David Coverdale is a cool dude. WE had dinner last bnight at the Hyatt Lone Eagle in Incline Village. He is going to do a little Deep Purple thing for me up here and I asked if PT could open. He said that would be great. We ate the lobster and drank the wine and he played me two tunes he was working on for feedback with Richie on guitar. They were like old Purple tunes. One called You Better Get Going and the other Get Out a My Way. Rockin. Says Richie is going to work again with the purple. Ed, email me personally, I'm not saying anything on this board with the couple of malcontent, overspoken dudes that constantly post their three mile stories on here. If it doesn't have to do with PAT TRAVERS then I'm not interested. Others feel the same way I'm sure - BLU

Who's got the Master of the concert that became 'Go For What You Know'? Polydor? PT?

I know PT played "Life in London" and a bunch of other tunes. That should have been a 2LP release.

Anyone know if PT can get the Master from Polydor?

Ed, have you ever asked PT about this?

There's also a complete concert of the Radioactive tour. Polydor was supposed to release it as a 2LP set, but instead they released 'Black Pearl'.

Rumor has it that it's going to be released as a 2CD set next year. The sound quality surpasses 'Go For What You Know'!

"Radioactive Live"

Now that would be awesome. In fact I'd like a full length top quality release from every tour of every Polydor release.

We already have:

King Biscuit Flower Hour -Hot Shot Tour
Black Pearl Live and BBC Radio 1 -Black Pearl Tour
BBC Radio 1 Live -Crash & Burn Tour
Live-Go For What You Know -Heat In The Street Tour

Even these could be better if they were the full show. :)

Majestic Rock's CD re-issue of Pat Travers' first four polydor albums has been pushed up to 11/17/3.

Can't wait, especially for Pat Travers debut and Makin' Magic. God it's been way too long waiting for these.

Blu: Here are two more Bay Area Tribute bands you may want to consider!

Powerage (AC/DC Tribute band) and Spacement (Pink Floyd Tribute band)

Don't know if you are still considering doing the Tribute Band thing, but thought I would share the info with you. I myself have not seen these bands, but some friends have and seem to like them

Oh yea, and while I was in Hollywood we stopped at this record store Amboea??? on Sunset and I saw 3 or 4 PT not for release albums one of them was titled the "songs you missed" I think they were Polydor labels???? There were two others that I cannot think of the name now?

have a cool weekend, Hammer and Hummerheads!!!

I'll be gettin' all wet in the Pacific Northwest -- look for me at the Seahawks - daBears game! I'll be hangin' out somewhere by the Urlachers -- I went to high school with Brian's uncle Mike, so Bryan's also from my alma mater -- Pasco High School. Go Seahawks! screw da Bears, and nevermind the PHS Bulldogs. Strat, hope we can pull it together. Call me and I'll let you know if I'm heading your way Saturday, or just roll by Grant's after work and if I'm coming that's where I'll be.

It was great seeing Gunther and Mike at the show too. It was like talking to two long time Pat Travers fans. I love to hear those "first time I saw Pat" stories!

I recall some of the lyrics from Crash And Burn being posted on here that I didn't understand before. It starts out with something like this:

Well some say this life is nothing more than pain.
It's pay out this and line up here it's all just too insane.
And I feel the blues a comin' down like rain.
My feelings are so complicated I wish I could explain.
Turn into words the way I feel.
I know I really need someone and I need something that's real.
But we can't stop this world from it's Crash And Burn. Crash And Burn.

Everyone feel free to correct me on that. I'll work on the second verse later when I have more time.

Ok, 2nd verse:

Loneliness becomes a way of life.
And you turn on your tv set, the shudder (or struggles?) all the strife. (Not sure on that)
But there are things to help you ease the pain.
You make that call he guarantees to paralyze your brain.
Turn into dreams the way you feel.
You know it's really all you need to pretend that it's real.

The rest is the chorus and keyboard solo.

Daddy Long Legs

(hah!)

Long and lean a picture of perfection
In his sleek black limousine
Never wrong he's got
All the right connections
Hot personality
Cassanova could not hold a candle
No Valentino too
Anything you want he knows just how to get it
Ain't nothing he can't do

Daddy Long Legs
For a price he'll get you what you need
Daddy Long Legs
Always satisfaction guaranteed

Leather boots and diamonds on his fingers
They sparkle and they shine
27 ladies in his harem (woo oo hoo!)
They'll have to wait in line
And pleasure is the nature of the business
He doesn't have a home, oh no-no
And heaven help that woman that tries to hold him
She's better off alone - Hah!

Daddy Long Legs
For a price he'll get you what you need
Daddy Long Legs
Always satisfaction guaranteed

Daddy Long Legs
For a price he'll get you what you need
Daddy Long Legs
Always satisfaction guaranteed

Ginbel

do you play any instruments?....playing by ear is great...what a thrill...especially when you work and work and finally finger it out! I remember the first song I figured out all those years ago...Snow Blind by Ace Frehley...been struggling getting so close...funny, it came to me when I was grocery shopping with Mom. Those were the days...

Once you play a while, there's only so many notes and chord progressions, you know? Sometimes you can pick up a song real quick just because of your experience, you can antipcate the changes and what not first time through....it's a blast....

much to my detriment though, I swore off buying sheet music cuz it often was incorrect....now I can't read music so well, all right, hardly at all...

These are what all the fuss was about a while ago, when I was saying I could not hand out copies of it. The "paint is still drying" on the release and initially will ONLY be available through the band at the gigs. The rest of the distribution is still in it's infancy with details to follow. I promise to post more later (after I get some rest). We are truly honored to be a part of this project!! High fives all around!Peace out. Rich

we can't stop the world from its

CRASH and BURN

in spite of it all, we're hanging in there. Several friends have been evacuated, but no homes lost to our inner circle. Sadly, many other families have lost all. Blood red sun through the clouds -- put on "Firehouse" by KISS, "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden or "Cities on Flame" by BOC to get the gist -- it's like being in Iraq, I guess. It was a very strange way to wake up yesterday morning -- the sky was ORANGE and so was everything else -- thought I woke up on Mars! Looks like the fires will be with us for days -- good thing the Santa Ana winds are dead right now or we'd be in even worse doodoo. UNBELIEVABLE -- the whole City is enveloped in smoke, and most of the city is shut down. Stuck my head out of the cloud of smoke (my own personal one)just in time to see Rich's announcement -- YEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear it - over and over and over and over and . . . one last thing -- all you cigarette smokers out there, PLEASE take heed and don't throw your burning butts out the window -- almost lost my house to that idiocy a couple of years ago and I suspect that at least one of these fires was stoked in the same manner. That's what ashtrays are for! To the boneheaded arsonist that they say started one of the big ones, may you endure all the pain that you have caused for others -- but you cannot repay anyone for the lives lost, •••••••

okay, I'm done. You all stay safe

Strike that.

One of my structural engineers lost his house in Crest. One of the nicest guys in the business. Also -- I haven't been able to confirm, but I'm afraid my good friend Wayne's nephew's place was incinerated at Lake Cuyamaca -- he had a great spread on top of the hill! I was just up there two weeks ago, planning a new outbuilding for his family's bi-yearly reunion. Geez, if it burned it's a plane shame. He had a cool mountain home, a guest house that was converted from an old trailer and done so well you'd never guess(t), a bitchin' wood shop with EVERY tool you could imagine, horse rings, and he was building a new barn with the framing probably just finished last week. Also had a full-on MILL, where he could cut his own lumber from trees felled on his own property, and had a D-9 tractor, an old fire truck (hopefully they were able to use it) and a few quad runners. Ed, eme and I'll send pics of what I took at my house during the fires and what others took from the fire line in Scripps Ranch. I also have some before shots of the Cuyamaca ranch, so once I get back up there I'll send you the before and afters if you want to post them for a short time.

So hot and dry here it's time for

Hey Steve! Glad you said that, because I thought it was this Saturday based on your LZ invite. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You must be catching up with me, huh? Did you hit 42? Have a drink on me (when I see you)

Hey, Steve! Drop me a quick email at CARLJ@AOL.COM and let's talk about Joe Bonamassa. He is pretty great, isn't he?

However, I am getting psyched up, I get to see the ultimate bluesman, Patrick Henry Travers, in just 48 hours! PT's playin', rockin' this lazy town of DC (more or less).

Look forward to partying with Rick and Eric and Rich and Nancy...and anyone else who can find their way to the show at Jaxx on Sat. night!

Have a great one all....

Carl (aka PurpleHaze62)

PAT TRAVERS
When I was twelve I got my first guitar from my uncle who owned a music store in Ottawa, Canada where my family had just moved to. I was just getting started when I heard either Purple Haze or Foxey Lady for the first time. Needless to say it completely blew my mind. And then when I saw the "Are You Experienced?" album with the picture of Jimi, Noel and Mitch on the cover it was like seeing people from another planet. Also the sound of the guitar was like nothing else anybody had ever heard at the time, or since for that matter.
My school mate, Stephen Peacock, had a set of drums in his basement at home so we would jam together and listen the album over and over again. Our parents thought we were nuts but didn't discourage us from trying to play music.
When "Axis, Bold As Love" came out I discovered that it was ok to be a bad-ass guitar player and write sensitive lyrics as well (Little Wing, Castles Made Of Sand, etc.).
When we heard that Jimi was going to playing the Capital Theater In Ottawa we immediately bought tickets.
I believe the show was March 19th 1968.
Having read about Hendrix smashing and setting his guitar on fire at the Monterey Festival I bragged to my friends that if he did that at the Ottawa show I would grab a piece of his guitar.
I had the aisle seat, 12th row at the theater and when Jimi and the Experience came on I went into a trance-like dream state. I had never seen one Marshall amp let alone three amps and six cabinets. It was the loudest thing I had ever heard in my life. Jimi was so cool looking with his green velvet outfit and, black with the silver chain, hat set just right on his afro hair-do.
He played a lot of the stuff from the first album and few things from Axis. But when he started into "Wild Thing" and was humping the amp and throwing the guitar around the place went nuts. He didn't actually break the guitar but he had it down on the stage and was pulling strings off it. Well that's when I completely lost my mind. I ran down to the front of the stage as did a bunch of other people. A broken string popped within reach and some kid grabbed it and it pulled the guitar forward. As the neck of the Strat came into my reach I grabbed for it. My hands were in a death-grip on Jimi's Strat! Unfortunately the strap was still around Jimi's neck and he was pulled forward along with the guitar. The next thing that happened was the drummer for the opening band, The Soft Machine, came running out of the wings and landed a fist on my jaw. This snapped me back to reality and I stepped away quickly just as huge fight broke out in front of the stage. Someone tried to steal Jimi's hat but they didn't get very far.
So anyway I got to touch Jimi Hendrix's guitar, with him attached to it, and I was a hero, albeit a foolish one, at school the next day. Years later I received a tape of the show I saw but it ran out before Wild Thing, so I don't have that infamous moment from my past anywhere but in my mind. I know I'll never forget The Experience.
