Pat Travers Live 1976 (Rockpalast - Germany):

People should keep in mind that this was German TV broadcast from 1976. Having said that, I can't believe how clean the picture and stereo sound are. I can't believe that it's even in stereo, boy where they thinking ahead when they made this back in '76.

I've got a few different Rockpalast shows (on tape that I am planning on authoring to DVD and a few that I've already authored).

Suffice it to say, if it weren't for Rockpalast, a lot of bands from the '70s would have little more than a couple of clips from Don Kirshner's Rock Concert or the Midnight Special to show for that era.

Rockpalast broadcast full shows, and many of them were quite long. I've got a 3 1/2 Grateful Dead concert from '81 on the way (that includes some songs with Pete Townsend sitting in, as the Who co-hosted the show that night). Can you imagine? A 3.5 hour concert, broadcast without commercials no less!

Rockpalast's archive can be found at this website: http://www.rockpalastarchiv.de/welcomee.html

Rockpalast's broadcast schedule can be found here:
http://www.rockpalast.de/termine.html

the broadcast schedule is in German, but it's easy to figure out what's what. I've got some German friends who record shows for me whenever I ask.

The difficult part of turning these into nice DVDs for the US audience is transferring them from PAL to NTSC. If you can do it professionally, you're all set. However, professional equipment is in the five figure range, and for the most part, is only found in studios. Consumer level equipment is inherently inferior. It takes a master tape and makes it look like a bad second or third gen copy.

How's everybody this weekend?

Hey Purple Haze Carl, Not sure why you aren't getting my emails. I sent the first one on Feb. 14, another on Feb. 26, and just now another one not five minutes ago. I used the email addy you gave of CARLJ@aol.com . If you don't get this one, drop a post here.

Hey Randy, do you have a list of your Rockpalast shows? Up for some possible trading?

Great to hear Sandy Gennaro may be doing some PT gigs. Hope somebody "captures the moment" on video or audio. I always thought Sandy was overlooked because of Tommy. I felt the same about Pat Marchino as well. To me, Gennaro & Marchino had very similar drum styles, and I really thought both were highly underrated. I'll probably be condemned for saying this, but I liked both Gennaro & Marchino better than Aldridge. This does NOT mean that I don't like Aldridge! Au Contraire! Just my personal opinion on the subject, and we all know it means absolutely nothing...They both just seemed less rigid that Tommy. I feel the same about Aldridge playing with Thin Lizzy...I prefer Brian Downey for the same reasons. I do think that Tommy was the best choice for Black Oak Arkansas, Randy Rhoads era Ozzy, and Whitesnake. Maybe mentioning this will save me from the "drummer's hangmans noose"! LOL!

What's up with all the talk of PT hooking up with Mars & Tommy and now Gennaro? A bit of recapturing the past? Maybe we can look forward to Thrall & Riggs sometime in the future as well? I'd really like to see that happen in some shape or fashion! As much as I like PT going at it solo, I really miss the twin guitar assault. Most of Pat's best music is twin guitar based and I really miss all the interplay between two guitars when Pat plays live. Having said that...the last time I saw Pat live there were 3 guitar players, and that was too many. I'll leave it at that.

Glad to see that the review a few days ago of Eric's new band was a positive one. I'll definitely have to hit their website and order the CD. Eric, if you're reading this, all the best to your new project & band! Kick ass & kick it well! Same to you Rick! Keep in touch will all your buds here at the site!

Seems like there's been a string of bad news lately....Columbia disintegrating, the Chicago nightclub stampede, the Great White fire tragedy, our PT friends losing family members, Mr. Rogers' passing, the (still) pending possibility of war in Iraq, not to mention Osama is still loose and the terrorist threat will probably be with us forever, becoming just another obstacle in daily life.... Spring is just around the corner, and I don't know about you guys, but that time of year always rejuvenates me and gives me a sense of a new start and new possibilities (more so than New Years Eve). Let's all hope that things start "LOOKING UP"...... At least the PTBNYEDVD issue appears to be resolved, based on the lack of posting about it...I'm really glad that all the parties involved appear to have resolved their issues and have become a collective group again...proving once again that the PT fans are the best in the world! But you all knew that already, didn't you!

And as always...PTB is KING!

Wow, Kasim playing with Gennaro & PT? Now why in the heck couldn't we have gotten that line up in Seattle if we couldn't have Eric & Rick?

You East Coasters are gonna get rocked with this line-up! I'd love to catch those shows!

Hey Randy, do you have a list of your Rockpalast shows? Up for some possible trading?

Randy's Rockpalast DVDs:

Ted Nugent
Date: 1976-09-08
Venue: WDR Studio-L, Köln, Germany
Length: 57 mins
Source: Rockpalast unknown gen (probably 3rd)

1. Stranglehold
2. Just What The Doctor Ordered
3. Stormtroopin'
4. Great White Buffalo
5. Snakeskin Cowboys
6. Hey Baby
7. Hibernation
8. Motorcity Madhouse

Really nice to see a Ted video filmed prior to the "Cat Scratch" era, during which I think he became much more commercialized and started writing songs designed for radio play.

You get it all: high pitched screams, Charles Manson-esque facial expressions, mile-a-minute talking, gritting teeth... Extreme, intense... classic early Ted. Too bad the source video wasn't a little better.

Ted Nugent - lead guitar & vocals
Derek St. Holmes - guitar & vocals
Rob Grange - bass
Cliff Davies - drums

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

REO Speedwagon
Date: 1979-10-11
Venue: Hamburg, Germany (Rockpalast)
Length: 67 min
Source: PAL master > 1st gen NTSC VHS > DVD

1. Say You Love Me Or Say Goodnight
2. Like You Do
3. Heavy On Your Love
4. Drop It
5. Only The Strong Survive
6. Easy Money
7. Roll With The Changes
8. The Unidentified Flying Tuna Trot
9. Gary Richrath guitar solo
10. Back On The Road Again
11. Keep Pushin'
12. Ridin' The Storm Out
13. Little Queenie (Chuck Berry)
14. Rock and Roll Music (Chuck Berry)

First things first. I basically stopped listening to REO when the album "Hi Infidelity" came out and REO became the self-proclaimed kings of the "rock power ballad." This show was in support of the 1979 "Nine Lives" release, which was the last of REO's true rock albums (IMHO). For fans of this part of REO's past, thankfully this video exists.

There was a camera directly in front of Gary Richrath (about 8-10 feet in front of him) so there are lots of nice "finger-tip" close shots of his guitar playing. Speaking of which, he just lights up the fretboard throughout the show. A big "what if" occurs right as Gary is about to break into the "Flying Turkey Trot" guitar solo. Unfortunately, he breaks a string. He probably would have done the whole thing if the string hadn't broken.

There is two seconds of audio glitch at 56:03.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Edgar Winter & Rick Derringer
Date: 1990-05-09
Venue: Music Hall, Cologne, Germany
Length: 85 mins
Source: Rockpalast > PAL master > 1st gen NTSC VHS > DVD

1. Keep Playing That Rock 'n' Roll
2. Teenage Love Affair
3. Free Ride
4. Blood From A Stone
5. Fly Away
6. Rhapsody In Red
7. Jump
8. Hang On Sloopy
9. Cry Out
10. Rock 'n' Roll Hootchie Koo
11. Frankenstein
12. Tobacco Road (with "Shout" interlude)

Great camera work (as is usually the case with Rockpalast shows).

Highlights include some really nice back-and-forth exchanges between Edgar (singing scat) and Rick answering on guitar. Edgar does the same thing except it's on the drums where he and the drummer trade drum licks.

You have to really look close to catch this - but just to let you know that he doesn't take any of it too seriously, you get a brief glimpse of Rick doing the "Frankenstein walk" during the song "Frankenstein." I busted out laughing when I first saw it.

Edgar Winter - vocals, synthesizer, alto-saxophone, percussion
Rick Derringer - guitar, vocals
C.P. Roth - keyboards, vocals
Charlie Torres - bass, vocals
Kevin Hupp - drums, vocals

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Deep Purple
Date: 1985-07-09
Venue: Palais Omnisports, Paris, France
Length: 104 min
Source: Rockpalast (low gen)

1. Highway Star
2. Nobody's Home
3. Strange Kind Of Woman
4. A Gipsy's Kiss
5. Perfect Stranger
6. Under The Gun
7. Lazy
8. Knocking On Your Back Door
9. Space Trucking
10. Woman From Tokyo
11. Black Night
12. Smoke On The Water

This disk has chapter points at the beginning of each track, however, it does not have any menus.

Hey there TraversTravelers (Scott & Jo), apparently you have been talking to Michelle, who, the brat! has been coming over and using my PT Username!! I am TCF (Regina) and the first time I was on she was hanging out with me and saw your name Scott and decided to chime in! So every now and then Michelle may chime in, but it will mostly be me! Jo my sympathies go to you and your family on the loss of your loved on.

My sister-in-law and I are for sure going to the shows, the tall blonde I was with last time, and I am going to try and get Michelle to go so you guys can hear all her funny stories! Oh yea, Scott, remember Sue Perry? She found me, I haven't seen her since she was going out with Brett (about 20 years now) we are having breakfast this morning, and Ginger, well she is going to be a Grandma in April.

Take care you two!

Hey Randy,

Your assessments of The 'Nuge & REO were spot on. My thoughts exactly. 9 Lives was the last REO I cared for, but I have everything leading up to that (Including the barely remembered "This Time We Mean It"). The 'Nuge? Just the first two thank you...which are amazing, monster, rock classics...after that? ppfffftt! Styx turned out the same way. Up to and including "Crystal Ball", they were a rock band. Then when they hit it big, all they wanted was the radio hit. What does "Cornerstone" & "Kilroy Was Here" tell you? Yawn....The early Skynyrd you're working on sounds interesting, too. Hey, I'd like to talk some trading if possible. I don't have any DVD recording capabilities, but I have a big list of soundboard shows we could work something on. Sounds like we're in agreement with a lot of the same music. Are we twin brothers in parallel universes? Ha! What's your email addy?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BESEAU!!! For you're sake, I hope "Mr. Johnson & The Juice Crew" have gotten over their "hot tub raisin syndrome"!!! LOL!
(Inside joke, people...You'll have to ask Jim about that, 'cause I ain't sayin' nothing else!) HA!

Somebody please, please, please capture the Sulton/Gennaro/Travers shows in some form or fashion! That will be a must have.....

Any news on the supposedly currently being recorded new PT release? Anybody? I REALLY hope that it's a return to rock & not the blues or covers thing again. I've heard some of the demos, and Pat has sometimes played a song or two live that confirms he's got some GREAT rock stuff that needs to be released. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

And as always....PTB is King! (and today, so is Jim!)

We be fully covering the two Virginia shows with Sulton and Gennaro. Looking forward to some new material or at least old material played in a different manner. Happy b-day Jim!!!! I have that Nugent show on first generation DVD! Crystal Ball and Equinox (for me) are the very best of Styx. I did see them do Paradise Theater in Germany in 1981. They played just that album in order front to back. One of the best damn shows I can say I saw!!! Part of that show is on Caught in the Act(live) Well I am only allowed out for two minutes a day. So back to the studio!

Ginbel...God bless you, man! Happy to hear those shows will be captured!

All this talk about the Rockpalast shows got me to checking a little deeper. I see on their schedule for next Sunday night, they will be re-airing the '76 Nugent show. It will be Sunday Night March 9th from 1:00-2:00. The following Sunday night March 16th from 1:00-2:00 they will be re-airing a show by Die Toten Hosen (The Dead Pants (or) Trousers). These guys have great energy even though they are mostly unknown here in the States.

ALERT to Rod In Germany!! Anyway you could do a first generation dupe of these two shows? I'll make it up to you in trade one way or the other!

I also spotted where Rockpalast will be officially releasing a Thin Lizzy show from '81 and a 2 DVD set of Rory Gallagher (Great news for you there Takashi! I know you're a big Rory fan!).

Have I said lately that Rockpalast rules?

Are you sure it's Rockpalast doing this? The reason I ask is because of the following, which comes from the Rockpalast FAQ:

++++++++++
Is it possible for me to order Audio/Videos from Rockpalast concerts?

Unfortunately not! Neither WDR nor the Rockpalast Archive have permission to offer you tapes of the concerts, because of the rights. Concert audio/videos cannot be purchased anywhere. Please take note of the Audio/Video Request section, especially the legal conditions.

My German is not in top form, but it looks like it to me. I've saved the page and can forward it to you. It lists Rory Gallagher, Thin Lizzy, Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, Roger Chapman & The Shortlist, and Huey Lewis & The News. All feature Dolby Surround 5.1 and Stereo 2.0. If you can't locate it at the WDR site, drop a note and I'll forward the page I saved. If your German is better, and I'm sure it is, please correct me and explain what the heck they're offering...Thanks!

Actually, translation is part of my job (Korean and Japanese), but I can't speak any German at all.

I've got some German buddies (in fact, I just contacted one and asked him to record the Ted Nugent show on S VHS for me), so I'll ask them. Just shoot me the URL.

Hey all, just wanted to pipe in with a short review of the 2 DVD's I just got yesterday, Rockpalast '76, and San Diego '99. Both excellent shows, in different ways! I never saw Dave LaRue with Pat before, so that was really cool! He is an amazing player, and definitely adds his own style to the songs. Pat seems pretty fired up this night, and comments a couple of times on the great turn out and reception he got! Wiser Man definitely ROCKS!

Anybody know where in SD this show took place? Was it 4th & B? Randall?

The Rockpalast show is TRULY F'IN AMAZING!! The picture is quite clear, and the sound is STUNNING! A killer show from the early line-up of Pat, Mars & Nico McBrain. Feelin' Right, Need Love, Medley, It Makes No Difference are all amazing! Any PT fans from way back, you MUST get this show!

Thanks again, Rich, for bringing 'em to us, directly to our living rooms!

Cheers!

I just got off the phone with Judas Priest's manager and I may be able to swing Montrose & PT opening for Priest. The thing with my show is that all artists will be paid handsomely and asked to perform 90-minute full blown shows. Rich, it would be great to get you out to Reno for this one. I'll get you a room. Randall you already have a room. Others I promised will be on the guest list. I'm wokring on it, but still need to hear if Trower will decide to fly in from London to do the show. Priest is a good back up huh? and three times as much money. Tickets will be $60.00/$75.00 and well worth it don't you think? Rich, did you get the package? I hope mine is here today with my special request burn add on. Texas Rick what's transpiring? Hope your shirt is here today, so I can wear it to dinner with Ronnie Montrose Wed. I'm out for now - Blu

He may not tour (quote unquote), because noone but me has offered him the decent pay for the gig. Can someone loan me an extra $20 grand and I'll get Robin to do a three gigger. Then ask PT to join. Hi! I have not posted in awhile. That Kansas post was a bummer, but Kansas was dotting the I's and crossing the T's with it's tour with Styx. There drummer Phil Ehart is a major stickler, with band lineup equalness, and obviously with money. They were looking for a larger tour to get some venue gigs in. They are promoting a new DVD, so they want to sell it before there next cd comes out again on Magna Carta.
I heard that Jason from Metallica is Ozzy's new bassist. My boss is inlaws with his family, but won't discuss the past breakup.

I wuz all bummed out about not making this past Wednesday`s shebang in New Smyrna Beach because of work crap. It`s bike week in Daytona, near New Smyrna, this week and I had my Schwinn all shined up. I hope Rick makes it to the the Lauderdale festivities!!!

P.S. I don`t know where Old Smyrna is, and don`t care.

Hey Bette!! Nancy and I were just listening to Pats' solo followed up with Born Under A Bad Sign and I have three thing s I need to say...1. GOD DAMN!! I LOVE THIS BAND!!! Those tracks on this CD are better than any two tracks on any CD ever!! This is like listening to Bridge of Sighs for the first time or something!!! 2. I am sooo happy that this trio is still together at least for now!!! To see them play like this is really unique and unsurpassed! 3. To Bruce Frye... THANK YOU so much for bringing it to us!!! If not for you, we would not have ever heard these recordings as Pat would not have been there. This was a real relaxed gig for all concerned(even with CIA running around! LOL! ) It was/is so obvious how relaxed they are and allowing the music to flow versus forced. Thanx!!! We all owe you for this one!!!! CYA y'all!! Just happy to be a fan!!

**Here is info for people coming in from out of town for the JAXX show in Springfield, VA on 3/22/03**

Ticketmaster Charge by Phone for this event!
Northern VA 1-800-527-6384

I could not order these tickets online because the show listing is screwed up and they will not correct it at ticketmaster evidently. I called Jaxx Nightclub and they said they have faxed Ticketmaster numerous times. They not only have Montrose mispelled as "Montross" but it also shows the tickets "Not available for sale online." Pretty pathetic! The good news is if you call the above toll free number you can infact order these over the phone at $25.50 each (which includes all charges).

Hope this helps a few of you out because Jaxx said people were calling wonder what gives??!

Hope to see all the PT fans at the Jaxx show on Sat 3/22. I am coming in from Dayton, OH!!

Talked with Rich of Ginbel fame today for a bit. We sometimes forget/overlook those that do the most for us in our lives. I'm not talking about life or death. Just people that do things that make life better. I got a card the other day. It had an awesome b&w photo on the front, with the caption reading, "Love doesn't make the world go 'round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile."

That's what the Ginbels, Rich & Nancy, do for me. I don't want to not thank the people that make it worthwhile for me.

Thanks guys! And I know I speak for others, but this is just me.

And, I DO remember hearing "Bridge of Sighs" for the first time and just about crapping my Levi's!!! What an analogy!

OKAY!!! Here we go!! We have right now..... Pat Travers Band Live from Tempe AZ NYE 2002!!!!! That is the show they just played!!! This is a double CD set. The name of the CD is "Set In Stone" This is also the name of the DVD(which will be finished very soon also!) The name "Set In Stone" refers to Pat's permenance as as performer, the fact that he has played at the gig twice and will most likely do it again, and because of the local geology (red rocks). The show is 87 minutes long! Tracks are as follows... Disc One: 1.Hooked On Music, 2.Life In London, 3.Just Enough Money, 4.Crash and Burn, 5.The Pain, 6.Elijah, 7.Stevie, 8.Medley Disc two: 1.Auld Lang Syne, 2.Bass Solo, 3.Whipping Post, 4.Snortin' Whiskey, 5.Drum Solo, 6.Boom, Boom 7.Guitar Solo, 8.Born Under A Bad Sign. Reviews... First off... CRASH AND BURN!!! Oh baby!!! Born Under a Bad Sgn... best version I have ever heard by anyone!!!!! I am not friggin kidding!! Man I was there and STILL I am floored by Pat's playing. Just so damn phenominal!! His guitar solo also MUCH deeper and MUCH more intricate than I have heard before. Rick had a beautiful solo also!! Really shows off his talents!! Eric has a nice little solo in there too! But Erics pounhding through the whole show really shines!! This is really the only release with him on it. We will be releasing the NYE DVD of course, but there is till one more with this line up and that is the Rechter Theater show on DVD(coming soon). This is getting long, but let me just say that we were REALLY impressed by the engineering that went into the original recording! We found it a little sterile though. We went back to it and spent about 48 hours in the studio to get it kickin'. WOW!! It kicks!!! Nice to finally have some quality recording of a live show. They have been kind of hard to come by since Go for..., but I think we really have something here. Every one that has heard it so far is blown away. Proceeds from sales go to the band(as usual)(actually more than usual) anyway the total with shipping is $35.00(over seas is the exact same price). We prefer you to use www.paypal.com for payment. Just use our email address ginbel27@comcast.net ( G I N B E L 2 7) otherwise send money order to: Rich Stansell 713 Renner Rd Wilmington, DE 19810. And of course you can get them at the shows from the band directly (and get them signed!)starting March 22nd. We are very psyched that everyone will now be able to get a feel for just how great that show was!!!! Peace Out! Rich and Nancy

Hey everyone still working on the Headliner for PT and Montrose. Shooting for July 11, 18 or 19 or 2-days if they sell. Robin Trower may still do the show and his manager Derek Sutton would most likely push for him as headliner. Montrose open, then PT or visa versa whatever they want to do. I am billing all three at 100% equal. If Robin can't make it, I still have Priest, and with all the bad rap on Night Ranger (I'm surprised) I don't think I'll go that way. They want alot of money too. I told Brad what I'd pay and he almost fell off the toilet. To me a band is what it is. I'd love to pay these guys all the money in the world, but it just doesn't break even. I may call Ted Nugent next. Pat says he and "Sweaty Teddy" do not agree on anyhting, but that they are still great friends. So this could be a rocker for me. I'll post you. My friends are invited. If you think you are my friend email me at concertservices@aol.com. P.S. Ginbel call me tonight on cell. - late Blu

Kirk Hammett of Mettallica and Dime Bag Dave of Pantera both picked "Go For What You Know" by Pat Travers. Pretty cool.

Hi! New to the board, hope all is well with everyone! My name is Jen. I was wondering if anyone knew where the Morristown, NJ and the Norfolk, VA shows will be played at? Considering journeying to both, so of course i'd like to know the club names. :)

Also, if by chance it strikes me, is photography frowned on or welcome? I am a music photographer, so usually i dont use flash if that helps the answer any.

Lastly, if anyone is interested in info on Kasim Sulton, who'll be playing some shows with Pat, as ya all know, check out a few sites:

http://www.kasimsulton.com -- his official site
http://www.kasiminfo.com -- authorized fan site, BIG
and there's tons more but those are the two biggies :) ! Glad to have found this site! Hope to see some of you at a show if i can figure out the clubs! Thanks and take care!

Welcome to the board!

I've been to a few PT concerts and people take pictures like crazy. I'm sure the band would appreciate the fact you don't use a flash...I don't either. I love the effect of stage lights, and flash is useless after a few feet anyway.

Anyhow...welcome again to "hammerhead" central...stop by often.

Steve-that's too cool. One of the reasons I like Foo Fighters is because they are so down to earth. Dave G. can thrash away on the skins as well but I understand his desire to be a frontman. I wish I lived on the west coast so I could catch you guys. I'm a HUGE Zeppelin fan. Zep and Pat are my favorites. There's a Zep tribute band in North Carolina called ZOSO that's pretty good. It's fun keeping up with your band even though I can't see you.

The priest rumor according to the band's official site, is totally false. the below quote is from their website:

" There appears to have been some confusion regarding a story that is circulating - there is no truth in the rumour that there has been a reunion with Rob Halford or that we are doing any shows with him in the summer. Ripper Owens is Judas Priest's vocalist - nothing has changed!"

Eddie Trunk's website however has quoted Priest's drummer Scott Travis as confirming it! The below quote is from Eddie Trunk's website:

JUDAS PRIEST drummer Scott Travis has publicly admitted that the group's Ripper Owens era is, for all intents and purposes, over. "We hope [former singer] Rob [Halford] rejoins the band so we can go out this summer, but part of the ball's in his court, so he's going to have to make a decision," he told Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. It remains unclear if a reunited PRIEST would go it alone or pair up with another act, such as TWISTED SISTER or Sanctuary Artist Management stable-mates IRON MAIDEN.

Nobody asked you to expound on the Priest situation. I am in touch with the manager and booking agent who is the actual Executive Vice President of the Agency and whether it is Ripper Owens or Halford (which won't happen) someone will be vocaling for Priest this summer - that's a fact and this I know. Digging up garbage facts on the band is alright, but don't ruin my booking okay? I'm an active producer, you're a fan, big difference. I do it for money and loive of music -You opbviously saw my post and decided to rip ripper. I am promised the band in whatever form it comes in and I guarantee the other original members will make sure the next priest vocal is a good person as well as singer. We've all seen "Rock Star" and we know how it works. That band has simply too much talent to not continue on. Call Nat Burgess at APA if you have any doubts or please mind your own business and remember if you can't say something good, don't say it at all. Thanks Blu

Hey Bluhawley,

I was just quoting other sources! Sorry if it has ruffled your "career feathers". You are right when you said " I'm an active producer, you're a fan, big difference. " But remember this: with no fans, you make no money.

I did not see your post nor did I decide to rip Ripper. You must have directed that remark to someone else. :(

-remember: there is no such thing as bad publicity. I believe press like this can only help your bookings due to it's curiosity factor alone.

Enough of my soapboxing (for now)

This is Chris in Dayton, OH. I am set to make it out to the Springfield, VA Jaxx show. I have a hotel and rental car reserved and will be flying in for the gig. Why are tickets are not available for that show through ticketmaster?

Anyone have any info where to get tickets for this show at Jaxx or why you cannot buy them online like the Jaxx website says?? Man, the show is merely two weeks away? HELP!!

I take it from the listing on the Jaxx site that Pat goes on first, then Montrose. I really hope Pat gets to play a full set and not a stripped down one.

Anyone know who is currently the bandmembers in Ronnie Montrose's band? His website is out of commission.

Thanks all.

Hey Bluhawley,

Well, I really want to see Sandy Gennaro more than anything so that is why I chose that particular gig. Sandy is only playing about 4 east coast shows with Pat as far as I know.

As far as Montrose's band, good to hear who he has in the group, those guys are great players!....

Chuck Wright - bass (Quiet Riot, Impellitteri, Giuffria)

Pat Torpey - drums (Mr. Big, Impellitteri)

It should rock!!

I recently authored a Mr. Big show from '99 at the Roxy in LA to DVD. Pat Torpey is a machine gun on the drum kit. He really kicks ass.

This sounds like a tremendous lineup.

Hey Drumzz, Montrose is Ronnie Montrose; Lead Guitar -- Pat Thorpe (Drums from Mr. Big); Chuck Wright on Bass and a look alike sound alike Sammy Hagar - forgot his name on vocals. Have fun at the show, but if I were you I'd save my money to fly into Reno for the July Gig. PT and Montrose, but headlining is either Judas Priest, Robin Trower or Night Ranger - Good Luck bro - Blu

I can see Judas Priest being the headliner in this lineup (based on past commercial success), and to a lesser extent Night Ranger if Priest doesn't show. However, is Robin Trower considered ahead of Pat?

If it's Pat, Ronnie, and Robin, based on past and current commercial appeal and fan drawability, wouldn't this be more like a co-headliner gig between all three?

Having said this, neither Pat nor Ronnie seem like the type that would let this bother him (as long as he's getting paid his fare share).

Hey Randy ...is that you in Korea?

Chris (Drummz) here. I saw Pat Torpey with Mr. Big a few years back and was right up front at a club gig. Man between Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan, and Pat Torpey it was a musicians dream to see. What talent ...geeez!

Torpey can really thump on the drums. Coming from a drummer's standpoint, he is rock solid with great chops.

Looking forward to the Jaxx gig for sure!!

Actually, the gig I authored didn't have Paul Gilbert on guitar. It was instead another of my favorite young guitarists - Ritchie Kotzen.

Hey Jbeseau,

Quite hogging the message board(just kidding) :). You know ther are only a handful of bands/singers that grip my heart like that:

-Marillion (with Fish or Steve Hogarth)
-John Waite (Babys, solo, Bad English)
-UFO (Phil Mogg)
-Pat Travers
-Peter Gabriel (Genesis, solo)

There are more, but these 5 come to mind rather quickly

For the record, I have never, ever had someone that I had only phoned, posted to, and emailed with tell me I was "sorely missed". Does anybody else get it? How, for whatever stupid reasons we connect with people, regardless of geography or face time, or anything else for that matter.

That seems to be a fairly common thread among PTB fans. I think in general we are all like minded in some ways. Some more, some less. Everyone here is pretty much kind hearted and that is what brings us together close even though we are far in distance. We all have different ways of looking at things and different personalities, but in general I think we are all the same types.

What a quiet weekend! Maybe Ed will make a thread/post/sanitarium just for my drunken ramblings!! Sorry if I kept anyone away. I am harmless to everyone except myself!

And Gin - a hangover would suggest I quit drinking!! Just kidding! I have found wine leaves a far less intense hangover than Budweiser! I hardly notice it if I sleep until noon!! Hah! Not in this decade! I haven't slept more than 5 hours in months, regardless of my debauchery the previous night.

Saw "The Life of David Gale" last night, the new Kevin Spacey flick. Not what I expected, but Spacey, as usual, sucks you right in. He is truly gifted. Afterwards, drank coffee and read in IHOP around the corner until after midnight. The waitress recognized me, as well as a customer. I think I'm regular now. I meant, a regular! It's nice to be regular.

Ginbel

You can abstain from continued "making-up" with Bruce already. Consider yourself VERY fortunate to even having any part and possession of NYE material after your actions. Not to mention what I personally went through to get things out to you ASAP.

Mike rocks!!

Scott and Jo

How is evertyhing? Is the fog clearing? Will you be at the Robben Ford concert on the 19th? I am planning on taking my son to see RF on the 22nd for his first concert - he likes the blues and has a fined tuned ear at his age.

RF will be going into the studio end of April/May for yet another CD.

Just a matter of days before RF...and days after that before PT rocks Cali!! Times like this makes being a Cali resident rewarding.

Admittedly, I'm not a fan either (up until a few days ago, I couldn't have told you a thing about this band). But this is only the third "big act" to play here since I got here in the summer of '01, so I just have to take what's offered. They are "between record deals" at the moment, so I guess they are kind of hurting. No doubt that's why they are playing before crowds of a few hundred at gyms on military bases in Korea.

I will author this to DVD and trade it for other DVDs or VHS tapes. If anyone from the PT forum wants to buy a copy I'll sell them for $5 and postage (say an extra buck for postage).

What is inside will be a very big surprise indeed! Some very serious amount of 3-D work is going into this project! The video really draws you in. CC Revisited is playing here at the Tempe music Festival w/ Led Zepagain. Had the fingers crossed that Bruce might get Pat here......but not to happen. 6stages/60bands......guess I'll take a nap during the "all girl tribute band to Iron Maiden"....swear. g

Ha ha, gREG, you'd be surprised, I've seen The Iron Maidens, and they ROCK! I'm not even much of an Iron Maiden fan, but these girls got it down! And the singer's name is Bruce Chickinson, gotta love that! :-)

I'll email you, hopefully later today or tonight, with some more details on Sat. See you there!

Cheers!

Hey gREG,

Steve pretty much nailed it regarding the Maidens. They played here in Seattle about a month ago, and were pretty faithful to the real deal....right down to the bass player wearing those black & white striped pants that the bass player (Steve Harris) is known for...and they did rock indeed. And like Steve, I'm not even a big Iron Maiden fan....As an added bonus, they are also MUCH better on the eyes than the original band, too! LOL!

Well....then NO NAP!!! I saw Maiden 4 times, and thought they ruled!! I thought it had to be some kinda silly act, but now I can't wait!! Wanna see Dream Police too(cheap trick), anyone seen them? Rockp....I guess they would HAVE to look like the original line-up, I can't imagine a bunch a hotties jammin to Maiden. Kinda like Kittie....scarey chit man. g Whattcha all think of the "etched in stone" cover?

I have already chimed in on the "Etched In Stone" cover art - It ROCKS!!

And Iron Maiden Rocks!! Hell, Nicko drums for them!!! Saw them a couple years back when Bruce Dickinson re-joined the band!! Incredible!! I saw them on Bruce's first tour with the band back in 1981 or 1982. What a show!! Number of The Beast!!! What a set of pipes!! And it was funny, an all girl band called Girl's School opened up for them! Anyone know them?! If you don't, after a couple of posts or days, whichever drunk thing/think comes first I will post some info. Maiden and Girl's School both opened up for The Scorpions on the Love At First Sting tour! What a show!!!

Have I said lately that ?

I saw Maiden in their prime in 1983 with Quiet Riot opening. The show rocked! I loved them in high school but the same songs reinvented into different lyrics got old after a few years. That concert still ranks among my fonder memories of concerts that I've attended. Among my other favorites? Cheap Trick, Van Halen (Diver Down tour), Ozzy, and Def Leppard (Pyromania).

Some of my faves:
Van Halen - Fair Warning Tour
Metallica - Master of Puppets Tour w/Cliff Burton on bass
Dio - Holy Diver Tour with Carmine Appice, Jimmy Bain, and Vivian Campbell! Wow!
Iron Maiden - All 6 or 7 times!
Rush - Moving Pictures Tour with Max Webster!
Pat Travers Band - Everyone with Rick & Eric! And the one with Sean & Dave with Vinnie Paul running the soundboard!

There are more, but if I said everyone was my favorite that may cheapen it a bit, don't you think!!?

Jim, seems we saw alot of the same tours. Another fav was Mahogany Rush opening for Nugent. Also saw Max Webster open for Kansas. Another burned memory:Def Leppard opening for Blackfoot. EVERY time I saw Priest(Halford days) and Scorpions. The mob Rules tour w/ Dio was AWESOME......and on-n-on-n-on....Tonight the Tempe music Festival starts!! Yippee!! g

I saw Mahogany Rush in 1979 in Fayetteville, NC with, believe this, 38 Special, Mother's Finest, Nantucket, and one other band I can't remember right now. Amazing what I actually can remember about all the concerts I have ever attended...it makes me know how much music and everything associated with it actually impacts my life.

Hey gREG, still trying to get the info for ya for tomorrow! Be sure to check your email tonight or tomorrow! Are you going tonight? Check out Sticky Fingers if you do (if ya like the Stones). They're good friends of mine, and I've filled in on guitar with them a few times.

On the great concerts subject, how's THIS one:
Aerosmith
Foreigner
Pat Travers (w/Mars, Aldridge & Thrall!)
Van Halen (1st tour!)
AC/DC (w/ Bon Scott)

Yes, this concert happened, in 1978 in Oakland, CA, & I was there! On the PT Acoustic Live CD, Pat mentions this show in the interview at the end, how he was on top of the world that day! The live shots on the back of Go For What You Know are from this show. They just don't make 'em like that any more!

Cheers!

Clipped from Sandy Gennaro's Question Of The Month Section.

MARCH QUESTION OF THE MONTH

Q. How effective is air drumming? Submitted by Keith Mulhare via E-mail

A. Very effective. If you air drum with sticks, it not only strengthens your grip, but is a very effective way to practice silently. All your limbs are doing what they would do on a kit, only quietly. It is a perfect way to practice when a drumkit is not available and/or while living with people who do not want to be disturbed. I nailed my Pat Travers Band audition by rehearsing in this manner.

Have a question for any Northern California Musicians. Husbands band "SPANK" (www.spankmusic.net) is looking for a new keyboard player. If you know of anyone have them contact Matt at padgett05@netzero.net. Practice in San Jose and Gig in the Santa Clara County area. This is the cover band that he is in. Thanks!

P.S. We still have the 1 bedroom cottage available for rent in the Cambrian Area near Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Gatos Border - $850.00/month includes all utilities!!

"Pat Travers at McClellan Park on July 12 (following a confirmed show at the Boardwalk on April 11)."

RF master guitar class on Tuesday and up-close in concert on Wednesday! Then, again on Saturday.

Now I have more respect than before for Kirk Hammett, good for him and others who listed Pat as their favs...very cool indeed!
