Hey T,

The new PT Live DVD Audio looks like "King Biscuit FLower Hour" CD re-released in the DVD audio format. :)

Hey Ed....
Would that be a date tree or a palm tree?

Well that would depend....

If you send Daryl up there by himself it would have to be a Palm tree.

If you go up there with him use a Date tree!

Please excuse my weak attemp at humor...

I'm going to see Pat this Friday in Minneapolis. I don't see this show on the web page. Just thought I'd let ya know. I'll take some pic's to share with you all!

What I'd like to do is spend my dineros instead on the PT show in Minneapolis. I looked on Pollstar.com and some Minneapolis music scene sites but I don't see the Minn. PT show listed. Can you tell me the venue? I'd really like to go! Let me know, bro!

Hee hee hee. Ed, you're just too funny Bud! Thanks for the idea though. Hey, we're adventurous, we may just give it a try. The only thing I'd be worried about is getting bonked on the head by a coconut on the way up. lol!

Hey Cindy, your hunch is right. We're really going to do it. After most of our plans were already set for Hawaii, I started thinkin' that it would be the perfect time and place to finally take the plunge. I sprung the question on Kathi a couple months back and our heads have been in the clouds ever since. Ahhh....isn't life grand?

Thanks TCF, you can bet we'll have the time of our lives! Can't wait to see your pics from Tahoe.

Thanx everyone for all your good wishes. Steve I think Daryl is going to the Coach House, anyway I know he was thinking about it. Wish I could go.
Till Daryl and I hooked back up two years ago I had heard of Pat, but wasn't familiar with what he did, now I think I'm hooked, and even though I get to go to Hawaii, for three weeks, and start a whole new life, I'm somehow feeling a little cheated having sooo many gigs, so close to home, and have to miss them all. Wouldn't it be just the perfect beginning and end to a perfect vacation, to see Pat play right before we leave then again as soon as we got back. I guess that would just be too much to ask for.
I'm stll thinken that sence Pat is indirectly responsible for this whole thing coming about, he really out to play a private gig for us ............ OK dream on I know.
Anyway thanks again everyone, hope to see you all at the next P.T. marathon!

Hey, anybody here remember the old 70's band Angel? I went & saw them last night. Only Frank (singer) and Barry (drummer) are left from the original band, but it was still very cool to see. They did a full 90 min set, with lots of great stuff from all their albums, mostly the first 3, which are the best! And yes, they all wore white...

Well, hello everyone out there in PT-Land! Been busy but spent a half hour catching up on posts. Congrats Darryl and Kathi! Glad to see Pat helped get you guys together.

Eric, are you and Rick playing the Nov. 1st show in Jaxx at Springfield? If so, IceQueen and I will definitely be there, look forward to seeing you, maybe treat you to a little partying DC style Drop me an email at CARLJ@AOL.COM with your cell or whatever, please.

Well, in other blues news....I had an amazing live music experience this week. I went to see a youngster by the name of Joe Bonamassa, who, at 26 years old, has some amazing chops and incredible feeling in his music. He also opened a show for Peter Frampton, which was, needless to say, much shorter and not quite as intense, but still very cool. Apparently, he has played with BB King, among other blues heavyweights. He has three kick-ass albums out, all of which I would highly recommend. Listening to different songs, you are reminded of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, BB King, Muddy Waters, and, even a few licks sounded very reminiscent of the man himself, PT. Though it would be an easy conclusion to jump to that he is just a copycat, it is clear from his performance that he honestly and deeply is conveying his own soul's blues, and it shows so much in his playing.

If you get a chance to see this guy, I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed. I also met him briefly after both shows and he was most approachable and very cool, which is also a big plus in my book, when you've played with greats and don't have a touch of ego.

Welp, that's all for me....keep on' rockin'!

Carl (aka the Purplest of Hazes)

Hey Purplehaze62,

Is that the same person as "Smokin' Joe Bonomasa"?

If so, you're right! He sure does smoke on that guitar.

He also is a natural talent and one of the few who does the instrument justice.

Check him out Hammerheads!

On another note, check out Joe Stump -kind of a Satriani type player. Also very good!

Ed, rumor had it that Ricky Medlocke was going to quit Skynard last year to re-unite Blackfoot. Jimmy Dormeier (guitarist for Confederate Railroad) was here working on a side project, and he was one of the ones being considered to replace Ricky...but I don't know what ever happened to the plan. ANGEL??

WOW! I heavily DUG those guys. Helluva Band is still one of my all-time favorite albums - Punky Meadows was/is? a total shredder. Greg Giuffria is one of the best keyboardists I've seen, and I always thought Mickey (Jones, I think) was the better bassist over Felix Robinson. Saw them with The Godz (now THERE's a name we haven't heard in many moons) at Paramount in Seattle, circa late 70's. They had the hologram in full bloom, when holograms were seldom seen. Where are they going next, Steve? Who played the git box? Many questions on that one. Barry was a good friend of Paul Stanley's way back then, at least according to Paul when I met him at The Edgewater in '77. It would be way cool to see them again.

Okay, so, The Coach House? Hmm. I'm heading to Seattle and BC Thursday night, so am supposed to be working on presentation stuff with an associate tomorrow eenin' but -- HMMM

Hey Strat -- we're (my buddy/business partner Mike and I) gonna go to Seahawks - 49ers this Sunday night, and as it happens I'll be back next week so plan to see them play Chicago the following Sunday afternoon. I'll just be hangin' in Seattle on Saturday next week if you can't make the game but want to go bum around . . . it's possible I could head over the pass too for a spell . . . watcha thank?

PS - For those lovely ladies who will suffer from Post-Election (did I spell that right? LOL) Syndrome, I have set up a Free Groping Booth in front of my office. A bird in the -- oh, nevermind!

Yeah, I think it's gonna be Ahnold. Better him than another Demosplat (in the form of a Cruzmobile) after what Davis put us through. Yeah, I voted for him mostly because I'm hoping he'll jump in a Hummer and single-handedly invade Nevada. Now THAT would be a decisive action for our reeling state budget! I did struggle over the ballot, though, as when I read it last night I noticed that my choices also included Larry Flynt, Gallagher, Gary Coleman, a sumo wrestler, a porn star, a stripper, a never-discovered Angelyne, a railroad switchman, a cigarette retailer and a used car salesman. . . Hmmm -- what to do???????????????

Hey Randal,

The guitarist currently with Angel (last I heard) is Steve Blaze, guitarist for Lillian Axe. I was a huge Angel fan way back in the day as well. Loved their first two releases, but they just bacame a little too poppy for me after that...

I can't believe all you Californicators didn't just put down Pat as a write in vote! Hell, all the candidates are clowns anyway....that's why they're politicians! They're not smart enough to be anything else! Lol!

Keep me informed about the weekend in Seattle...I might try to make it. I've been doing 6 days a week with the new biz here, so a day away might be a good thing!

A bit of sad news....Any of you guitar slingers ever heard of Shawn Lane? Amazing talent from Memphis...He passed away last Friday after a lengthy illness from lung complications, and was laid to rest this past Monday. I had met Shawn quite often when I was living in the Memphis/Little Rock area back in the 80's and early 90's. He had been recording with Jonas Hellborg (bassist for John McLaughlin) since around '94, and was about to go in the studio to do an album (CD) with Jonas and Ginger Baker of Cream when he fell ill. I'm still reeling over this one! Shawn was only 40!! The music world has really lost a huge talent with this one...Most of the guitar magazines are already planning on tribute issues. Look for them around the December or January issues, due to advance deadlines and current articles already set for the next couple of issues. Shawn's website is ( www.noproblemhere.com ) and other links there lead to other great websites about Shawn. Check them out if you're not aware of Shawn's prodigious talents. I for one am really gonna miss Shawn.....

Awful quiet on the PT front lately....what gives?

And as always...PTB is King!

Now that you mention it...I do vaguely recall he used to be "Smokin' Joe" but I couldn't remember if it was him or someone else. I think he was in his teens back then, and if he was good then, he's even better now.

Wow, Stratasauras Rex, really sorry to hear about Shawn Lane, I collected a few MP3s of his, enough to know what a stellar talent he was. Had hoped to maybe get a chance to see him live with Hellborg, but I guess that's not to be. RIP Shawn....you can shred in heaven now with Jimi and Stevie and the others who were taken from us too early.

MissingMars...I've heard a bit of Joe Stump, he is a pretty intense neo-classical shredmeister himself. Definitely worthwhile for guitarists and guitar afficionados to check out.

Well, hope all is well, good luck with Ahnold, Californicators of the PT boards.

Blu, saw your posting and I will shoot you an email this morning! I haven't done anything with the pictures yet because more relatives from Germany are in town and just haven't had any time. These two spent 6 hours at the Gilroy Outlets, they were telling me that a pair of Levis' there cost at least $95.00 and they were able to get them for only $20.00 here! They went hog wild with a lot of stuff, I am taking them to Hollywood Saturday for three days and then San Francisco when we get back.

Enjoy the PT solo show tonight...should be a fun time!

Just found out that UFO is headed back into the studio in Hanover, Germany to record their next album to be released sometime after the new year. Pete Way sez that the guitar chores will be handled by Vinnie Moore and the drum spot will be filled by Jason Bonham. Paul Raymond is back on board and contributing heavily with songwriting, and of course the ever faithful Mogger will be singing his heart out. Sounds like a steller line-up to me....Maybe now with Herr Schenker's blessings for the band to carry on without him (and his schizophrenic ways) just maybe UFO can get back on track without the wheels falling off this time! Schenker's a fret wizard, but is way off his rocker...Stay tuned!

Hey Steve Z! Don't ya know that if yer gonna tune a 1/2 step off course you should go flat, not sharp? At least you can bend up a 1/2 step to get to pitch, but I've never figured out just how to bend DOWN a 1/2 step to pitch (short of stopping a fret shy of where yer headed)! Ha! That's a great gig story. Sounds like you recovered like a trooper. Way to go!

Hey all,

Just trying to recover from my self-inflicted schedule here! Managed to come down with some kind of bug after all the recent festivities, but thankfully, that didn't hold me back from the Coach House last night!

Pat played all by himself for about an hour to an unfortunately small, but still very appreciative crowd. My friend & I had great front row seats right up at the stage. He opened with Highway 61, which was pretty cool done acoustically. Most of the set was covers, including Magnolia, Hot Rod Lincoln, Rocky Racoon, The Wind Cries Mary, & Statesboro Blues. He also did great versions of Just Enough Money, Stevie, Boom Boom & Snortin Whiskey.

He played harmonica on quite a few of the songs, with the aid of one of those headset things like Neil Young uses. In fact, he commented on the fact that he was having a few problems with the headset harmonica holder, and had to get himself a high-tech one like Neil uses!

There was one rude guy who came right up front and yelled out songs to Pat, and kept asking Pat if he recognized him with his haircut! Pat tried to get him to shut up the best he could! In the end, I think he was one reason why Pat didn't come out for an encore.

All in all, a really cool chance to get to see Pat sitting alone with an acoustic guitar, playing some cool stuff. Glad I made it!

Good to see Ed, Darryl & Ken there too, and to chat with some folks who saw me play at the Arrowfest show last Sat!

Cheers!

Hey Rockpig, that's some good advice! LOL! My damn Boss tuner has a tiny little dot to show sharp or flat, which is really hard to see! Thought I hit D, but it was really showing D sharp! As they say, Won't Get Fooled Again...

....Maybe now with Herr Schenker's blessings for the band to carry on without him (and his schizophrenic ways) just maybe UFO can get back on track without the wheels falling off this time! Schenker's a fret wizard, but is way off his rocker...Stay tuned!

I just can't picture UFO being UFO without MS. I know he's as goofy as they come, but to me, UFO without MS is like the Rolling Stones without Keith... The Who without Pete. It works, but it just isn't the same.

I've authored six or seven Shawn Lane DVDs - all of them are Hellborg-Lane-Sipe, except one from '95 that is Hellborg-Lane-Baker. In my book he's the best ever. No superlatives can describe him.

All of these DVDs were authored from master tapes, and most were shot from the front row (he was very taper friendly). The man who runs the www.noproblemhere.com website (Mick Trammel) now has copies of all of these DVDs and he will be selling them on behalf of Shawn's family (mainly for Shawn's daughter's sake). If you like guitar, you will absolutely be blown away at these DVDs - I guarantee it.

Sorry everyone, not able to report anything. Wasn't able to go last night due to a friend injurying her back and Arleene fighting with her boyfriend, and I was told by some friends who live in livermore that the Pine Street Bar & Grill is no place for a lady to show up alone!

Oh well, just a couple more weeks and he will be back in November and I will NOT miss those shows!

Next Concert, Thin Lizzy at the end of October.

Hey Traverschickfan,

Saw Thin Lizzy this past Thursday @ Northern Lights in Clifton Park, NY.

5 stars all the way.

They were absolutely awesome. This time out there was no Tommy Aldridge or Marco Mendoza though. I was almost saddened until I saw the show. The two new guys are Michael Lee (drums) and Randy Gregg (bass) and they were just awesome.

The new drummer was previously with Page & Plant for a number of years. His style is more in line with Thin Lizzy's original drummer Brian Downey than Tommy Aldridge is. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Tommy Aldridge fan and he more than blew my mind on Thin Lizzy's previous tour. It's just that there was a 15 year precedent set by Brian Downey and Michael Lee is more from that school than Tommy Aldridge. Drummers to me are like singers, there are so many different ones all with their own style.

Enjoy the show. I sure did! :)

Hey Missingmars

Who handled the vocals and guitar duties in Thin Lizzy? Was it John Sykes and Scott Gorham?

If so, how was their playing? I know those guys are awesome together.

Hey Tony D,

Vocals were handled by John Sykes! Awesome job too!

He has this uncanny ability to sound like Phil Lynott. He did the same on the first Blue Murder album (sounding like David Coverdale). I absolutley loved Phil Lynott's voice (GOD rest his soul), and John does an admirable job singing for Phil.

This all sort of reminds me of the Journey situation. Steve Augeri sounds a lot like Steve Perry.

When you see either of these bands, just close your eyes for a bit and it will freak you out on how much they sound like their predecessors.

Hey Strat -- our schedule filled up with meetings so made it back to Seattle just in time for the game. Too close for comfort!!! Yikes! I WILL be back this weekend. I'm coming in at 9:30 am and will be killing time 'til the Chigago game Sunday, then heading for Port Angeles after the game. Lemme know if you can make it -- maybe we can catch a show Saturday night or check out the local talent at Larry's.

Ed -- sorry I couldn't make it. Business demands precluded me from going, as I was leaving for Seattle and Vancouver BC the next morning and had to get my "heck" together. Sounds like yet another blowit, but I just keep on keepin' on. When I seal the deal it'll be alot easier to work in the recerational stuff! Glad you and others made it, including Steve.

I got an S-VHS copy (straight off of cable) of the "Guitar Wars" filmed in Tokyo a few months ago featuring Steve Hackett, John Paul Jones, Paul Gilbert, Nuno Bettencourt, Pat Mastelotto (from King Crimson on drums), Roger King (from the Steve Hackett Band on keyboards), and Mike Szuter (from The Szuters on bass).

Nuno and Paul open the show with Pat's "Gettin' Betta" and they really do it justice. I was really surprised at how well they played it. Both of them are top notch pros, so it's no surprise that they knew how to play it - it's just that they played it like they've been playing it for years.

Great stuff!

It'll make it to DVD in a few weeks or so.

PT's 'Black Pearl' album is so underrated. I don't know how "I La La La Love You" didn't make it onto the '20th Century Millenium Collection' CD.

I think what really killed this album from the get-go was the album cover. Much of PT's fans were guys and that "pink" tone on the album cover probably turned them off.

The album rocks and the music has definetly stood the test of time, but I have no idea what Polydor was thinking with that album cover.

MissingMars: Thanks for the input, I am really looking forward to seeing Thin Lizzy! I have been the tourist guide for the last 5 days, cousins from Germany are here, parents took them to Tahoe for 3 days, and Friday night we left for Hollywood, Santa Monica, Malibu, Santa Barbara, yesterday was San francisco and Sausalito, San Jose (my house and family), today is Santa Cruz and Capitola, and then I bring them back to Los Banos to my parents and I will pick them up on Sunday and bring them to the Airport. Needless to say I am exhausted and can't wait for some good ol' rock-n-roll starting with Thin Lizzy and then Pat in November!

Have a good everyone!

Soonest I could get away to post... The Fairfax gig was absolutely GREAT! Pat' fingers fluidly, graced the fretboard. He truly was at ease and enjoying himself. Wishbox rocked hard, with their timing nicely complimenting Pat's powerful performance - many compliments went out to them for how they sounded. Sound, supplied by Jeff Irving of 19 Broadway, was great for a club venue - the room's acoustic's and recent stage development certainly pulled in its fair share. This was one of the best ones to date. 19 Broadway was packed. Fans showed their great appreciation for Pat's return to this very nice looking town, by keeping the energy level high and actively participating when called upon (though some had a little more to drink than necessary : ) . The intro was nothing short of humorous in light of the circumstances as Pat grinned and smiled through it all("Now, we have to take care of a some security and insurance.." LOL!!) IMO, the intro was done in good taste and certainly a memorable one. Fairfax really enjoys having Pat there to play. Certainly count on having 19 Broadway Pat back for more!

TLO and the boys rocked hard again! Hard to think of a better way to spend a Friday evening. November is right around the corner....

Ken,

Haven't heard from you in a while! Speaking of November, we're coming up on almost a year since the infamous Tempe NYE gig #2....when is your version of the DVD gonna be ready? Inquiring minds gotta know....

"California is the place you wanna be, so they loaded up the truck and they went to see PT..."

Sorry...couldn't resist the Beverly Hillbillies theme song cross reference...California sure seems to be getting the PT shows this year! You're a lucky bunch....

And as always...PTB is King!
