Man, so much Led Zeppelin and only so many hours in a day... So much to do but I gotta watch it!

This is great stuff. Glad they finally released this archived stuff. Bonham is incredible! This footage really shows how fearless the band was and how they could just change gears by a mere nod of the head.

P.S. Would you quit the "my DVD is better than yours stuff" - really childish. Rich's stuff is top notch. Everyone seems really happy with the product. Put your money where your mouth is when yours is done then, in the mean, time GIVE IT A REST will ya!

Rich, wish I could take some of the stuff off your hands but can't right now. DAMN

Blu, I'm gonna call HairAss Casino and see if they'll hook me up, as I'm a VIP with them. If not,I think my friends folks may still have a cabin up there but last resort we might try the campground. Won't know if I'm coming until the money hits, and I'm working full time to see that it will, ideally right after I get the State's decision which is no later than July 2.

Alright Music Lovers!!!!!!

Here it is, my Siskel & Ebert of some recently received Ginbel DVDs (thanks Rich....great service, fast service, awesome product).

PTB NYE DVD 2003:
-absolutley awesome! 5 stars across the board! Can't say enough good about this one :) A definite must have.

PTB Live At The Recher 2001 (super saver vol. III):
-Two camera shot and same lineup as NYE DVD, but not as good audio/video quality and that's only because I think Ginbel has reached near perfection on the NYE DVD. I will say that the performance may just rival the NYE DVD and the light show was IMHO better than NYE DVD. I give it 4 stars! :)

PTB Cocoa Beach 1994 (super saver vol. II):
-single camcorder shot of daytime outdoor gig (no lighting). Audio is okay and video is a little obscurred do to the camera person being off to the side a bit and a little below stage level. As Ginbel mentioned, too much coverage on just Pat (not necessarily a bad thing). What I really liked about this one, was the energy of the performance. I actually liked this one better than the '94 Cherokee, NC DVD. I give 3 stars! :)

PTB West Coast Rockin' 1999:
-this one was with Sean Shannon and Dave Larue. Stellar performance!! Video is a bit grainy, but not too much. Audio quality is somewhere between Recher 2001 and Cocoa Beach 1994 (Super Saver Vol. II). I give it a 3 and 1/2 stars!

Peace out Hammerheads! Time to go shopping and get these all. You won't be disappointed!

ps -Hey Rich, what ever happened to "Radioactive Live"

LOL! Already sold.. for a song.. literally. Ehhh.. just a bunch of junk really. Can't watch or listen to it. I am lucky my kids never busted this stuff up. THAT would have been bad! I still have my 14"X14" Hand carved (deep in the glass)AND etched PTB mirror. THAT I am not getting rid of ever! Still have a few things left. Luckily we are getting more buyers from the DVD than we did the double CD. Speaking of CDs.... MUCH more PTB CDs are coming. All live from the 70's! Details later.

Hey Ginbel,

Question regarding Super Saver Vol. II (Cocoa Beach '94). I just finished watching it last night and did not see any of the videos that your E-Bay description claimed to have.

-The Riff
-I Can't Quit You
-Fall To Pieces

The entire thing was an audience camcorder shot. I was under the impression that the above mentioned "videos" were something other than the actual concert. Kind of like the Black Pearl MTV videoa on "Another Killer Day". There is nothing different about the above mentioned songs from the rest of the concert. Did somebody pull a fast one on you and therefore me?

Hey Missing, I went and carefully looked ove rthe auction. I must say I am not really sure how it would get miscontrued. The description does not mention bonus tracks or anything. Also it just lists the songs one after the other as chapters and does not mention those tracks seperatly at all. I thought I was pretty careful when it comes to describing the DVD. There is no video out there of these songs anywhere except for that DVD. If there were it would be on another DVD as bonus tracks and even then it would be from that cocoa Beach show as this is the ONLY source(at least that I am aware of). Go back and read the Ebay description. I think you'll see what I mean. I do have those tracks listed in order, but in caps. this is just so they stand out. Some have never seen him do those live and probably never will.

Point taken!

These songs in caps are songs never before captured on video. :)

Just being a little over zealous I guess. I was hoping for actual videos from Blues Bureau! Can you imagine! :)

Thanks again. I've got some fine viewing and listening to do!

Keep the DVDs and CDs coming! :)

And can anyone translate Tony's post? I really don't want to install a language pack or whatever! I kind of think this is a VOCR show. I remember there was one in Japan, don't I? Mini-Me
Posted on Wednesday, June 04, 2003 - 06:02 pm:

I have to comment on a few "drummer" issues that I have read on this board. First and foremost, Ansley Dunbar is a professional, unwavering timekeeper. Hence, he records and works. Liberty Divitto is a professional, unwavering timekeeper. Hence, he records and works. Now to the controversy. Kevin Neal is NOT a professional, unwavering timekeeper. Hence, he does not work...he looks good..but that should not determine his abilities, which it does not. Second, Eric Frates is not a "recording" quality drummer or Pat would have used him to record his new record...and insisted on it. Also, the person who harps so much that Mike Portnoy is the stellar drummer...please listen to his recordings...he speeds, slows down, and basically overplays. Neil Peart does not do this. Neil is a professional and an unwavering timekeeper. He is not and I repeat not a jazz drummer. He has perfected the "mechanical" feel drummer that made Rush famous. I have drummed for years and know my faults and also have the inate ability to sense good and bad drumming based on my own faults. So my issue is not to undermine players that Pat has chosen to play with, but to describe the difference between "great" drummers that work constantly and mediocre drummers who land gigs due to extenuating circumstances. Sean Shannon is NOT a great drummer. I heard him with Molly Hatchet, Travers, and others. He does not command or have a NATURAL sense of rhythm that gets your feet tapping...he is a contrived drummer. As Mick Jones said "Paul Rodgers has soul, many don't." Couldn't have said it better myself. Listen to Liberty..listen to AWB drummers, listen to Ansley. These guys are pros. and sought after because of their consistency, not overplaying (flams, ruffs, and other unnecessary showboating). So, I don't agree with the analogy of Pats drummers. One drummer who stood out over the others was Sandy Gennaro and the guy who played with Pat on the Toronto video. These guys play great grooves that are unwavering and easy to for guitar and bass players to lock in. Again, Eric Frates, Mike Portnoy (not in the same category as Frates, but overplays, speeds, slows down all the same)are not in the same league as Liberty, Ansley, or others that shine and work consistently. Who has made the most money if the preceding argument does not hold water? Also, Ringo Starr and Charlie Watts are great at what they do. They support the music and do not try to overplay - they admit they are not Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, or even Neil Peart. They don't have to - they keep GREAT time and sell records. Period.

Oh, and thanks Ed for allowing me to voice my opinion. This board is too safe in my opinion as evident by the posts. I am just trying to play devils advocate and have some folks think outside of the beer (Jim I love ya man!! you are the most honest poster on this board!!!) My mission is not to get people aggravated, but to have them take another look at what is being presented. I will continue to speak my mind regarding musicians...PT chooses great musicians, however, I think he has seen the light lately.
Simon Wright, Liberty, Ansley, Tommy - great recording quality drummers. Some have soul - many don't. Mars has it ..Rick Navarro also has it. Pat exemplifies it!

Mini-Me rocks!

I really mean it. This guy speaks his opinion and appears to be well rounded and educated. :)

I don't agree with everything he says, but respect him nonetheless.

We must not forget that everybody is entitled to their opinion. Everybody! :)

The drummer on the Tronoto video "Boom Boom Live" is Scott Zymowski. Not one of my favorite PT drummers. I actually feel he has a lagging quality to his timing. Listen to "Getting Better" on "Boom Boom Live". You'll hear what I mean.

Your right Mini-Me, There is a "LOT" of freedom on this board. But don't be fooled, things can and sometimes do get out of hand. Then ED comes in and moderates (erases posts) to calm things down a bit.

That's my for now and I'm sticking to it! :)

DVD-A is the new DVD Audio format. Almost all of these are sampled at 96Khz versus 44.1Khz for improved sound quality. More importantly they are in surround sound. I must admit though I have no idea which artist(s) we are talking about. Who are we speaking of? Hey mini-me you were talking about drummers in terms of "time keepers" I think John Bonham is the worst time keeper in popular music I can think of. He was always drunk and played sloppy. Yet i think he is one of the very best ever. Also how do you figure the comments on Eric? Maybe I am clueless or something, but I think Eric is great AND has "soul". I think you must not have seen Rick and Eric play together much. To say Rick has "it" and Eric does not is funny since they are an integral part of each other, They have been playing together forever and have that vibe between themselves as if they can read each others mind. Again I respect your opinion, but just don't agree on some of it. I do feel sooo much of this is personal opinion. One person trash is anothers treasure. Also for you to say Eric is "not a recording quality drummer" also means to me that you probably have not heard any recording with him on it. I can asure you he is absolutely "recording quality" Pat was amazed by him and THAT is why he hired him in the first place. Pat used the mussicians he used on his latest recording becaused that is the musicians he was provided, NOT for any other reasons you intimated. You do have the "right" to trash other musicians if you want. Does not mena you are right though. That is just your two cents worth. Where is the kindness though? You know... "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" A little respect would be nice. Are you such a fantastic drummer that you can sit in judgement of others? Even more to put down Kevin Neal also? Do you have a list of credentials that puts you in a position of authority? Just wondering....

Has anyone mentioned how excellent the NYE DVD is today?

No? Then (sorry Jim) I will.

The NYE DVD is excellent. There, I said it. Video quality is excellent, sound is excellent and Rich's editing and cross-fading etc of images from the 2 cameras is nothing short of superb. If there's anyone out there who hasn't bought it, buy it!

The performance is pretty damn good too!!! LOL.
(Though actually I thought PT voice sounded slightly tired towards the end of the set - or was it my ears - I've only had the chance to watch it once).

TCF, you're in for 2 treats then - the DVD & Mr Hughes live! Seriously jealous! As much as you can say an artist is 'the best', it's tempting to say he's the best singer I've ever seen live! (And like most people here, I've seen quite a few!)

I'd urge anyone who hasn't already to check him out as soon as humanly possible!!

The GHPG.net and Glennhughes.com messageboards are good places to hang out too!

Enjoy!

TC

PS Wasn't going to mention this, but IMO when you mention drummers with 'soul' the whole discussion changes - as a punter - ie non-drummer, I'd say that those with soul aren't NECESSARILY the ones who keep the most perfect time....

Hi Rich

Checked out that site & they all seem to be existing albums but in a DVD-A format - guess that means the PT one is going to be something that's already been out. Probably 'Boom Boom' (AGAIN) LOL. Possibly King Biscuit?

Just to add to my last comment on the drummer debate, I forgot to say that whether a musician has 'soul' or not is ENTIRELY subjective.

It looks to me like all of the 'Live From the Front Row' discs are re-issues of King Biscuit Flower Hour CD's. I'm sure that is what the PT release will be. I guess if you have a surround sound system it may be worth it, but otherwise, a useless reissue, unfortunately.

The drummer thread is interesting. Of course, we will all have different opinions on this. Some of my favorite drummers play off the beat, and some right on it. Bonham & Eric Frates in the former category, Neil Peart & Mike Portnoy in the latter. All 4 are fantastic at what they do, and for very different reasons. The one time I saw Pat with Sean Shannon, he didn't impress me too much, whereas Eric sounded fantastic to me. You can hear Sean's timing problems on the "Best of the Blues + Live" CD, on the live stuff. But then again, Tommy Aldridge tended to be all over the place too, but I think he was great. Go figure.

Check out the new Zep DVD for proof of Bonham's talents!

Cheers!

I was not aware that the release was DVD-audio only...What a waste of time. I whole heartedly agree with Steve Z, "a wasted reissue."

Drummers: Who drums for Dave Matthews Band!? He is a soulful timekeeper in my opinion. WoW! How about Dave Grohl!? In a different category, but more WoW! for me! You want BLAM! and precision how about Tool's drummer! WoW! Someone mentioned Carmine Appice earlier! With Dio! WoW!!

You know, speaking of drummers... how about Alice in Chains drummer Sean Kinney? Thier CD "Dirt" is just unreal. yes, it is a self indulgent introspective of the band and thier addiction to heroin, but man the rythms laid down are just so heavy and thick! On this release the percussion is not what hits you, it's the lyrics and guitar, but after you get done reeling from that and listen to the percussion you realize the genious behind the CD is the drums. I'ts wierd. They are almost invisible at times yet absolutely integral to the music. Very haunting that CD is to me... still. Peart does that in some of his work also. Such a solid foundation to build on. Sometimes you hardly notice it there. Glad everyone is enjoying the NYE DVD! This is what we were aiming at. We really wanted something for everyone to sink thier teeth into. Pat Travers fans are unlike all others in my opinion. You guys have a tenacity for holding on, supporting the band, watching and waiting for something new. I think a lot of patience goes into being a PTB fan. This is a trait we all share. We wanted to "salute" all of you in a way. This is our salute to you!! Enjoy! Cheers!!! (no I am not drinking... yet) and if I have not said it before.... thank you!

Funny you should mention that, Rich. My band is doing both "Them Bones" and "Would?" from Dirt. AIC blew my mind! Too bad about dumb-assed Layne . . . have you heard Mad Season, his solo effort? We're also doing "River of Deceipt" from that one. Nothing from Cantrell's solo yet, but will give it another listen when I steal it back from my oldest son. With the Deep Purple and Zeppelin stuff, we're sounding more and more like Jimmy Pagemaker/Bitchie Slackmore's bands (Steve Z's alter egos) heh heh heh

PS -- Happy 21st (YIKES) anniversary to Grace and I! It can be done . . .

Randal-I love River Of Deceipt. What a great song that you never hardly ever hear any more. Layne's lyrics are so haunting and telling: "My pain is self chosen."

On the topic of Seattle drummers, how about Soundgarden's drummer? He and Dave Grohl were my favorites of the Seattle "grunge" sound of the early 90's.

And who is the Bad @$$ Mother 'Effer who plays drums on PTB's Wiser Man!? Holy Hell! The first words out of my mouth after hearing that bad @$$ tune for the first time was, "What a fat bottom that one has!" Eric's got some kicking $h1T when called for! Don't doubt it!

Have fun at the Coach House (my house..Ed). I turned Roger LeBlanc, the booking agent and my very good friend the owner Gary Folgner onto the gig with PT tomorrow night. I couldn't make it this time. They asked me to do it again, but I had them call Don Barnard this time. I set up the deal though!!! Like I did for Eric's Birthday last September 1.

Tickets for the big show that doesn't show on Bad Company's web site - A silent dynomite gig, with Pat Travers Band, Tommy Aldridge on Drums and Mars on Bass I guess. (lol). They all want to jam with Bad Company. Tickets will be on sale in a few short days at ticketweb.com. What a HOT Festival this will be. The Lake Tahoe Rockin Blues Festival. NOT the "1st Annual" like the "gigs" page says. They still haven't gotten it listed correctly. Oh well. Billfrye is lagging. (lol). Randall keep me posted. Posted on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 01:44 pm:

Randal,

Please turn that bass down! I can hear it all the way on the east coast! I was in the produce section in Kroger when I heard Spoonman being played at a perverse volume. I grabbed a spoon and started air guitaring. Dogs started barking nationwide, Frank Zappa and the Mothers were at the best place in town, and then some stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground.

Then the Sex Sirens grabbed me (I won't disclose the location, although I will say I did not pass the package inspection) and performed lewd but enjoyable acts on my mini (whoops gave it away). I then got on a bus in a frogman suit with an overweight bus driver.....then my mini-wife in curlers flogged me with a copy of Hot Shot. I then proceeded to answer the doorbell and lo and behold beloved, they lasered my mini-wife. Now all I do is watch PT videos and play white noise in the background...just in case.

So make no mistake, if I hear that bass again cranked past 5 I am going to have Dave Grohl do a drum solo on your front lawn!

And if that fails, I will have Bill Clinton play "Margaritaville" on the sax without a reed installed.

If that fails, I will personally hire Two-Live Crew to rap until you move (that should only take a couple bars).

Thank you and God bless America (And Canada Cindy!). And remember, bass players are nothing more than guitar players who are missing two strings! (in most cases). And you know what? I don't drink as much as I used to...I drink more.

By the way I agree with everything!

If ya get the chance to catch them all together, DO IT!!! PT and his friends, the Rex Rogers Band, are playing tonight on the west coast of Floriduh tonight and tomorrow night. I have a couple of friends, really, I have friends, that will be at the shows. I will be out tonight supporting a couple of the local bands, they need the moola I hear. I've been a PT fan since 1979 and I've been reading these messages on and off for the last 2 years...Isn't funny how 10 years ago we were all capable of leading constructive lives without the capability of the internet, let alone a computer in our home?...This is my first post on this board and I'd like to start by saying a grand "Thank You" to Rich Stansell who is pretty much the "Bill Gates" of PT merchandise...If it wasn't for Rich (aka Ginbel) we would still be listening to a scratchy/popping/cracking LPs dubbed onto cassettes or we would be paying $20 for some cheap CD-R with horrible sound and generic artwork on some piece of paper the thickness of toilet paper.

There are alot of people on this board who appreciate what Rich has done with the PT merchandise and there are alot of people who appreciate Ed's hard work in maintaining an outstanding official PT website...but there is always the one or two or three bad apples in the bunch...and for those folks all I ask is to take a moment and think about how much hard work goes into taking an LP and dubbing it onto a CD AND then doing artwork for it...OR taking a video and transferring it into a computer and then onto a DVD and then editiing it/authoring it dubbing it onto a DVD and then chaptering it and then adding surround sound...well, I hope you get my point...

So, there you go...my FIRST post on this PT board is a simple "Thank You" to Ed and Rich Stansell for doing what Polydor couldn't do...keeping the music of PT alive and well!

Morning everyone....

Wow! Wishbox Of Voices is a DON'T MISS show!

The pipes that roared last night were incredible.

Robin McCauley - totally cool dude. Extreme vocalist. Still sings like an Angel. Wow!

Alex Ligertwood - I've been impressed by his singing for years and years and years and am even more so now after seeing several VOCR and Wishbox of Voices shows... Wowser!

Glenn Hughes. What else can be said that hasn't already been said about him. Alex introduces Glenn as one of the greatest Rock and Roll Voices ever! While that is a very subjective statement.... After what I've heard over the past two weeks I tend to agree. After one listens to Glenn sing "Mistreated" I don't see how anyone could possibly disagree. Wowser Yowser!

It was a great night! Three English gents getting together with one of their favorite local bands and belting out their favorite tunes!!! Man-O-Man what a show!

Last but not least - Wishbox Rocks! In an amazing feat Wishbox has pulled off yet another coup in the "band that just won't quit" catagory... learning some 40+ songs in just a couple of weeks. Outstanding JOB!!! YOU guys ROCK!

Thank you TLO!
also Thank you Wishbox and the VOICES for an outstanding evening of amazing songs!!!

On a final note.... I finally worked out 99.99% of the kinks in my videography, and actually got some good video last night!! LOL! Thanks very kindly to Wishbox Of Voices and Zepagain for letting me incessantly point my lens in their general direction!

Wishbox of Voices ROCK!

Just a general comment...I live in Florida and am unable to get P.T. Power Trio. Seems to me that they would at least distribute to Florida!! I have called Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, etc., and am unable to score. Suggest they market the product more effectively. I guess I will buy on line....

Just an observation...I have heard and seen Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale interviewed on numerous occasions. They both have a common denominator...arrogance, holier than thou, etc. My opinion is that they are over the hill out of touch "rock stars" who sell minimal albums (latest). To ignore fans is instant death..to mock them is chivalry. Hopefully, I will not get blasted by the masses for making this observation...maybe some of you have noticed this....Aerosmith does not act like that and they have outsold both of those cross-dressers!!!

Blu - I never said EVERYONE was happy with Rich's service & stuff, but a lot more people say positive things than negative.

Mini-me - I don't think anyone's going to blast you. Glenn can seem (or be - I'm never sure) a bit arrogant but he does usually treat his fans well, so it all seems a bit weird. I've asked some friends on the Glenn Hughes messageboards for their comments on what happened at Brookdale. I know a few of them spoke to him.

Can't agree personally that Glenn's over the hill. (I'm not sure about Coverdale - I've never been that keen and haven't seen him live for years!)

Sales certainly have nothing to do with talent etc - just look at PT as an example!!!!! He should sell millions but doesn't!!!!

Also not sure about the 'cross-dresser' thing! Where does that come from?

I saw Cheap Trick in concert back in February 1981. After the show I met Robin Zander at the hotel where they were staying. He was a total pompous ass - a first class prick - a real @sshole, etc., etc. To this day I still talk smack about him.

Last summer I met Glenn when he was in Korea doing the Voices of Classic Rock tour. I even helped him out with the Korean soundman (Glenn wanted the echo to go faster - the Korean soundman couldn't speak any English). He was an absolute gentleman to me in every sense of the word. All this, in spite of my not recognizing him and calling him by the wrong name (I thought I heard someone calling him Bob or Dave, or some other name).

I don't know if your opinion is based on any first hand experience along with what you've seen or TV or not.

Entertainers have good days, bad days, long days, lonely days...

Maybe I just caught Robin at the wrong moment and Glenn at the right moment. Who knows?

I'll conclude this by saying: ROBIN ZANDER IS A TOTAL DICK!

Wait a sec... I know.... It's gotta be that little ghost girl! She don't like Rock and Roll! She also changed the clock in my room last time I stayed there. :) Spooooooky.

TC - yes I got some video of Glenn. I split up all three voices at the Coach House. Half pictures and half video of each voice.

McClelland is canceled - hopefully it will be rescehduled.

That's all folks!

Think you hit the nail on the head Randy!

On the Cheap Trick messageboard only yesterday someone posted:

"Anyhow, after the concert, my wife and I go back to the Holiday Inn where we stayed, and after cleaning up a bit we decide to go down to the hotel bar to have a drink. I open my door and at the same time someone opens their door across the hall...HOLY ****!!! It's Robin!!!

We all go down to the bar, I buy him a beer, and we have 30-40 minutes with the greatest singer in the world!!! Then Mr. Carlos shows up! The waitress did'nt know who he was...she asked me if we had a celebrity here? I told her HELL YES!!!

Robin talked about the new CD and how long it took to do "Special One" in Japanese! He also said they are going to be the half time entertainment while in Japan for the NFL Preseason game there!!! All in all, what a night it turned out to be!!! It was great!"

Backing up your comments about artists just being people & not necessarily nice people or nasty people!

Apologies to anyone who's not interested, but just to let anyone who cares know, this is what one of my friends in GlennHughesville had to say to the question 'What happened' at Brookdale:

"1) Crap venue & support staff, i.e. security
2) Crap sound system

Security would not have been necessary had a certain element of the small crowd not been there. Some guy made himself known during the first singalong section of Robin McAuley's set.

When Robin put the mike out over the crowd, this guy grabbed it and pulled it down to scream into it. Then he kept motioning for Robin to pass the mike back to him on the next chorus. A-hole.

When Glenn came on, not only could he not hear himself singing, but this guy was offering to sing FOR Glenn. What?! Then he just stepped onto the stage, grabbed the mike and started singing Mistreated. Glenn took off his bass and left.

These circumstances were entirely out of hand. There was no one to remove the a-hole from the stage, and the cumulative effect of these several negative factors killed any chance of a salvageable set from our man GH.

I think all of us wanted to leave Brookdale ASAP. Glenn was just the first to act on it"

Having given it some thought, I'd like to think I'd have been as understanding! I know it was the A-hole's fault, but I suspect (much as I love Glenn) I'd have felt a bit cheated - esp if I hadn't seen him at the Coachouse as the guy who wrote that already had.

All academic for me of course as I'm in the UK (LOL)!

TC thanks for the information on Glenn Hughes. He probably was having a bad day. I actually associate arrogance with David Coverdale. The reason I used cross-dresser is because of some of the clothes both of them sport!! It is a little fruity! Nevertheless, Glenn is an excellent singer and I have always thought he blew David Coverdale off the stage when he was with purple...case in point - California Jam 1974.

No probs Mini-me.

I know what you mean about Cov. I think I agree about when they were in Purple, though I think Glenn used to go a bit over the top in the wrong places sometimes in those days!

I do like the way their voices contrast on the Purple stuff though.

Speaking of contrasting voices, it's such a shame the PT/GH album never happened a couple of years ago - 2 of my favourite singers and their voices are great together!!!! (Must be at least 10 minutes since I mentioned that one!)

Okay, my turn. I met David Coverdale when he was going out with/being beaten up by Tawny Kitaen, who also happens to be the daughter of my friend's wife Linda. We got backstage passes at the Whitesnake/Great White show, and yes there were pyrotechnics but we all made it out alive. Anyway, David was very cool and although Tawny was quite plastic, she looked great and acted really nice. Chatted with David and Tommy Aldridge for a bit and had a few good laughs. Haven't met Glenn, but that night David was very pleasant. Maybe Tawny was gonna kick his arse if he stepped out of line, I don't know LOL. By the way, if you like(d) her, you oughtta see her little sister -- WOW

Fair enough Randal. I must admit now I think about it I don't remember hearing anyone who's met Cov say bad things about him. Mind you I don't remember hearing much about him either way from people who have met him!

I haven't been on his website for ages but I think he still chats away with everyone on the messageboard, which is really cool. But he did seem to spoil it a little bit by getting really pompous occasionally!

And I have to say that, to me, he has sometimes come across as arrogant on stage & in interviews etc.

Maybe it's just the way he comes across from time to time. For what it's worth I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt (LOL)!!! (He should be able to sleep OK tonight now knowing that....)

PS So at the risk of talking about PT, were a couple of those song titles mentioned by Blu & Rich unreleased goodies? (Seems weird mentioning Blu & Rich together like that...LOL! Hi Rich!!!)

Hey Bette, You are soooo right. Daryl and I have been agonizing over which shows to plan for. We want to go to Tahoe, but it is right in between the July and August PT marathon runs in No. Cal. What a delima! I told Daryl I thought his only choice was to stay up here through all of July and August, so we could just make all the shows. Dang work always seems to get in the way of good times. Tahoe sure sounds like great fun though, wonder if Ed's goin? I'm sure Scott and Jo will make it? HMMMMMM? this is gonna be tough.

Unfortunately, guys like Glenn and Pat don't have the full staff they had back in the day, and they have to rely on venue security (assuming there is any) for these things.

Having said this, these guys aren't drawing a crowd of rabid teenagers and young 20-somethings anymore. The crowd is in their 40s for the most part, so the security isn't usually necessary.

Too bad for Glenn and the rest of the audience.

It's too bad you guys had some bad experiences with arrogant stars. Try to remember that you are only interacting with them for a VERY brief period. They are under tremendous pressure to perform well. On top of that they to "meet and greet" with humans they have never met and will never meet again(also stressful). Not making excuses, but think if the shoe was on the other foot.... You would not want people bad mouthing you a cross the planet because you had an off day. just a thought(or even two)... I remember saying something to Joe Lynn Turner and pissing him off pretty bad. At first I thought "what a jerk", but after a while I realized I was out of place to have said what I did. I think it is a phenom with famous people... we seem to feel we know them. they come in to our homes via the T.V. or radio day after day (or whatever). They seem familiar to us. In truth we may know quite a bit about them, but they (obviously), know nothing of us. Imagine strange people coming up to you like... "Hey man! God I love your stuff!"(all drunk usually), "wow, you are great!!"(reeking of whiskey), "hey, sign this". Man, I don't know, but I would be willing to bet after a while you just want to barf whenever you have to shake the hand of someone you never met. Fame, ain't it a bitch. LOL! One thing for sure... Pat raised that bar a LONG time ago! I have never seen another musician like him. He has a real appreciation for the fans and it shows. Some times I wan to run away when I see some overly intoxicated person coming at him(hey that could be me![8~})He just smiles and puts his arm around him for the photo op. Whew, better him than me. I'd be plain scared. God, bless him! Speaking of shows and such... WOW! What a schedule this year! I can't remember another summer with this many dates. Ed would know. What do you think Ed? Is this a record or what?! Oh, there is part of the USA... it is called the EAST COAST!! just kidding. I think the club scene(especially rock) is just really slow. We are too busy wrking and stressing out over the Bush administration. Hey, you left coaster are "Bogarting" all the fun! It's "hit-pass" NOT "hit-hit-pass" get it right would ya' LOL! Have a great day everyone! Peace out. Rich

Funnily enough Rich I've never personally had a bad experience with a 'star' - I've never really gone in for that stuff.

For example I've never spoken to Pat even though I know he's happy to chat to fans - maybe one day!

I can never think of what I want to say to any of the artists I'd be interested in talking to. I've always thought I'd only really want to do it if you could sit down one-to-one over a beer and 'have a proper chat' LOL!!!!

I did very briefly meet Glenn quite recently and he seemed really cool, but I was in a bit of a rush!

A guy I used to go to gigs with in my college days used to be into getting to meet the artists. So I met a few with him (he was really good at it actually - got loads of fairly big stars chatting happily!)

Through him I met a few and I'm pleased to say one of them was Phil Lynott. I also saw Jeff Beck get bounced off a wall by a pot-bellied Mancunian, but that's another story!!! It was quite funny - I've never seen a human scuttle off in quite such a rodent-like way as Jeff did....

Rich, good points about celebrity meetings. The same star can be super friendly, or the nastiest a-hole, depending on the circumstances when you meet them. I met Joe Lynn Turner at a Deep Purple show a few years back. Gave him a flier for the Deep Purple tribute I was in at the time, and when he saw the name "Bitchie Rackmore" on it he almost fell over laughing! He said that was the perfect name!

I agree, Pat is INCREDIBLY gracious when meeting fans. I'm sure there are times when he must think, "I can't take meeting another drunken fan!" But he accepts that it is important for his fans, and means a lot to us to have that chance to say hello.

Cheers!

Bedtime (in the UK) diatribe (3am over here. sleep problems stink):

Sorry Tony, it's only my view, but Thin Lizzy?

One tribute tour is all Lizzy should've been without Philo.

If anyone MUST do anything else with it, every penny should go to the Roisin Dubh Trust. It doesn't. I'm pretty sure Brian Downey said he hadn't even been invited this time.

Much as I like Scott & John, this current resurrection seems pretty artistically & emotionally bankrupt to me.

The host of Lizzy covers bands keep the name alive. (Limehouse Lizzy doing it particularly well in the UK.)

Almost anything else reeks of cash in now.

Sorry, I know this is a non PT rant but (ironically probably like Tony) Lizzy are one of the bands I REALLY care about.

Ed....I'm coppin' a BAD visual of you in that Swan Thong....MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!! SAVE US ALL!!!

LOL!

Hey Steve Z, checked out your Zep site. Very professionally done. Props to you, sir! Gotta love you for the Sheer Heart Attack tribute, too! Nothing like Queen in the early days when they were still a respectable ROCK band....An all-time favorite for me!

Very little talk about the P.T. Power Trio release when it came out, and even less now. Hmmm...maybe EVERYONE is feeling the frustration of the lack of the originals getting released?
Opinions & comments, please....

Regarding the "rock star attitudes" discussions lately.... First and foremost, they are people just like you & me. (People are people wherever you go...If you wanna know why, it's 'cause I'm tellin' you so!) As humans, we all have our good days and our bad days. As an ex-concert photographer for both a newspaper and a small fledgling rock magazine, I've certainly met my share of "stars" over the years. 99.9% were genuinely nice folks. (Including Coverdale and Zander). The few exceptions in my case were David Lee Roth on his Eat 'Em & Smile Tour (and where's he now???) and Paul Stanley, who I was able to smugly put in his place without actually trying. He completely set himself up for the humiliation. (P.T. Queen Cindy knows that story!). Ironically, I've seen both sides of Pat over the years. Proof that he's human! Jerry Riggs was ALWAYS, without fail, the consumate gentleman & professional. It's a hectic lifestyle professional rockers live out on the touring road. Give them some slack. Don't take it personal. They're away from home and the security of their family and loved ones more often than not, and they meet LOTS of weirdos in the concert circles. It ain't all glamour...instead, it's really hard work! Most that I've come across were great...just show them respect. They appreciate that more than idol worship (Except for Roth). Just my two cents worth.....

Rich, got my PT NYE DVD in the mail today. Bravo, my man! Your Momma would be proud of ya! Gonna be tough to beat THIS one! Hope you're diggin' the tunes I sent your way...

And as always...PTB is King!

One tribute tour is all Lizzy should've been without Philo.

Much as I like Scott & John, this current resurrection seems pretty artistically & emotionally bankrupt to me.

TC

It seems like you'd never be able to pull something like this off... TL without Phil...

Having said that, I just finished up a "The Doors of the 21st Century" DVD from 22 May (Tampa, FL). I thought it was a terrific show. Ian Astbury (lead vocalist for The Cult) does an amazing job of... singing the vocals. I was going to say "copying Jim Morrison" because he sounds and acts just like Jim. However, he somehow is able to pull it off without looking like a copycat. It's hard to describe.

Maybe it's because Thin Lizzy's "persona" was mostly Phil, while Robbie Krieger and Ray Manzarek had a larger part of what made The Doors the band that it was while Jim was alive.

Hello all.........read some of the Lizzy rant and it brought back memories. I booked them a couple of years in a row here in Texas but with Tommy Aldridge and Marco Mendoza in tow. I surely wouldn't have the same interest minus those two guys although I'm a huge Sykes fan....since Tygers. Whoever said it reeks of "cash-in" is probably right but only to the tune of the boys trying to pay rent and bills. None of those guys have a big stash and the bills keep coming in. What would we all do if we were in the same situation and the easiest thing to do is pack up a well known name and easy song list and hit the road? I think that's an easy answer......
And I'm damn glad to see Rick and Eric gigging with PT on a regular basis again......God Bless PT fans and we'll see ya at the Maiden/DIO show!

Maiden and Dio! Man, I would love to check that out. I remember sneaking into the library in high school and my buddy popped in the "Run To The Hills" and "Number Of The Beast" videos on the VCR. We were like twelve-year olds watching our first porn flick. We were blown away! MTV wasn't yet available in my neck of the woods, and watching videos after only hearing the songs was amazing at the time. I was the official Dio cheerleader at my high school. Ah, the memories.

Yeah, I recall hearing that story, lol lol....see what you all have missed, missing out on the PT chat's we had in the past? Sure had a ton of laughs in those chats.....I think at one point there was some strippers in there, lmao,....hhmmm who was that again? damn too bad they didn't have webcamera then, lol...I remember who they were now, not gonna say, will protect the guilty persons', lol

Hey Blur! you were the one that asked me before about Killer Dwarfs videos! I am in the mist of moving right now, BUT I have the summer off, house sitting in a small town, VERY small town, so I will have plenty of time to go through and look for the killer dwarfs video!

Thanks Rockpig, cool that someone remembers the good old school Queen stuff! When my tribute band played full time, we used to do lots of that stuff, like Ogre Battle, Liar, Stone Cold Crazy... killer stuff! We shied away from the (mostly) crap they put out in the 80's!

And speaking of Queen & rock star meetings, I got to meet Brian May at an Aerosmith show about a year ago. Without a doubt, the nicest guy in showbiz! Made you feel like he really cared to talk to his fans. Anyone who's ever met him will tell you the same thing. PT comes in a pretty close second. Always very gracious towards his fans.

Pat is hands-down the most down to earth rocker I've met. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons were extremely cool when my buddy and I met them at age 16 while staying at the Edgewater in Seattle. They blew in from the Spokane show at about 3 am with Canadian hookers in tow, and it was me, my buddy and a teenage girl with her little brother with KISS, sans make-up, chatting away in the lobby! We hung out for about 45 minutes, telling Gene (they all laughed at me for calling him Mr. Simmons, with Peter Criss saying, "Oh, is Gene's father here?") that we knew they'd be there because we read Circus Magazine faithfully and had met Robert Plant there a month or two earlier, and having Paul tell us about the coming solo albums which came out two years later as well as asking him about Angel (another Casablanca act, if you haven't heard them, DO because Punky Meadows SHREDS on guitar and Greg Giuffria is an excellent keyboardist along with Frank Dimino's shreaking vocals). The fun ended when Gene told two of the hookers "I'll bet you two would like to get together" and off they went.

But Pat has spent extended periods talking with me and others, in my experience ALWAYS very kind and considerate. Playing blackjack with him in Tahoe was a real treat, but nothing could have been better than hanging out with Pat and the Heinie faithful in my backyard after Camp Heineken! Those of you who were there know what I mean -- it was pretty surreal, talking about his dog while he petted my dog Sally, and let's just say socializing with everyone (several asses were kicked LOL). Pat is definately the fans' own gentleman of rock and roll

And probably one of the most honest as well. I remember someone asked him what he thought was Queen's best album. Without hesitation he said "Queen II." The funny thing about it - they were touring in support of a new album. When's the last time you heard someone admit that the newest album wasn't the best one yet?

I've got nice copies of two one-hour Queen shows: one from 1974 and the other from 1975. I want to make a nice two-hour DVD. That's going to be a killer DVD. Early Queen is hard to beat.

Ah yes, the infamous Came Heine! Yep, gotta say Pat is even extremely gracious when you catch him with a bottle of chardonnay in his hotel room as he's trying to go to sleep!

Rand, cool that you remeber Angel! I saw them back in 78 with the whole magic appearing & disappearing act, it was pretty cool! Totally over the top 70's stuff! I used to get together with some musician friends & jam Angel tunes; we were gonna start a tribute band, but figured our audience would probably consist of the guys from Angel, and not a whole lot more!

Randy, go to it on the Queen DVD, I'll take a copy from you! They're releasing a new DVD of Live at Wembley 1986 next week, with the complete show. Not as cool as the early stuff, but they still put on a pretty killer live show then. The remastered We Will Rock You concert DVD is pretty cool, too.

Cheers!

Then punch in Bad Company and you will see the gig info. Maybe Lizzy next time with Pat and Robin Trower in November for our "Pray for Snow" Concert (indoors of course - See ya - Blu

I think Pat knows what he's doing...After all "PTB IS KING" ...Off the Power Trio, I listened to Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings 10 times in a row - wow. Now I'll listen to the others - sheesh... 670 tickets sold in the first three days for July 26 and 586 sold for July 27th and there's so much time yet. This is one of the fastest pre-sells I have had in a while. We'll it's at Lake Tahoe right on the lake - so what else can you ask for? Maybe I should start selling shows for November???

I thought "Don't feed.." kinda... well...put it this way I listened to it twice and have not heard it since. This CD though is light years from that one!! I love it!! I hate to say this, but... it is one of my favorites by him. The songs all fit the musicians and Pat's playing is immpecable. I grew up listening to most of these tunes and Pat does them better than they did. I was soory to hear the CD end. Sounded way too short. That's okay... I just played it several times in a row. I love the energy of the CD. Someone did a great job with the song selection and arrangement. Thanx to whomever that was! Thanx to Pat for sowing us he CAN play something different AND still wail away on it. Color me happy! Peace Out Rich

Hey people...just wanna say hi and let you know there's a new guy on da block. I have been a fan of Pat Travers now since about 1975. I must of seen Pat about 15 times live. My fave tour was the "Heat in the street" tour way back, long time ago...lol.
Those of you that e mailed me and want to know where Im from...Long Island, N.Y. - EASTERN. I play guitar myself now since I was a kid.
I also enjoy the music of TOMMY BOLIN, GLENN HUGHES, JOE LYNN TURNER, and some Deep Purple (NO GILLAN, just Coverdale's Purple and of course Deep Purple "Come taste the band"- which featured Tommy Bolin, all guitars and Coverdale and Hughes(Bass/vocals) shareing the vocals. I do enjoy Glenn Hughes ALOT.
Now getting back to Pat travis....the man the myth the legend. Pat has a sound that I always LOVED out of his guitar and always will. I really enjoyed the "Voices of rock" band which I believe included Pat Travis...
ok guys...gonna bounce for now. My pleasure meeting everyone and thank you for letting me be a member at this site. Peaceout. Joe Gotti.

Got my copy of the NYE DVD. Very nice show and great job by Rich.

From a technical standpoint, I'd like to point out what I thought was the most challenging aspect of this particular 2-cam.

I'm guessing the camera on the right had the automatic exposure on and the filmer didn't go to manual exposure (I'm not trying to knock the filmer - I've got no idea who it was - just stating a fact from the technical side of things). The result is that things tend to look too bright or whited out at times.

Now - taking two videos like this and mixing them AND making them look like they go together naturally is no easy feat. However, Rich pulled it off.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend,

Randy

I too just watched the PTB NYE DVD for the first time and I agree with Randy. The editing was great, not to many special effects, and all in all very well put together. The camera work left a lot to be desired because of the lack of lighting control. Still, I really did enjoy the show and look very much forward to another PT/PTB DVD in the future. By the way, I do have a about dozen pics of the PTB that I took in Palatka Floriduh this past Memorial Day weekend and if anybody wants me to e-mail them to ya just e-mail me at inboard@earthlink.net and let me know.
