your gear on a gig.

BG
Posted on Sunday, February 03, 2002 - 12:25 am:

Hey 50:
The RP1 is antiquated by today's standards, but I use the unit strictly for the delay, chorus, compression, and reverb. The overdrive sounds are terrible (I usually use the amp's overdrive and occasionally a tube screamer) but the RP1 has individual places to step on for the above effects. It's like turning stomp boxes on and off while keeping the settings intact. I play in a chameleon type situation so the setup has to be simple and quick as I change tones on the guitar and on the floor frequently during a song. The newer units are much hipper, but some of them use a bank up and down method while the pedal portion of the devices do double duty (chorus and reverb is shared, etc.) That would be a pain in the ass for me in a gig situation. Basically the RP1 is used in a stomp box format without the patch cords. On some of these South Florida corporate gigs, the weather conditions can be horrendous when you're playing outside. Sand constantly gets into the unit, and if that doesn't happen then it will rain in the middle of the gig, or it's 90 degrees in January. After all the abuse from the elements, it's held up after all these years.
For those of you that live in Washington State or Vancouver, I envy you!

I just purchased a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe - cool amp. Has anyone else tried this amp?

Hey Everybody:
Thanks very much for the tips and ideas regarding my super glue blunder. The first thing I did was call Fender. I asked them if they knew of a way to remove the glue before I went the sanding route. They were of no help. I'm familiar with goof off. I had to use it on my pink Strat after an extremely hot beach gig in Key Largo. The sweat from my hawaiin shirt bled right into the back of the body. The back of the guitar turned blue as that was the color of the shirt I was wearing! I used goof off as a last resort. It took the stain off immediately. The pink paint was intact but the urethane came right off. My guitar tech said he has to sand the glue off, but as he's 70 miles away from me, I was hoping to do this myself with a safe solvent. The auto parts store angle is interesting. What is the name of the product? Since the pink Strat has already been operated on, I can use it as a guinea pig.

I was half expecting, all night long, to turn around and see you there. You live within walking distance of the 4th&B don't you? I didn't even know that you were into BÖC. They play there at least once a year and I make it a point to never miss the 4th&B show as it has proven to be one of the best places to see BÖC, and I've seen a lot of BÖC shows.... Eventhough I don't keep track of these things, but I'd say that I've probably seen more BÖC shows then PT shows.

BOC have been around for over thirty years & make it look so easy. It was a near sellout show & they brought the house down!!!

Cool deal, Rich! You're the heck, as far as I'm concerned

Two featured ol' PT - one where he brought some other famous musicians to my old house in Seattle for a party (can't remember for sure who - you know how dreams are), but as we got ready to jam the house slowly started falling apart and we never really got a song off! hahahaha!! Seems like a few guys ended up partying with the honeys next door. The next one was a tour dream where Pat was driving some of us around in like a circa 50's funky faded red International four door sedan with wings (imagine that -- I did!). There was a beach by the hotel, and I almost missed the ride out of town but Pat waited for me to check out of my room. goofy, huh? that's a first! PT cruising around in my brain!! I don't remember who all was there, but I'm pretty sure I saw gREG, Cindy, Ed, Daryl, Gettin Bette and Darren -- you were all gone when I woke up, so might have missed some. Woke up thinking how cool that was!

Lighten up, everyone -- the crap is biodegradable

Just can't let it get in the way of my partying Florida style!!! I'm going to try to firm up a time window this week. Only thing we have to fear is rain. When it rains it's normally not for long though and that time period is not during the rainy season. If you've never been... Orlando is really nice. That area in particular is real friendly. It's so clean downtown(in that area). No trash, not even cig butts. I still like the gulf better, but hey Pat's not playing there!

Hey anyone want to be in a Pat Travers DVD? We will be in Orlando from March 27th through April 4th shooting and recording a video of Pat and the boys. This video will be a two camera shoot and will be recorded for CD also. Also included will be some behind the sceens stuff and interviews. We are not sure yet which two nights out of all the shows we are going to work with, but we will let you know. We sure would like to fill the place with some screaming dedicated fans. We also would like some help with some aspects of the project. John Howe, can you email us? We posted this as early as we could as to give some notice. It's not exactly going to be MTV or something, but it will be very cool and capture the moment and of course all the dedicated fans. This would be sold worldwide and at Pat's shows. Kinda like your 15 minutes of fame! We would really like to thank everyone for helping us as you did/have. Even the dickheads! They made it easier to go this way! This is really the type of thing we wanted to do all along. Too cool!!!! So if you have something (positive) to contribute let us know. Rich

I was actually impressed with Anusymouth's earlier post that offered what sounded like POSITIVE, HELPFUL comments. It's pretty clear now that someone's got a tampon applicator confused for a 2" slide, becasue it keeps getting stuck on the G fret

(sigh) Dear Anoymous:

Please put your head back in your ass and go away!

I'll bet your dog doesn't even like you. My dog wouldn't even BITE you! Do you cause this much angst on the Abba site, wehre we all know you spend the rest of your time? Oh, okay, deny it. And waht would really be funny is if you tried to scrape up enough intellect -- wait -- let me sound it out -- IN-tuh-licked to try to defame me as well. Naturally you would completely ehm-BARE-ass yourself, becasue I too am far better than you could ever hope to me. So, nighty-night little bitch. If I ever catch you humping my tree I'm gonna beat the trash out of you -- and it would take awhile

Of course, everyone who knows me knows I'm laughing uncontrollably by now, just like they are.

ANYWAYYYYYYYYYYY

So, Go Ginbels, and Anos. SUCKS! Go Patriots -- AFC rules. gREG is a fargin bastage, and Tim is a long lost bud. Musta dropped him behind the couch

gEEZ, I get sick for a few days and LOOK what happens! new shows, Fiesta Bowl, more techno than my brain can handle, and no more cd's!! Well . . . as it happens I got mine when the gittin' was good. PLUS my brother Scott laid three vinyls on me when I was in town - Heat int the Street, Go For What You Know and Crash and Burn! WHOO HOO! Already had them on cd, but VINYL?????? The covers are thrashed but the albums are mint! Some idiot didn't know what it had, so apparently let the covers get wet and they stuck together. Or maybe . . . NAH!! I'm gonna pretend that wasn't an option! Pink Strats and all . .

Yeah, how 'bout them Patriots?? Kinda poetic

Yo Greg, do you really know what you're saying!!
Enviting us in the house?! G-sus, what an offer and you don't really know us....LOL.
Speak to the band about us, or did you already, haha. Maybe you reconsider then, LOL.
Would be great if we could make it, well, who knows?
And ED, all those dates in the Universal Studio's, these are a lot of gigs!
Is it cause of the new cd or is it a good warming up for Europe?! haha. Just curious...

Ahhhh...yes... Ian, that is the perfect solution! LOL. Man your a pisser!! Yeah, let's end/start the year with a least partially new setlist. That would be a great way to start 2003! By the way... from no on we are only offering Live shows and merchandise to sell for Pat. Finally got tired of all the S@#$! So now ALL of our stuff is 100% legit. So no f'ing stupid questions about copyrights and who gets the profits!. Pat owns 100% of all of this stuff! PERIOD! So STILL he gets the proceeds! This should also serve to shut up some of the idiotic question we see posted here and the need to defend us.(thanx, by the way to every one that did/does!!!!). So the studio CDs we were selling are officially no out of print. Pat will no longer have them at the shows. So now the whiners can sit back and wait for Polydor to release them. You'll die of old age before that happens! For some unknown reason, people are under the impression ALL old lps will eventually be released throught the record company in digital format. This is just not so. There are literally thousands upon thousands of artists and thier perspective works that will never again see the light of day. Hope you got yours while you could. So I'm sure the a#$holes are sitting back and saying "Ha, we win" Well really the fans lose. There are no winners in this. Us... we're glad for the break and sorry for the fans, who will never have the opportunity to experience Pat's work to it's fullest. We will now have the much needed time to do the live DVDs and live CD shows and some cool merchandise. So sonn to be posted on this site will finally be a merchandise page or link or something. One final thought....we have found there is an awful lot of people that are concerned with Pat getting money. We very strongly encourage you to see him at a show and hand him some personally!! We are also considering setting up a P.O.Box so Pat can receive the funds from those that are so concerned. This way you can send cash, money order or check directly to Pat. LOL! I just wonder.....? What on earth are the people that have been harassing us the past year going to do now? You know, it was the posting here, and then of course reading your posts just to find out how important you feel by everyones hatred toward you, and then there was the checking of our ebay auctions, then followed by the emailing of our auction winners to tell them they just got ripped off, then the emails to eBay and the record company... and so on... WOW, geeez, what to do now? You might have to get a life!! LOL!

Hey BG, i got a 7" Makita disc sander with a 16grit disc on it, that will take care of the glue in the wink of an eye and then afterwards you may have a wee bit o body work to perform on yir geetar. But hey, at least the glue will be gone, lol. If that fails you could try an 8lb mallet and a cold steel chisel, but you better eat your wheaties first. Seriously, you could try sealing off the area around the problem leaving nothing showing but the problem and apply paint stripper in small doses to see what that does. Use body shop masking tape and 1mm plastic sheeting, making sure your tape is on tight. If that fails then just throw the damn thing in front of an oncoming freight train and then go drink about 20 beers in a bar and you'll never know you even had a guitar problem. Hope this is of some help to you, lol. What are the chances of an almost completely different setlist for Tempe when it rolls around.

Hey strat- Was thinking about your compression/gate needs... have you looked into TC Electronics Triple-C rack unit? I didn't do an in-depth analysis of the unit but TC makes great products, as you know, in the same caliber as Lexicon. Also, PT uses a dbx Compressor which I believe is the 256XL (ginbel, correct me on this if I'm incorrect). Years ago when I owned a JCM800, I had a rack-mounted dbx 1 space compressor/gate unit. The 266 I believe, moderately priced for a compressor, multi-functionable, not high-end just something that would do the job. Anyways, dbx probably makes the best rack-mounted units on the market. I'm sure you'll find the one you're looking for on their website.

RE: Set lists. Rick, Eric and PT DO NOT I repeat DO NOT throw out that medley of songs (Rock'N Roll Susie, etc.) you guys have done in the past. No better way than to combine those songs without playing them in their entirety. Just sounds too good, nice transitions, chord progression, combined soloing, etc. You guys play that like that medley was in itself a song! Can we hear from other PT fans who can testify to this. Opening up the set with Hooked on Music has always been a favorite of mine[or is that "drug for me"?]. Really sets the mood for things to come.

Rick- Great hearing from ya! Don't know if you remember, but I thought I could help you place my face with the name. I handed you that sharpee that you used to mark the settings on the opening band's bassist Ampeg head at the Auburn Events Center after your soundcheck. I remember how worried you were about the turnout due to a blunder in listing the wrong location for the concert on the website.

Richard- The posts on the website are from "lay" people that seem to be short on words and detail. Nice to know it's out there just wouldn't really recommend it myself. I don't own a JCM900(IMO, the 900's were Marshall's most poorly produced head- solid state based, not as much of a valve-based designed platform like others from the past hails that Marshall famed tone.) so I couldn't say if those settings are accurate (so many other variables to account for that were not mentioned in that post). Also, see below...this would make me more skeptical of the settings.

This is something I've been meaning to post... the last time I saw PT playing through his 900 I was able to get up close enough to confirm what I thought I saw before...PT's JCM900 is modded. PT has another input drilled on the left of the chasis by the power/standby rocker switches. Yet another gearhead session talk. It would be interesting to find out what for and by who. Look at Cindy Barton-Lewis's Club 66_17 pic. Thx for the pic Cindy!

What's up ya'll, Rick here. I agree 50MK, that medley rocks and it does feel like one great song with lots of intricate movements, and Hooked on Music, no matter how tired we are, always kicks us into gear. Good call.

The Lodi Bowl will be with Eric and me, but the New Port Richey is just Pat sitting in for a few songs with another band. Sorry Kim.

Mexico was cool, horseback riding on the beach. Randal and his wife looked like they knew what they were doing, but I had to make sure gREG didn't fall off his horse. It was like riding one and a half horses...just kidding g.

The Universal Studios gigs are gonna be fun, but if anyone is coming and is wondering what dates would be best, there's gonna be some special partying early April for my b-day. wink, wink.

See ya'll soon and keep the party goin'

Blue Collar Man ??? What's up with that ??? Not that I'm complaining but why do a Styx tune ??? Doesn't matter though, I'd show up even if the whole set consisted of Barney music. Cause lets face it, any time Pat covers another bands material, it's always better then the original. Will post some sort of a review when I get back to work on Thursday. The next day I bought the album, and 25 years later, we're both still here.

I wonder if the PT managers, Ginbel, could give us some info on a new album. Ginbel you are doing a great job producing Pat, but I have not heard anything lately. Anyway, I played long ago with PTB in San Antonio Texas. They were great. Ginbel, do you expect to go in the studio soon? If I am mistaken, you all owe us an album. Is a guy named Randall on your staff? If so, he is a great guitarist from what I hear (although not so good looking like Jerry was). Let us know Ginbel, you are doing a great job as PTBs producer..lets just get a new album..work em dudes!!

Looks like BOC will be in south Florida in Mid April, so I`ll check that out.

By the way, Rick Derringer is a full fledged bible quoting christian rocker now, I kid thee not!!! Just check out his website, www.rickderringer.com. He seems real happy and always was, is, and will be a great musician.

So, no new album! Who would buy it besides the fans on this page?? That does not justify putting an album out. With the Britneys, the Insincs, etc., Pat is going to have a hard time convincing labels that he is going to make them a profit. Let's face it folks, PT is underground now and really, who would sign him...I say if he wants to get a CD out to do the blues thing again with studio musicians such as Liberty or that other guy from Canada. Hell, it is better than nothing! Also, when you are in your late 40s you would rather stay home and take Alka Selzer than tour....admit it or not, that is the truth..the only reason the Rolling Stones still do it is because all they have to do is show up! Everything is setup..they are real rock stars as are Aerosmith..Pat's best bet is to just admit that it is over for record deals etc., unless he submits to doing cover blues again....

Speaking of rock and roll, how does a band know if the stage is level? Give up? The drummer drools out of both sides of his mouth.

3-F - I thought about that possibility of DI and mixing it in at the boards. I agree. It almost sounds like there was manual manipulation at the boards to attain that precise of a sweeping action with the ADA. However, I can also see where the use of the two echoplexes (used like an ADT as PT said), timed how he explained it and synched with the ADA set correspondingly, might possibly produce similar results.? PT did say that his setup in the studio is "Basically the same way ...on-stage." How similar would be the question. I am still wondering how the Leslie would come into play or effect it. As soon as I get my VHT amp back I'm going to try and run two delays and ADA post-amp and see if it will yield similar results excluding any Leslie-type effect.

Hey All -

A hot, great, sweaty night @ the Lodi Bowl!

I did not meet a soul who didn't have a great time. All the peoples singing along with PTB during the show was way cool.

From the show-

A stage light cooked PT and fried his mind into little tiny pieces. Hot and sweaty enough to stick your pick on your cheek. Best PT quote was 'Can you put a gel on this light? It's killing me.' Elijah gets a drum kit soon! PT is unsure of his sanity about this decision. Something about the stage recently being painted and throwing away their shoes after the show. Shoe sticking to the stage sound effects compliments of PT. PT & B played very well, top shelf. Nothing new in the set, but I never tire of it, PTB rocks! Great Stuff! I'm still stoked!

I briefly met PT, Rick N and Specks with the PTBROXX license plate, too cool!

Thanks PTB!

Hey JB from Texas, didn't catch the performance, glued to the CBC, & any sign of Hockey. Watching TV is all I,ve been able to do, since I crashed my 700 Yamaha SRX at a high rate of speed. Broke my right humerus, they had to installed a plate & pins. Almost broke my left arm, left leg & right ankle, nice eh. I was a minute from home, flying along a flat farm field, at 11PM, it's dark. Not to worry been down a this route a thousand times. I was laying a whomping on my buddy & his Ski-doo mxz 700. Thought to myself, traveling at warp 9, know problem been down this field a thousand times, no bumps out here. A few minutes later, I was in the air. Hit the only bump in the field. Left ski hit a clump of dirt at 95 miles, the sled flew in the air to the right. I kept going straight hit the handle bars as i left the machine, this turned my body around. I was then flying through the air with my back towards the ground, I landed 80 feet later, slid another 50, machine was 60 feet past that. My right arm hit the ground first followed by my left. Someone was watching my that night, never been so lucky. My own personal Crash & Burn if you will.

Hey Jimbo Tex, missed the skating, so I can't help you...sorry! Great choice if it's true!!

Hey 2 Chads...How's the benefit gig panning out?
Lost your email in the archives, so thought I'd track you down here to see how things went.

50MKII....Got your email, and have been pondering it. Since we're talking studio as opposed to live, maybe PT recorded a clean signal,(DI'ed, mic'ed or otherwise), and added the killer flange at the board during the mix??? ADA or otherwise? Thus increasing the ability to manipulate the settings manually through the board as required per the specific song at the time? When considering the albums' recorded versions, the precision in timing of the flange sweeps suggests to me there was some manual manipulation of the settings to tag it the way he did. Such as the final flange at the end of "My Life Is On The Line", for example. Also by adding the effect from the board, you're more likely to get a more dramatic feel from the effect. Maybe in the old arena days, for live gigs he would use the ADA with the Leslie cabinet(in stereo)for a somewhat close, general assimilation of his studio settings. I certainly could be way off base here of course. It's just a consideration. Speak up gearheads...Whattaya think?

The Solo album was done by Ginbel so why not do the this part studio part live album through them. It' been two full years since Don't Feed The Alligators throughout the nineties we had something virtually every year get back on the same track, us fans are hungry for a new rockin album.

First chance I've had to post a message since I rocked my ass off at the Lodi Bowl in Cheeseland. WOW! Great show! Tight band and PT's chops were as sharp as ever. Been a long time since I've seen PT and I was impressed with how good his voice still sounds. Too many rockers loose some of the cleanliness in their vocals over the years. Not so for PT. No doubt---PT ROCKS!

In response to Sandy and Alka-Seltzer. If you have not seen Pat Travers live recently; bring something other than Alka-Seltzer, cause after you get blown away by a kick-booty show, yer gonna need some medicine to calm you down. I had not seen him in awhile, and let me tell ya, he looked great and played and sang as well, if not better then the late 70's.

Hey Fhead, you are right about Scott Travis. That boy sure can play. I just saw him with Judas Priest a couple of weeks ago. Good time keeper. Instead of dissin Pat, why don't you go out and see him play live ??? His playing is as good or better then ever.

Hey gREG...If my memory serves me right, Pat only sings a little pre-chorus bridge in "Get The Funk Out". No guitar. I do remember hearing it on the radio when it first came out before Extreme really broke big. And I remember thinking how much the singer (Gary Cherone) sounded like Pat in that little section of the song, only to find out after reading the album liner credits later on that it actually WAS Pat singing just that little bridge. It was around that time and era when Pat was post Polydor, but still before "School Of Hard Knocks" and the Shrapnel/Blues Bureau stuff was released, so Pat was REALLY obscure (but not forgotten!) at that point. I found hearing him on the radio again quite refreshing. And it was good to see Pat get his due respect from the up and coming new rock bands of that time as well...

HERE, HERE!! PTB ROXXX!!!!!! Did Pat play guitar, or just sing on EXTREMES "get the funk out?" Listened to the Blues tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughn and Pat just SMOKES on that CD!!!! He should play that SRV song live in his set. Anybody heard what new songs PTB might be adding to their arsenal this summer? g

Haven't posted much in the past year or so but still check in to see whats new. Thank you Ed,Rich and Bruce for making it possible to keep up with whats new with our favorite musician. If anyone goes to the Indy show I'll be the big ugly guy with the black PT t-shirt. I'll be with 3 pretty women(wife, sis, and daughter). Stop and say Hi. Please lay off the crappy posts'. Without Rich I would not have the latest release(No one would). Please show Ed respect by not using his hard work to sling crap. There is no reason to come on this site and rip Pat. He doesn't do anything to deserve it. He is very approachable at shows and has produced hundreds of good songs for everyones enjoyment. I'll stop preaching.

Hi all

been a while since I've visited, what with the new job and house buying and all....a month didn't make a dif though....I see F-head still has no life.

hEY gREG, about the SRV tribute...what's Pat covering? I'm going to have to look for that CD

I like some of what Pat covers. Some stuff it seems like he's fighting through though. I felt that way about "...Alligators"....I just have trouble getting into that CD...I like a couple of the covers...but over all, that CD just doesn't get much play time around here...mostly I listen to Lookin' Up and the live Solo.

Sure looking forward to the new CD and DVD. (hint hint HINT HINT already !!!)

And hey F-head...sure PT may have "forgot what he used to know", but that's OK cuz that all that means is that he's progressing. Maybe you should, too. I mean, how many years can you legally stay in the first grade?

Tell you what...he probably HAS forgotten more about guitar slinging than all of us know, and that just makes him all the better!!! BTW, doesn't matter if it was recorded in a parking lot, cuz ya know what, last time I saw him that's exactly where he was playing! Gil's a witness!

People, guitarists and bands come and go, and yet, who always comes back to our CD players... but PT!!! Just something about that sound...

Eric, it was good to see you comment here. It's great when the artist mingle with us little people. (BTW - point of rememberance for you - I'm the guy from Buffalo that won, and promptly gave away, the Clapton tix - I still can't believe the locals had the audacity to ask PT to give away tix for another concert going on at the same time!!! - ah...such is Buffalo). Best wishes to you, Rick and Pat. Go ahead and buy those guys a beer and put it on my tab! All of us here just appreciate you guys so much. You have no idea how...important...the music you guys make is to us. Don't think that because your a "side man" that you are any less important to us than PT. Yes, he is the driving force, but with out you and Rick, it just wouldn't work. He found a couple of diamonds in the rough in you two. I have to say that I am jealous. Here, I've been following PT since probably before you were born, and there you are touring with him! You guys are blessed. Take care, be safe, and come back to Buffalo around Sept 14, cuz that's my B-day (40th!!!) and I want to see you guys then!!!

Sorry for the slightly drunken , heartfelt ramble.

party on dudes!

and remember people - especially you F-head

While I refuse to acknowledge the guy exists anymore, I'd like to add commentary to the issue which Eric and BG (and others) have recently touched on. I found it interesting that one of the shredders that the guy gushes over was backing up Nelly Furtado on the Grammy awards last night. Did anyone else notice Steve Vai playing the quiet guitar accompaniment alongside Nelly during her live performance? He used a clean tone throughout the performance, and not one iota of shred technique was used. I wonder if this guy now considers his "shred hero" a wuss because of last night's performance? Just goes to show what the guy fails to understand. There is SO MUCH more to music and guitar playing than 40 million 64th notes per song.....Even Steve Vai acknowledges this point!

Here's an additional bit of irony for the guy...Mr. Big's power ballad "To Be With You" is playing on the radio as I type this. Not a hint of shredding, finger picked acoustic all the way, and it's Paul Gilbert! So does this make Paul a wuss as well? Looks like he's down to one last "shred hero"...Buckethead.

Eric and BG...your commentaries were spot on and I commend both of you!

My new slogan at this site is...IGNORE THE IGNORANTS!!!!!

And as always...PTB is king!

Hi FHead!
Nobody of any substance musically cares about Paul Gilbert, Racer X, BucketHead, etc. Again let me state that the days of the non feeling, robotic guitar shredders are over! So are the eighties! You really need to get that. The players that can say it all with one note will always stand the test of time. Technically Paul Gilbert is a great player - but so is Steve Lukather, Neal Schon, Steve Farris (from Mr. Mister)Eric Johnson, etc. The difference is that the above three (among many others) actually feel what they play. Gilbert appeals to players like himself. Great technically, but with the personality of a cadaver.
By the way, I was in LA recently - Sorry I missed you. Which Denny's was it that you work at?

Hello Fhead. I'm not calling you that in any form of disrespect. I have just gathered that is your username. My name is Eric and I am currently drumming with the Pat Travers Band. Very proudly at that. I recently came on to check what the FANS are saying and couldn't help but notice your very negative posts. Have you read the most recent edition of Modern Drummer? If you have you would surely remember the article in which Scott Travis comments on how HAMMERHEAD by the Pat Travers Band was one of his most influential songs ever! I'm only bringing this to your attention because your supreme knowledge of music and musicians seem endless, and I am sure that more information could only fuel your desire to bad mouth Scott Travis's web site about his poor taste in influences. I am happy to help you and happy bad-mouthing to you. ERIC
