Not Cali. They grow it pretty darn good right here in Penn. I mean you know.. so I have heard. Naturally I have now first hand knowledge or anything like that. I never heard that Alman Bros song. I don't have any of their stuff. I was jamming to Soft Machine. An old album called Bundles. Mostly it's Alan Holdsworth. Incredible guitar player. Mostly jazz fusion stuff. Some REALLY out there guitar work on other releases and other stuff is super mellow almost classical, but with jazz overtone. Why is this starting to sound like a wine description? LOL!

Hey Hammerheads,

Just a quick Siskel & Ebert on the Majestic Rock PT re-issues (Debut & Makin' Magic). I'm afraid that my copies suffer the same fate as described here on this message board. Lots of static throughout. :( I'd steer clear of these until they correct them (if they can?)

The static to me sounds like the tape machines need to be de-magnetized. I use to run into this with cassette years ago. After much recording and playback, the tape heads build up excessive magnetic charges and transmit this sonically as static. It's also damaging to the tape as well because it pulls the magnetic particles off of the tape, which results in a loss of sound quality. Ther tape heads turn into strong magnetics and will suck the music right off of your tape (literally).

Stevie & Blur,

Electric Detective are a couple of friends of mine that I met back while this site was on AOL.

Well, Bill turned out to be one of those jaw dropping guitarist that you run into from time to time (and would love to strangle )and Allan had been playing drums off and on for many a year.... methinks he was even in a High School band with my other buddy Daryl.

Anyways one day we were chatting on AOL and decided to do a PT TRIBUTE. Those guys practiced their fingers to the bone and then after a brief search we found a studio, rented it and recorded the very first PT tribute CD!

BTW - I tried to participate but... but in all honesty... my talents were seriously lacking so I just provided logistical support and beer.

Bill has since disappeared, moving up to Seattle the last I heard. If he reads this I hope he e-mails me.

Allan is still out there playing and jamming around. Incidentally he did do another PT / Rush tribute with a band called Fire Monkey which featured the surprising guiatristic fireworks of (once again) my other buddy Daryl. (maybe one day I could upload some of those songs Big D?) Allan is one of the most laid back drummers I've ever seen and just one cool dude. Last I heard he was in a Southern California based progressive rock trio called Worm Unit.

Bottom line with the E.D. CD was that Bill had everything in his head. It was amazing. I had never seen anyone play so much guitar with such accuracy in all my life. He must have laid down a minimum of 4 - 6 guitar tracks per song. Plus the vocals, harmonies and backing vocals and on top of all that he laid down a pretty solid bass line. And just in ONE DAY. Well he did do a few overdubs the next day during which he completely removed and rerecorded the lyrics to Snortin'. I really like the edit on that song. All in all he's the kinda musician that just makes me sick.

Hey Missing, I think it's from a high speed dub from the master. The process of flying polyester ribbon tighly over a metal head cause static. If the unit is not properly maintained this is what you get. What floors me, is no one proofs this crap! Unreal. hey Nancy and Bert!!! Long time no chat! How's Ian these days? Miss him too. Just a little funny story to tell, my daughter is wanting Incubus tickets, but I just bought her Chingy/Christina Aguilar tickets so I told her she has to earn the money for Incubus, well this 14 year old kid got up at 6:00a this morning to do her own little garage sale, she just called me at work here and said she has made over $100.00 already! Guess she is going to Incubus!

Tony, Kristina wants to know if you will be there and if so she wants to see you.

Yesterday we went to Tony Spinner and his band in the -alway's very nice- bluescafé in Apeldoorn(Holland)We didn't know what to expect from him, but he did a very nice job.
Great covers from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Lynnyrd Skynnyrd,Hendrix, ZZ-TOP and much more.Tony has a great bluesfeeling and played almost 3 hours! It was a great bluesnight.
Now this tuesday he will play in our hometown,YEAH.
And 18 april it's time for the return of the great Y&T!!!!
But then the biggest moment is yet to come.....PTB!!!!!
(allthough the show of A Perfect Circle was awesome too, last januari)

Just a note to let you how much we enjoyed the PTB show in Houston a couple of Saturdays ago. I have been a Pat Travers fan since 1978 and he put on a great show. My only complaint was that there were too many warm up bands (3). We got there at 6:30 PM and he didn't take the stage until well after midnight. I think we finally got home around 3:30AM. But a great show! Hope you come back to Texas, compadre.

Johnny Houston.........glad you enjoyed the Houston show!! It's very common for our shows here in Texas to start from 10 p.m. to 12 midnight. On weekdays we shoot for an earlier start to draw more rockers out where as on weekends we start by midnight so the bar can bank and rockers have a reason to sleep late the next day! It's not an option for a bar that's out to make big bar money with a national act to start the headliner at 8 or so and end by 9:30 p.m............then the crowd is gone by 10:30 and the bar loses that precious drinking time. It's all a business issue for the clubs that book us.........starting live music early draws drinkers and keeping it going till 2 a.m. keeps the bar going as designed. I'm like you though........I'd rather show up an hour before PT plays and pass on the local jam if given the option. Maybe we're getting old???? There was a day that bars had to kick me out at 2:30 a.m.........now I'd like to be in bed by 11 p.m. or so..........Oh well, see ya at the next Houston show!

I'm now looking forward to Friday, but I must admit I dont want to see Maynard in a diaper with his back to me though. Although the MUSIC is what its all about, I like to see a good SHOW too, know what I mean?? That is why PT NEVER disappoints me, cuz he is a LIVE player and showman with energy. Gotta tell you I'm also very stoked to see Los Lonely Boys next month. Hoping everyone has a nice Easter holiday...............Peace

Hey Steve (and everyone else),

I believe that the article that Blur mentioned can be found at WWW.HARDERBEAT.COM

I did a Google search and located this article, and it stated that Polydork wanted $5.00 for each CD + an additional $30,000 for Spitfire to release those Polydork releases, and it was gonna come to something like $800,000.00 for it to happen and Spitfire said that was too much, so those releases were scrapped. Now apparently, Polydor is thinking about releasing them, and are asking Pat to write some new liner notes!?!?!

If this ever happens, I WILL NOT buy one friggin' CD from Polydork UNLESS we find out FOR CERTAIN that our man Pat will be getting SOME kind of royalties check for them. If he's left out of that equation, Polydork can kiss my ass!
(Whoa! Calm down Pig!) LOL!

Well, everyone...don't have time for a full-blown review as I am still catching up on sleep because of the time change (Daylight Savings, arrrgh...I have gremlins with pickaxes chopping my brain into little TINY pieeeeeeces)and being out late to see the REAL PTB as it is SUPPOSED to be. Pat and da boyz were on fire as always. After sitting through an opening act which was worse than a proctology exam (a cheesy solo electric pianist with a horrible sense of humor), the band was greeted by the substantial crowd with great appreciation, and a huge sigh of relief! After plinking away at a few test notes to make sure his axe was tuned, and a thunderous perididdle or two from Eric on his (locally rented?) drum kit, the boys tore into "Hooked On Music" and they were off to the races. In addition to the old familiar favorites, Pat pulled out "I Look Better From a Distance", a new one from the (hopefully) soon-to-be-released "Travers & Appice: It Takes a Lot of Balls", featuring Eric on lead vocals. I'd only heard him sing "Fortunate Son" at Islands of Adventure. He's got a great voice! The set list, as near as I can remember it, follows:

1. Intro/Hooked On Music
2. Life In London
3. Just Enough Money
4. Crash & Burn
5. The Pain
6. Elijah
7. Stevie
8. I Look Better From A Distance
9. Rick’s Solo (feat. Norweigan Wood)
10. Whippin’ Post
11. Snortin’ Whiskey
12. Eric’s (Short) Solo
13. Boom Boom
14. Pat’s “Swell” Solo (Vivaldi, etc.)
15. Born Under A Bad Sign
16. Inside Looking Out? (Gr Funk cvr fr PTPT?)

The crowd was totally mesmerized by the show, and chanted for more..but, alas, the night was over all too soon. There was a long, organized line for the rabid fans to have a lil' meet n' greet action with the boys...one fan was a bit TOO rabid, and several very mean-looking bouncers helped him out the front door. Barely got a chance to talk with Rich and Nancy as they didn't arrive (at least to my sight) until after the show had already started and, of course, Pat is the main focus of attention, as it should be.

It's always a pleasure to see Pat, Eric and Rick and I can't wait until the next "PTB fix".

Signing off for now...

Ginbel: TLo is Tony Lopez.

Randal thanks for the birthday wishes, today is my baby's birthday and she is 15 and standing in line for concerts like I did. Uh-oh!

Randy, according to my daughter Kristina it was defintely worth it, she got seats pretty close, however, she is almost tempted to get the GA for the floor and wait in line to try and get in front????? A band called "The Vines" are opening up for Incubus, I have only heard one song from them and I don't even know the name of it.

Time for me to go to work, see ya!

Oh Scott, have a question big debate going on here amongst the musicians, did Jan Hammer play with Hughes/Thrall at San Jose State back in the 80's? Thanks.

Thanks for the report, Carl! How cool that you got to hear a new song before it's released!

Back at the end of '79 I saw PT open for Cheap Trick in Oakland, CA. He announced that the band was not on tour, but that they did the show as a special favor to Bill Graham. They were right in the middle of recording a new album, so "here's a new one from that album about a very confused individual, it's called Snortin Whiskey, Drinkin Cocaine!"

Needless to say, it rocked...

Cheers!

Frequent lurker but first time poster. As a long time fan of PT, I had my first opportunity to see the band live in Shirley, MA last Friday night and they did not disappoint. In addition to all the PT favorites, the band treated us to the new tune, “Better From a Distance”. Pat mentioned that it was the first time the song had been performed. Fr8Train delivered some soulful vocals which were reminiscent of Warren Haynes. Other highlights included Elijah, Stevie, and a rockin’ “Inside Looking Out” from the Power Trio offering. After the show, Pat was gracious enough to stick around and sign some stuff for the patrons. It’s this kind of accessibility to his fans which makes PT and the boys such a pleasure to support. While signing some stuff for me, I was able to hook Pat up with a Polydor promo photo from the early 1980’s. He joked that he hadn’t seen the photo in quite some time. He got a real kick out of the Elvis shades and leather jacket he was wearing when the picture was taken. I’d also like to thank Eric for his hospitality and great conversation. It was so cool being able to spend some time chatting it up with him. I sat in awe as I listened to him talk shop with another drummer in the room. Although I didn’t get a chance to say hello to Rick and wish him a happy B-day, he was equally impressive all night long. All in all, it was one of those rock n’ roll experiences that I will never forget and I look forward to seeing PTB back in the Boston area again soon.

I'd love a PT shirt, but apparently no one caters to us "larger" folk...I need at LEAST a 3X or larger. I'd pay a bit extra for a "special order" next time someone's gettin' 'em printed though!

Ummm...Randitollah, "I Look Better From a Distance" was one of those old-style PT smokers, as much as I love the blues stuff, this one has a kick to it...very catchy but not "poppy". As Pat said "This one kinda grows on ya!" I agree wholeheartedly.

Rich & Nancy...hope you have a great time in NY tonight. I'll be wishin' I was there, but I'm driving to OH to visit friends and see "Smokin'" Joe Bonamassa this weekend, soooo...I won't be TOO jealous. Hopefully Rich, you'll stay sober enough to remember the show a bit better LOL!

What's cool is that they are unique and very few were printed.........you'd have a limited addition PT shirt for sure. Sorry PurpleHaze for not stocking the big ones.........I have to order shirt sizes in lots of 25 or more. We just hardly ever get a request for 3XL or bigger.......

07/29/04 Fairfax CA - 19 Broadway
07/29/04 Fremont CA - Festival of the Arts

Does anyone know the answer to my question I had for Scott?

JM I was the guy in the white shirt selling CDs and the boys were signing them. I arrived at the show just in time for the encore. Here is the scenario... the young ladies and men who worked at the venue were very young and I am sure not really in to classic rock, but.... I looked around at the staff when the band was REALLY slamming on "Inside looking out" Literally... thier mouths were hanging open... literally. I just laughed! I heard them saying stuff like"Holy SH#T!" and "What the FU^K!" What an encore!!! Wish I saw the whole show LOL! Damn NY traffic! Oh well, we hung out and talked to our friends and that is all we really needed anyway. FINALLY got to catch up with Nancy and Bert!! You guys are so cool! BBQ this summer!! A Perfect Circle slayed 'em in Seattle-Tacoma last night. My goodness, what a powerful band. Catch 'em if you can when they pull through your town.

My only issue was the venue (Tacoma Dome). A band such as this loses ALL of it's dynamics in that type of an environment. I much prefer a small 3,000 to 6,000 seat theater setting. Other than that, it was a fantastic show!

Nitro...what did you think?

Happy Easter weekend to all of you!

Happy belated birthday wishes to the Axeman Stay strong, stay healthy and thanks for continuing to provide us with, what Rockpig! and Sandy referred to as, that timeless sound that keeps us together.

Also, ya'll sure do have a way of makin' a guy feel welcome around here. Many thanks to everyone who sent their shout-outs. As a forty-year-old going on fourteen and an avid music lover, I look forward to feeding my musical obsession here on the PT message board. With that, I'd like to throw out a discussion topic. Next month, I'm going to see Blue Oyster Cult and UFO on a double bill. Does anyone have any concert memories from any old BOC show from back in the day? They were famous for their laser light shows and I was just curious if anyone had anything to share about seeing them live. If not, then as Emily Litella use to say, "nevermind".

Rock, I hitchhiked 150 miles to Stateline, Idaho in 8th grade to see a 3-day festival. BOC played the first night with Nektar and Bighorn. Allan Lanier was so blasted he nearly fell over on the keyboard! Eric looked extremely pissed off, and the band had a hell of a time keeping it together with Allan's botched playing! On the five-guitar jam, they were basically holding him up between their shoulders! The next day, the promoter split with the cash due to low ticket sales -- and quite naturally, a riot ensued! I watched some guys roll a milk truck down the hill, was issued a stolen doughnut from a guy who was passing them out, and saw a hot wired semi-truck doing brodies around the race track. It was when I was backstage looking around when I saw a guy whose head was busted open by one of the rocks people were hurling back there that I decided to leave. My brother showed up looking for me (he had arrived the morning after I got there) and we took off JUST BEFORE the state police shut the placer down! There was a column of smoke rising as we left -- quite a memorable scene for a 13-year old head like myself!

Out of time -- don't have too much, you know

see y'all

Rock Bottom - all I remember about BOC is when I was in my early teens, in the earkly seventies, seeing them at the San Jose Civic Auditorium and all five guitar players stepping up front in a lateral line at the front of the stage, making there little moves, bouncing around and whaling - It was the Cities on Flame album review. At that time five guys playing the guitar blew my mind.- Blu - Hey you guys what do you think if the School of Hard Knocks Tune - "Via Veneto" all PT on guitar? What a great display of guitar work eh?

Make sure the rider includes a bus ticket for Carl -- round trip! And a keg of Heineken. gREG, what're YOU gonna drink?

CORRECTION gREG -- it is IMPOSSIBLE to feel sorry for guys who are playing loud rock and roll, guzzling Heineken and shooting craps etc. in beautiful South Lake Tahoe!!!! If only it were so . . .

how about "The Keggers"

or

"Don't Try This at Home"

hahahahaha

I'm heading for the Northwest tomorrow through Tuesday, and Grace is coming this time. My usual "State of the Project" address to the Port Angeles locals. Everyone have a good weekend!

JM, hope yer okay

LOL! Piggy, on the Radioactive reference! I out smarted the taxman, by paying him wayyyy too much during the year. yeah... I'm real friggin' smart. Well at least I did not owe him anything. Frankly with today's interst rates letting them hold it them give it back ain't so bad.
