Had a great time though! PTROXX HARD!

Wejhead, you should have done what Sandy & I did, show up at the club at 11pm...just in time for a few drinks before Pat hit the stage.

It does stink that the headliners go on so late..especially during the week.

I saw the Tubes at a local dive a couple years ago. Fee was bitching to Roger what a dead crowd it was. He seemed to forget that most of the crowd were older (original fans) and had worked all day, then had to wait around 'til 11:30 to see them. That makes for a long day at our age!!!

Went to the Everett show Saturday night at Jimmy Z's. Got there a little after 9PM and had to sit through three crappy, sounding like distortion, metal banging bands while paying 4 bucks for every rum and coke I downed. I must say though that the bartender did make a good drink!!! The last band up before PT had a lead singer who couldnt even screech. Flippin horrible. I basically sat at the bar all night waiting for PT to come on. At midnight I finally made my way to the floor and stayed there for the entire 1 1/2 hours of PT rock. He played the standards like Hooked on Music, Makin Magic, Life in London, Stevie, Boom Boom, Snortin Whisky, along with a few blues tunes I hadnt heard before. And he even played RocknRoll Susie which I hadnt heard live in years. He and the guys also did a nice version of Born Under a Bad Sign. Pretty good show all in all, but there were a few moments of unwanted feedback which you could tell PT was disturbed by. One thing about PT that I will say again and again........whether he plays in a nice place in front of thousands or "slumming it" (PT's own words) at Jimmy Z (which I agree, was a dump), he ALWAYS comes to play and give his absolute best. Every time, no questions asked. Thats been my experience over 25 years of seeing him anyway. It was definitely a long night, and when the show was over and I turned around on the floor, the place seemed EMPTY!!!! I couldnt believe it but I deduced that most of the people were there to see the "trashy trio" as I called the other bands. The place was PACKED earlier and most of them had left and there were only what seemed like a handful left for PT. Thats Everett for ya. After dropping off my sister in Puyallup and driving home to Olympia, I finally hit the pillow at 3:50 AM. Long night..........and what a pleasure to wake up to Saddam in custody. May God bless all of our troops. Thank you very much.

I didnt get a chance to meet anyone there who posts here, must've missed ya. Perhaps next time?

Heres hoping that all of you have happy and healthy holidays............Peace

No, actually I am from Issaquah but I was making
a statement how for some the drive would be. A long ways, if from Olympia (as you had mentioned earlier). Issaquah is a ways too. And with
drinking, too far to go home (for me anyway in that condition). And I didn't really want to stay in that town overnight. eek!!!!!!! Too bad I missed all the hammerheads, tho.
Sorry about the Vodka swilling guy. Like I said,

Hello again, I appreciate the brutal and honest truth from everyone who posted in response of my earlier post. It's not like the first time I've ever heard it though. I am an alcoholic. It's what I do. I've been through a treatment center. This is the hand I've been dealt.I deal with it daily, and sometimes not very well. In my defense, please do not think of me as some kind of monster! I am a very nice person to be around, even when I am drinking. I am the happy, silly drunk. I have alot of friends, and would go out of my way to do anything for them. I encountered very few cars on the way home, not hundreds. I live in Mount Vernon, 30 miles north of Everett.A quiet drive home. And I would NEVER do anything like that concert goer in N.Y. did.I have never had a DUI/DWI.And I've been doing this for 22 years almost daily. So, once again, I reiterate, I'm not a monster. Just a rock fan who likes to party, (maybe too much sometimes) Thanks again , Dean Cleveland from Mount Vernon

Dean,

Being a happy drunk, helpful person, quite ride home, 22 years and yet to get caught/killed/commit vehicular homicide, etc., etc. is all good.

However, it does little to mitigate the fact that you drove at speeds in excess of 100 while you were stinking drunk.

My brother did the detox, AA, jail time, etc., and it didn't work for him. Strangely enough, what did work was a New Year's resolution in 1981, that he made while he was drunk on his ass.

He said the key was that he had decided that HE needed to stop. No one else was telling him, it was HIM.

He hasn't touched a drop since.

Don't give up on yourself. Keep trying.

Hey Coolman:
Thanks for the rundown on the Everett show. I am unsure how PT could rock that hard after the show in Portland the nite B4. The venue was probably on par with the joint in Everett. The openers were pretty good tho. The second act jammed real well, and were asked to stretch longer after going thru their set. They said what the heck do you mind if we repeat as we played all that we practiced! The crowd was OK with that and they sounded better the second time thru on most tunes. Pt did not disappoint. He opened strong and kept those of us at the edge of the stage straining for more. The set sounded about the same with the exception that he skipped Rock & Roll Suzie which is one of my favs. He opened with Hiway 61 and Voodoo Child then on to the classics that you mentioned. I would have liked to hear It makes no difference and the pain, but other than it was a very rockin show.
He mentioned that last time here in Portland (August) with Eric and Rick the promoter or the club stiffed him. Have you heard anything about that? I would be pissed if I played my ass off and did not get paid for it.
Pat did a nice meet & greet afterwards that is a great chance to get an autograph and a CD. He is a class act that Pat.
BTW, are you in the HVAC biz? I work with a manufacturers rep in Portland area.

On a review note.....sorry to see PT playing to few fans in crappy bars.....early shows are better for his fan-base since we all work....clubs just don't get it. God Bless PT, Eric and Rick......and of course all PT fans!

Dean, I was trying to be quite on this subject, and have been thinking about it.....My kids father is a happy alcoholic, like you he is not a mean drunk just a happy drunk, however, the ones you are hurting are the ones that love you! My kids at this point have no respect for their father who is still an alcoholic! He has been to drunk to remember their birthdays, he has been to drunk to remember Christmas, etc... I left him after my daughter was 16 months old (now 14) because I was not going to raise my children in that type of atmosphere! They are now watching their dad drink himself to the grave! Be careful, liver cirosus (don't know how to spell it!) will catch up early! Both his parents died of alcohol at the ripe age of 57 and 62!

Also, I work at a cemetery on the weekends helping families make arrangements and being by their side during the service, do you know how many survivors I have helped from their families being killed by a drunk driver!!! To many to count!!

You need to be smart about this, there are other people that are involved with those type of actions!

Dean, enjoy life to the fullest but hopefully you will see how people care and how it effects other and get some help! You sound like a very nice person who enjoys PT!!!!

Okay I am done being on the soap box!!

Texas Rich nice to hear from you! My friend Ginger, from Texas is coming out next month, so I won't be going out there until the summer!

Have a good one everyone!!

Dean,

Your frank & honest openess regarding your drinking is to be commended. This means you acknowledge you have a drinking problem. What scares me about how you've gone on to defend your actions appears that you seem proud of your situation and your actions. (Your defense of only having to drive 30 miles to Mt. Vernon instead of through Seattle is not valid. You're still stinking drunk, and driving 100+ mph. And your insight regarding not having been caught in over 22 years sounds like you think it is an honor or award) Please take a hard look at what your PT family is saying to you here. Lots of people are concerned and they have very valid points, but again I agree with Randy, no amount of discussion or intervention will do a bit of good until YOU yourself are ready to do something about it. And we've all read this story before, and it usually has one of two endings. First scenario, you'll eventually crash into an innocent victim(s) and killing them before you finally realize it's time to make changes (the time you'll spend in jail for manslaughter contemplating this and having no access to alcohol will aid in this) or scenario two is you'll have a solo crash killing yourself at which point all those that knew & loved you will say how they were surprised it hadn't happened sooner. Either ending sucks compared to making changes. Something to think about, as if you probably haven't already. It's a tough addiction to break, but my father was a mean drunk up until I was 22 years old. He got up one morning and stopped drinking cold turkey. He hasn't had a drop of alcohol in over 20 years now. It's uncommon to be able to stop like that, but stopping is possible. And hey, if our man PT can clean up addictions of his legendary magnitude, shouldn't THAT be some sort of inspiration? Something to think about!
Best of luck to you....

I used to drink... until they invented the funnel. Yep, nothing good will come out of putting yourself in harms way THAT many times. Hey, maybe it's some sort of sign for you. LOL... you KNOW you have a problem(with timing if nothing else) if you get so hammered you missed the best part of the show. I did that at a water festival we have here. Down on the water, yachts and speed boats, bands, sunshine, everybody is in bathing suits, drinking, Mardi Gras beads, the girls.... well you get the picture. I started at 8AM, I was out for the count at 12 noon. Too much direct sun and WAY too much rum. Well I have seen all the pictures of what I missed and heard the tales, but it sure ain't the same. No moral to this story I just missed out on a good time.

Hey RockinRon.......thanks for the Portland review. And YES!!! Pat did mention getting stiffed by a show promoter. I cant believe people would do that? Anyway, he also played Voodoo Child in Everett too along with the other tunes I mentioned, as well as a few more.

To answer your qiestion, YES I work in the HVAC business for a distributor based out of Portland, but work in the Seattle area. I do training, tech support, and troubleshooting for my clients. I basically get all the trouble or pissed off calls when things arent working as they should. So its my job to fix them.

I was having dinner with my sis last night and we were recounting the Everett gig. Its hard for me to believe that Pat would play a place like that?? Dont get me wrong, I can be comfortable in a five star lounge as well as a roadhouse dive, but for Pat to play such a dive??? I wonder if he's played there before?? Anyway, PT is a "real" person and very genuine, and he loves to play. I'd drive two hours to see him anyday.

Been reading about drinking and driving too. Bad business that is. Not being judgemental, as I am no saint and we ALL have issues and perhaps addictions on whatever level. But to drink and drive takes whatever little control I have over my life away from me and puts it in the hands of a drunk driver. I'm not down with that. Please get help, or when you drink, do it very close to home or just dont drive. ESPECIALLY during the holidays. I want to be alive on Jan. 1, 2004!!!!

Peace to all............

Gee Dean,

Was that you also at the Michael Schenker gig in Poughkeepsie, NY that sprayed beer all over everyone as well?

Hate to tell you this, but had I seen you driving down I-5 like that I'd have phoned your ass into the cops. It's already crazy enough driving the I-5 from Everett through Seattle without a blind drunk driver going 100 mph+.....are you insane?

I've never understood concert goers that drank so heavily they couldn't make it through a show. I'm always amazed at the ones passed out as everyone is leaving the venue. It's especially prevalent at outdoor shows. Concert tickets are really expensive these days! If you're gonna get that hammered, why spend the big bucks for a concert ticket that you won't even remember going to??? Just stay home, or at the very least, your neighborhood bar, so that you can WALK home.

A final sad note is, you said that seeing Pat was really important to you, yet this is how your evening ended up? Randy is right, you might wanna consider skipping the alcohol? Take care Bro, get help if you need it. I mean that honestly. It's not a dig at you...

Good luck,

And as always...PT is King!

Dean,

Dude - I might not have any business saying this, but I'm going to say it anyways.

If you had just gotten drunk and gotten a ride home, it would be cool.

However, getting stumbling drunk and then driving home yourself, at extremely high rates of speed no less, not only put your own life in danger, you put the lives of literally hundreds of other people out on the road that night in danger.

You need to be more careful. Perhaps you should even consider quitting drinking altogether.

Ok, this must be the saddest post ever printed. I almost didn't even have the heart to write this, but, here goes.

I went to the show at Jimmy Z's in Everett. I wanted a really good , up front table to enjoy the show. That was a really important thing for me. So, I got there at 5:00. I knew that it was going to be very hard to 'pace' myself to be in any condition to see P.T. at midnight. The doors to the 'Big' bar didn't open until 7:00, so, I had 2 hours to kill. I had a few beers, and being the thrifty person that I am, I brought a bottle of vodka for trips to my car. Well, when I go to the car to drink my poison of choice, I want to limit my trips if you know what I mean. So, you just don't take a little sip. NO, I gotta maximize my trip. So, I drink all i can in 1 trip. Well, after several of these field trips to the car, and repeated beers, by the time the 1st band, shades of purple, had finished, I was so deeeeerunk, i litterally couldn't see straight.(I did win a copy of the Deep Purple made in Japan 24K gold live cd though) The 2nd band came on, and thier music was so intense I had to go outside, i headed towards my car, and when I got to it, I just got in it and drove home, ( most of the trip was travaled at over 100 mph!!, I am lucky to be alive. I even left my coat there Damn it!. This is the 2nd time I haven't seen Pat Travers. God Bless, Dean Cleveland

Rich, yeah that crowd looks like they all took qualudes or sedatives. But some faces show sheer amazement that PT's hand speed was so fast. The DVD actually looks like speed tracks (lighting speed blurs of finger movement) on Pat's fingers -moving so fast. Excellent stuff. Yeah Sad Damn is now a "walking dead man" eh? - Blu

Randal
Posted on Thursday, December 18, 2003 - 03:47 pm:

Hey, y'all

Finally found time to write for a sec. May have to cut this short with a meeting coming up, but . . .

Made it to Johnny Z's about 10, 10:30 after checking into a dive Travelodge within walking distance (get it?) of the club. I got there to hear the second band and was disappointed at the realization I'd have to hear them and one more before PT came on. I discovered the other bar next door, connected but with a different atmosphere, kind of like walking into a tavern. I hung out there talking with the bartender, a few fans and then Darren and Sandy!! Had a few resonably slow beers, and then I heard Pat was there so I ambled backstage just in time to get shut in to the "green room" with Pat. Bullhecked with him a a bit, then Ben, Mike and Sal came in and had a few good laughs. Those guys are cool, and Pat as always is the best. It's always surreal to see him warming up from a few feet away, playing yet another cool classical piece or a tasty blues lick!

I was hypersensitve to the DUI scenario, as I've been there and it ain't no fun -- takes years to get over that crap. So now if I'm drinkin' I ain't drivin'. The Washington State partol are notorious for finding people who should not be on the road, so cool you're one of the luckiest bastards I know. (I know a band called Lucky Bastards, so no offense meant to you). BUT -- your scenario was out of hand and you would do well to stop drinking hard liquor when there is any risk of you deciding to drive while impaired. At least for me, if I've had a few beers I tend to keep myself under control and not make bad decisions, but hard liquor seems to melt my inhibitions so that bad things are more likely to happen -- like DUI's. Then there are accidents and stuff that I do not ever want to experience. BUT I DIGRESS . . .

Pat was right on, leaving every mouth hanging open in awe. Wishbox was right there with him, much tighter than when I had last seen them. Even Sal recognizes the differences between them and eRick -- Wishbox is really a southern-fried rock band, and Pat's so progressive that he gives any backing musician a hard run for his money. I enjoyed the show, just happy to have seen (and remembered) Pat again! Plus I bought Power Trio directly from Pat -- handed him twenty bucks and got him to sign that and my Solo cd! Thus ending ALL wonder about whether Pat sees the money or not . . . I watched most of the show from the side of the stage, right behind the sound booth, but came around front a few times to rock out with Darren and Sandy. It was great to have you guys to myself for a bit --just to catch up!

Unfortunately for me, I suggested buying Jaeger shots for me, Sal and Ben after the show, so it wasn't long at all before I decided to hoof it to my room instead of hanging out with the boys after the show. i KNEW I was done for the eenin', so I shut it down! After a good, safe night's sleep in one of Everett's diviest motels, I watched Seattle drop one they should have won and rolled over to Port Angeles. My meetings went great, the whole city is upbeat about my project and I connected with some fderal dollars that could make the deal happen sooner and better. Imagine allt hat I would have risked if I had decided to drive ripped! I don't like to think about how serious the consequences coudl have been just for getting popped, let alone if I had hurt someone else or myself! Dean, cool yer jets, take a hard look at yourself in the mirror (while cold stone sober) and pull yourself out of the rut you're in. Life does get better if you try at it, and there are good programs around to help you. I liked going to NA when the court ordered me to go to meetings, mostly because half the people in AA are drunk at meetings and I found a cool NA meeting in the park where I don't get smoked out. It is humbling to hear stories of how people are just trying to stay clean of heroin or crack and rebuild their lives after having destroyed their families, their careers, and their very lives. It's an eye-opener, and it doesn't take long to begin to see how much better our lives can be when we take control of who we are. The easiest thing to do is to do nothing -- END OF SERMON

That said -- PT ROXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX got my ass KICKED once again!! Thanks, Pat! Thanks for being there, Wishbox -- you guys are lots of fun to be around. Be safe, everybody

Hello PT lovers. Haven't been to the board in a long time, but I see many of the same posters are still here. I caught the Jimmy Z's show in Everett and really enjoyed seeing Pat again. The club is pretty pathetic, but it's a short drive for me so that made it okay. I saw in an earlier post that someone wanted to know if Pat hade played there before and the answer is yes he has. It was the "School of Hard Knocks" tour (1989 I think) and Mars Cowling was on bass with Jerry Riggs playing guitar. You can imagine how strange it was to see that line up in that club.
But back to the present. The best thing about the show last Saturday for me was the fact that the band played the full length versions of Makin' Magic, Rock 'n Roll Susie, and Gettin' Better instead of doing the medley. Voodoo Chile was also a real treat as well as Inside Looking Out which is a Grand Funk song that I haven't heard in ages. The band was tight and Pat's vocals sounded as good or better than any other time I've seen him. My only complaint was that the bass and back up vocals weren't loud enough. I made the mistake of getting there at 11 so I had to suffer through the last warm up band. That bass player should not have even considered singing the high part on "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers". He was not even close to the pitch. He then proceeded to grab a few drags off of the guitar players cigarette which made my throat hurt just watching him. Of course I felt like I had smoked a pack and a half after being in that place for two and of half hours.
Anyway, it was great to see and hear PT again. Does anyone know if there are plans for a new album of original material any time soon? Lookin' Up had so many great tunes on it that I know Pat can still come up with excellent original ideas.
Peace to all.

Albany is a pretty long way from London...even with the amazing exchange rate for us Brits at the moment.

Any sign of some European dates...please?

Hey Freightrain, At Dinner on November 12, Pat mentioned using you and Rick for one of my upcoming gigs. Do you want to speak with me about it? I think this would be a good way for us to work together, clear up all misunderstandings and progress to a positive, amicable relationship? What do you say? - Blu

Hi All,

Can someone on the list tell me who - the band name, act or artist that appeared on David Letterman, Mon. the 22nd? A pedal steel player, this guy ripped it up!!

I only caught the last two minutes of this guy wailing and I didn't catch the name when Dave L. closed the show.

I've been searching on the net for the past hour to try and figure out who it is and my results are fruitless, so I raise the question in the event that someone knows and can tell me. Most appreciated if you do!

Regards.

T

Come on Freightrain let's be friends, THERE'S NO NEED. Tony, there you are my SUPER-BRO friend special event buddy. email me at concertservices@aol.com. We still have a TNT layout to submit and for the Trio, let's get them some dates if that's what everyone wants. If they are tight now, just think how tight they would be after we put together a west coast run for them. The July Rockin Blues Music Festival #2 is mine for a four year run. Tony Drew and Mike Leeper know That PT was an excellent talent - I'll do the trio this year if everyone wants. Then we won't have a 40 person guest list huh? (lol)Ha ha hoo hoo

Merry Christmas to all and as Pat 's son Elijah says "God Bless Us Everyone". Tony, Ken, Scott, Jo, Big Ed, Randall, Regina, Mathew, Eric "The Freightrain" Fraetes, Rockin' Rick Navarro, Daryl and Kathi (The Newlyweds), Long Lost Texas Rich, Hooked and all those I didn't mention Have a Safe and Happy New Year and yes this means you too!! Merry Christmas, Hammerheads and Hummerheads! Here's wishing you all a fantastic New Year. May our loyal soldiers and law officers keep us safe from bone-headed acts of terrorism and driving while intoxicated! May a taxi ride save your life and the life of someone you love.

It's good to hear Tony speaking of PTB gigs -- I have heard first-hand the testimony of Wishbox members, saying how much respect they have for Rick and Eric -- it's a fact. I know that I speak for alot of people in saying thanks, Tony, for dedicating your efforts to booking gigs with the Pat Travers Band. Blu, here's hoping you can help Tony get some gigs hooked up with the trio! I would definately show up in Tahoe for another summertime Pat Travers asskicking! What a cool venue - can you book the thunder and lightning again? That was awesome.

A special holiday greeting to Pat and Monica, Eric, Rick, Rich and Nancy, Ed, Daryl and Kathi, Nancy and Bert (whereever they are), Carl and Ice Queen, One Chad, Gettin' Bette, Strat-o-various, Bruce, gREG and Lisa, Big Ed, Scott & Jo, the missing Cindy, Darren and Sandi, Regina, Blu and Chrissy, Jim Beseau, John Howe, JM Roxx, Mike, Sal and Ben, and Ed's truck --

May 2004 bring you all much happiness and good fortune!

Your friend,

Randal

That's a cool trick, Tony -- having two new shows last year! LOLOL Guess I'm not he only one who blows dates around the new year! haha Have a good and safe one, everybody.

My lovely wife Grace bought us tickets to Chicago - the Musical - tonight. I get to watch Patrick Swayze doing his best Richard Gere! hahahahhaha The real bummer is that I don't think Queen Latifah is in the road show . . . later on, we're heading to a NYE party within walking distance of the house so will be safe if not sane. COME ON, 2004! Let me be the first to put 2003 TO BED.

You live in WA state? Yep, we got some snow
where I live. But I drove to work. Problem here
is the ice rink created when it snows here.
Oh well, looks cool on the trees and the Christmas
lights. Happy Holidays!!

Seeing how Korea is 14 hours ahead of the US (EST + 14 hours)...

I should just be getting up wishing I hadn't drank so much the night before - right about the time most of you are just getting the party started.

Seriously - have a safe and happy New Year's celebration and make sure you've got a designated driver with you if you're out and about.
