Thanks for the tip Randal, I just ordered mine.

Hey Blur, let us know how your in-laws made out with the storm. We`re all keeping our fingers crossed for ya!

Hey Randal, I know yer going to be at the submarine races there in Diego this weekend. If ya run into Steve David, driver of the "Oberto", ask him if it`s true that he can really break an anvil. I used to watch Steve drive every "piece-of-stuff" that he could talk his way into the seat of. Steve can talk, and his seats have improved dramaticly over the years. I can tell ya a lot of stories about Steve. The guys behaved themselves last weekend,...except for Villwock. I hope this weekend is a smasheroo for all!

Tonight I`m heading over to a local saloon, Hooligans, to catch a favorite local band, the "Helldorados". These guy do a lot of primo Johnny Winter type stuff, so it should be fun. Then tomorrow night, I`m heading over to Tobacco Road to catch "Joel DaSilva & the Side Burns",on the upstairs stage, with "Slip & the Spinouts" on the patio. Now that`s what I call a double whammy! Ya gotta support the locals!

S`later, JH

P.S. Johnny Winter is supposed to be in my neighborhood in about a month. If he does indeed show, I`ll be sure to letcha all know how he`s doing. I do know that he did have carpal tunnel surgery a couple months and has had to cancel several gigs while his fret hand heals.

I just got word that next months Johnny Winter show down my way has been cancelled due to his poor health. Oh man,...bummer news.

It was a sparse crowd last night for the local band, Helldorados, but that happens sometimes. They are indeed a talented bunch. Tonights activities at Tobacco Road are still a go and they usually have a good Saturday night crowd there.

Hey Eric, are you guys, PTBAR, gonna be doing any shows in Daytona during bike week next month? I know you guys usually pic up a coupla gigs there during that event. I do peep into the BAR website from time to time to check the schedule. I haven`t been out of my zip code in awhile. I`ll sell a kidney or something, for gas money, to make a Daytona trip to see you guys.

From the Mr. Peabody + Simon wayback machine -

Quote:

By Blur on Thursday, July 07, 2005 - 08:48 pm:

Rick told me that the ending effect on "In The End" was produced by cranking up the inputs all the way up to "10" to make it sound like an older, almost crackly effect upon playback at an adjusted volume. Don't know if that's exactly right since technology's changed a lot since I worked in radio over 10 years ago but that's the way I sort of remember it.

The outro to ITE reminds me of Eric Carmen + the Raspberries 'Wanna Hear it on the Radio'.

WHIOTR's outro features an AM radio tone, tinny, then comes back to full tone.

ITE doesn't. It stays tinny.

I wonder if the outro to ITE might somehow be based on WHIOTR?

The similarity is striking, even with ITE not returning to full tone at the end of the outro. Check it out!

And ITE still reminds me of IQ.

Hi Hammerheads, Eric,Rick, Pat and Monica!!

Had an awesome weekend -- there's alot to be said for making a living! And working for rich folk -- woo HOO! Time to start looking at Harleys again -- a NICE change from the underwater hotel days! (as in five years worth).

We're getting ready for the benefit gig this weekend. I'm stoked! Even a small crowd will be fun, and for the cause anything will be good.

I did (yes, it was a guilty pleasure).

Personally, I wouldn't have picked JD, but then, I'm not a member of INXS, so my opinion doesn't count! HA! I see potential for ego problems in the not too distant future for the band... I suppose time will tell as this all plays out.

Still, it was entertaining to follow the show, and there was definitely some talent, which is more than can be said for American Idol, which to me is unbearable.

So who's the next band to line up for this next year? Van Halen would be a good start. They could certainly use some help at this point!

Razzamanaz, Cindy! Awesome!! I would dig that show -- gonna check to see if they're coming here. All original memebers? Seems to me those guys met in architecture school like Pink Floyd and others did . . . runs in the family I guess!

Didn't watch more than one show of the INXS thingy. I liked the blonde (chick), but hated her voice. Go figure . . .

Hey Randal & gREG,

I too have tix for ZZ! Randal, they're playing at the Maryhill Winery just south of Goldendale overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. Should be cool! And gREG, you're gonna hate me for this, but I snagged row 2 seats, first two seats on the aisle of the center section. Gonna see Robert Plant this Sunday in Seattle & Porcupine Tree again in October for the second time this year. Catch 'em if you can, they are an amazing band. Now if we can get the REAL PTB here in Seattle sometime soon, my Summer concert season will be complete.

re: INXS

yeah Rockpig it was a guilty pleasure for us too. Not a huge INXS fan, but channel surfing one night I stumbled across it and got hooked. I agree, it was way way better quality than "idol".

I really liked Suzie and hoped she might make it. (wonder if that's the blonde Randal was referring to?) "Soul Life" was a great song. She's Canadian as well, and from Toronto, so being in Buffalo she's almost a neighbor! She has an amazing voice and what I really liked about her was that she didn't go overboard with the sex appeal.

But I'm happy with the JD choice. I first started watching about half way through the series and at first didn't care for him. But he really seem to learn from his mistakes and grow. I think he has a great rock-n-roll voice with some bluesy roots that seems to fit well with INXS. This was very apparent to me when he did "You can't always get what you want" and even more so on 'What you need'.

I was at LAX yesterday waiting for and watching the Jet Blue plane land. Had front row seats ta boot!

That pilot deserves a Medal Of Honor!

Amazing simply amazing. And on the day I did NOT bring my camera to work with me. GRRRRR!

Hey Steve, that tribute festival looks like a hoot! Maybe they should do one for A Day On The Green, then there could be a PTB tribute band, which you could most likely handle, of course.

I'm flying back east for the Thanksgiving holidays. I want that same Jet Blue pilot to fly the plane I'll be riding in! Magnificent job that pilot did...

Kinda quiet on the PTB tour dates...

Hey Rcokbacon --

Maryhill Museum is a GREAT spot for that show! The band is tight as ever and did some cool early tunes. You're gonna LOVE Robert Plant's show too -- The Strange Sensation are -- uh -- SENSATIONAL!

Atta boy on the skid-mark landing job. Bet that was amazing to see -- I didn't even hear about it until it was all over. Good thing, 'cause I had lots of work to do and would have been glued to the boob tube like some of you were!

Steve, that sounds like a fun show. I think MiniKISS would have to be a highlight -- wish I could check out all the bands! Our Hurricane relief gig is the weekend -- sounds like we might have to do another one for Galveston! YIKES!! Get out NOW if you're down there. Beseau, better hang onto yer hat -- Dallas is gonna get soaked too. Stock up on beer, peanuts, dry brush and candles, buddy. I know you've go teh ice cov ered.

Hey Greg, thanks for the info. Would have been cool to hear Rob do "Blood Suckers" from Demolition. I've never seen them do "Exciter". "Beyond The Realms Of Death" is always awesome live as is "Painkiller". I think they wrote that one with playing it live in mind. I absolutely can't wait. I never thought I'd get to see Rob with Priest ever again. To me (and I know this is argueable) Judas Priest is the greatest heavy metal band of all time. Simply put, on a bad night, they put on a good show. On a good night, they put on a great show, and on a great night, no one can touch them (except for P.T.). I have never been disappointed by a Judas Priest show. From an unknown land and through distant skies came a winged warrior. Nothing was sacred and no one was safe from the Hellion as it uttered it's battle cry, SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE. I now return you to your regular programming. P.T.R.O.X.X.

Great Trib show on KCAL tonight Steve!

They did a really good job. That show is kinda hoky sometimes. But tonight it was excellent!

Zepagain and Pink were both featured prominently with lots of cool footage and interviews.

Eruption and Iron Maidens sounded pretty phemoninal. I have to catch one of their shows.

Was that the Channel 9 weather guy on drums for Communication Breakdown? He did a fine job!

Did you tape that tribute band special? I'd love to see it. And I'll bet if it goes up on bittorrent, a lot of people will download it (which equals good exposure for the bands).

On a side note: Cindy mentioned a Nazareth concert. I just bought Narareth's 1977 Sight & Sound DVD (Sight & Sound was a British late night rock show similar to Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, Midnight Special, etc.). I was very excited about it because there were three or four songs off of "Hair of the Dog" which I think is one of the rockinest albums of the mid-70s.

Well... the quality is absolutely terrible. I guess the master tape suffered some wear and tear over the years or something. There's even a tape roll or two - on and official release DVD!!

Good show - but terrible quality.

Cheers,

Randy

If you're DVD isn't playing right, you might try ripping it to your harddrive with DVD Decrypter and reburning it. I know you shouldn't have to go to that kind of trouble, but there's a good chance you'll get a DVD-R that will play properly - and in the meantime you can watch that while you wait for another official copy to arrive.

The hubby, me and our youngest daughter have been in Reno since Thursday for the Harley Street Vibrations event, got back yesterday. Had a great time, a lot of beautiful Harleys, including our Fatboy! Saw ZZTop Saturday night and I must say, these guys are just too much fun, the place was sold out (at the Hilton outdoor stage) and the crowd was loving them - all the old classic ZZTop songs!

I could totally see Pat playing at a venue like this and this type of crowd loving him!

Thanks Ed, yeah, we got some good airtime on that show! Randy, if I get a copy on DVD, I'll get one out to you, no prob. We're working on it.

I'm playing in a new cover band, "That 70's Rock Show," which will be playing at 14 Below in Santa Monica for the next 4 Thursdays, starting this week. The drummer & bass player from The Atomic Punks are also in it. I'm pushing for Boom Boom & Snortin Whisky in the set!

The Rust Festival was pretty cool. All I can say about Mini Kiss is THEY DON'T PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS! It's all mimed along to tracks, the songs even fade out! Hmmm...

Hope my TnA DVD shows up today!

Cheers,
Steve

Come on Steve! Don't you know that live fadeouts are the new rage in the industry? You have to be unbelievably talented to pull it off. When done correctly it makes that volume swell solo that PT has mastered look like a beginner is playing it!

Hey Ed,

We had rehearsal last night, and no PT this week. Snortin Whisky lost on a technicality, it actually came out in '80! And Boom Boom didn't make the cut this time. But we do have some cool stuff, like R&R Hoochie Coo, We're An American Band, Free Ride, stuff like that. And NO FADE OUTS! Well, maybe me after the show, like gREG!

No TnA DVD yet...

Cheers!

The following update has been posted in the Forum section of the MEGADETH website (forums.megadeth.com) by guitarist Glen Drover (EIDOLON):

"Hello. I am really getting excited about these South American shows, as I am hearing from so many people how crazy the crowds are, etc. I have had a nice break here at home, spending quality time with my family, and now I am well rested and ready to go. I do look foreward to seeing all of you.

It looks like we will have a few days off in Puerto Rico before the show, so you know what that means - LETS HIT THE BEACH!!!!! I have my suntan oil packed and ready to go - I am not sure how close the beach is to our hotel, but you know it wont take me long to find out. I had better bring all of my Pat Travers 8-tracks with me, as there may be a chance that this beach may have an 8-track player, and you know that I like to be prepared for things like that.

See you soon, Glen."

Since i can't get Pat to come back to AZ, I'v started my own tribute band. Its called "Snortin' Radioactive La La." We're gonna do about 15/16 PTB favs. We have a small show planned with a few theatrics: such as I ask a member of the audiance to come on stage w/ us, which they do w/ great enthusiasm. We then blind fold him, and I walk up to him and kick him right in the balls. I then lean over the microphone and say, "Ladies and gentleman, this is PT Nuts!" Crowd loves it.

Greetings one and all. I just viewed my copy of TNA Live At HOB. I really liked it except for a few production flaws. I'm not really sure how to describe it but the first three songs just didn't look right. Someone previously posted about this. At times it reminded me of some of the late 70's Rainbow videos. Even after they got things set, some of the camera shots made the band look like they were playing at different places and not on the same stage, like they were using different filter effects for each band member. Aside from these minor flaws, the disc is awesome. I know it was supposed to showcase all three band mates, but I really do believe Pat got the most attention. Which brings me to a question. I've seen Pat up close many many times and have seen the scar on his chin, but I never realized how big and pronounced it is until I watched the interview portion. Does anyone know how he got that scar? There's no way he got that from shaving. Lastly, who's going start production on the P.T. manacles? Using a monocle is so Pat. Anyone know about the scar?

i heard Pat got that from miscued pyrotechnics at a show once. I don't recall the full details.

Love the DVD especially after having seen the lineup in Germany. It was the last show with TM. They went all out that night, quite a party. So the dvd is a good memeory.

Even bigger than the scar on PT's chin was that zip on the side of his nose during the interview section of the DVD! It reminded me of every high school kid's worst fears at prom or picture taking day. Couldn't stop laughing about that. But boy do they jam on that DVD. I can only wonder how much tighter they were in Europe after playing together for a while. I believe the DVD was filmed on their first, second or third night of the tour?

I seem to remember hearing that PT got the scar from a car accident, but can't confirm that. Maybe PT can answer it for us? Hey Pat, while you're at it, could you tell us the funny story you were gonna tell us about Andy MacKay? It was around the time that Dimebag was shot and Jakson Spires & Rod Price died, so it was a bit of a dark time, so we never got the story. Besides, we'd love to hear from you around here again. Same goes for Eric & Rick. We miss you guys around here!

And as always...PTB is King!

Damn, I didn't notice the zit. Now I'm curious. I'm gonna have to go back and watch the interview, which I thought was pretty good. I liked Pat's response when they asked which one of the two is more prompt. "I show up when I'm suppose to be here" or something to that effect from Pat. Thanks for the info. Like I said, I've seen it before, but never that pronounced. I'm off to the ballpark. For the first time in 12 years, my Brewers have a chance of finishing above .500 and have a starting pitcher who just might win 20 games.

Got my TnA DVD yesterday, & watched the concert last night. Great stuff! The cameras seem to be of different quality, I think that's the weird stuff that people were talking about. But it didn't really detract from the show, which I though was great. I love Pat's guitar effect on Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, that makes it like an alien voice or something!

hahahahaha

Saw PTB open for Rainbow in '80, but I was slightly lit so I don't recall seeing Richie Hackmore having a tizzy -- probably a good thing.

The hurricane relief show, "Rockin' for Relief" was a success! Lots of people showed up and we raised alot of money for the hurricane victims. STEHM appeared on our first concert t-shirt! How cool! We got an audio DVD, and I'm supposed to go pick up the video DVD today. We're hoping to use it to book future gigs, but the mix was crappy so we'll have to see if we can use it or if we have to re-record. Tom (guitar) and I are going to Carvin this afternoon to buy a new 12-channel powered head, as my 8-channel is loaded up and we need more inputs. He knows a guy there so we're supposed to get a good deal . . . we'll see. I should probably call Eric to see what kind of deal he can get from Sam Ash.

Big Toe played the gig too. The bass player has no arms and plays with his feet. I heck you not! He played like gREG (300 lbs.) makes sweet love on stage! Awesome! hahahahaha Our singer used to be his guitarist, so there was a little drama at first, but everyone was cool and the gig was a good time. Not bad for a bunch of hacks! LOL Oh yeah -- we didn't fade out either!

Okay, in 24 hours I'm off to Vegas. My eldest son Jayson turned 21 Monday, so we're gonna whoop it up. If we see gREG (300 lbs.) on the corner in pink tights and a green tutu, or making sweet love on stage for that matter, we're just gonna keep RIGHT ON rolling . . .

I saw Rainbow warm up for Blue Oyster Cult in 1980. Ritchie left the stage toward the end of the show and played the last two songs while sitting on an equipment box backstage. The rest of the band was just sort of looking at each other with that "Do you know WTF is goin' on? I don't know WTF is goin' on" look.

I just happened to be sitting off to the side of the arena at just the right height and angle that I could see Ritchie backstage during all this. 99% of the other concert goers didn't know what the hell the going on.
